  1. What do you get for premium? Is it worth it or is it basically just a donation to help keep the board going? The list of the benefits of premium are in this thread: viewtopic.php?t=14105 I think most premium users think of it as both-there are some nice benefits, and it's also a way to help Tim out in helping him to defray his personal costs in keeping the board going.
  2. Cotts will be the same thing that Gallagher just was-the long man out of the pen. He'll get in if they need someone to eat some innings if a starter goes out early. Cotts is the best option for this type of role-the team is not hurting his development by putting him there, and he is stretched out already to be able to handle the role. They are going to call up a 12th pitcher no matter what-that's the only sure thing right now.
  3. No Pie booo. Although I understand him getting an off day as he has been in there every day basically since the call up. Yeah, I just wish Lou could have waited a day for that. If he was going to give him a day off anyway, he should have done it with the left-hander on the mound tomorrow night.
  4. Absolutely not. The Cubs really don't need Gagne-he would be nice, but he's not necessary. If you trade Marshall, you've just made a small improvement to your bullpen and gotten rid of your only good 5th starter option. Gagne only has 12 teams that he can be traded to-I'm not sure that the Cubs are on that list. If this is true (that Jones is going to get traded by tomorrow for a pitcher), my guess is that Jones is traded for a decent middle reliever, which would be just fine.
  5. Wow-I'm not nearly as optimistic as you. I see a 7-6 season on the horizon. I wouldn't be shocked by 8-5, but 9-4 would be very surprising to me. It is a very young team that really doesn't have much to fall back on. Their offense mostly moved on, and their defense really needs to improve. I'm confident that both the offense and defense will get better, but the problem is that ND's tough games are at the front of the schedule when the team has not had time to gel yet. The future is bright, but I just don't see great hope for this year.
  6. they showed on BBTN CPatt was robbed of a near GS, although I think it would have bounced off the yellow line if not caught. I really wonder how much time has been spent on this board ridiculing the ex-Cubs playing in this game. We have Patterson, Bynum, Paul Bako, Augie Ojeda, and Juan Cruz. That's quite a group.
  7. SD and Seattle. Can look at his game log here: http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/6612 OK, now I remember the Seattle game...I remember being pissed that he was in for so long. LOOGY or not issue aside, he shouldn't be out there for more than an inning most of the time. On the upside, he's continuing to strikeout guys and his walks are way down, especially if you look at that long outing as an exception. I still think he's doing a LOT better now and I really don't worry seeing him come out. He's definitely not deserving of still being lumped in with Eyre. Eyre has been a lot better than Ohman in June. They are both doing better lately, and they both are still our most questionable relievers (soon to be our 2nd and 3rd most questionable when somebody comes up from the minord on Monday).
  8. Also, Pie's numbers would look better if they sat him down against a few more left-handers: Against RHP: .269/.330/462 (93 AB's) Against LHP: .129/.129/.129 (31 AB's) There's no need to acquire another player for CF-if the Cubs really want to play for this year, they just need to platoon him a little more.
  9. I just checked in on the Baltimore-Arizona game. Patterson is 1 for 3 Freddie Bynum is 1 for 2 with a 2 run HR
  10. Games Jacque has started: 25-25 (.500) Games Jacque has not stated: 9-14 (.391) So his Neifi index would be -.109
  11. So Floyd has an average of .166 and thats good, but Lee has an avg of .285 and thats bad? I go by their OPS numbers when assigning good/bad. Floyd has an .833 against Contreras, Lee has a .714. Besides, Lee spends so many good days in the good category that he can afford to spend one day in the bad one :D.
  12. The Cubs against Contreras are interesting: The Good: Ramirez is 3 of 7 with 3 HR and 1 BB Floyd is 1 for 6 with 1 HR Soriano is 2 for 4 with 2 HR The Bad: Jones is 2 for 11 with 1 BB Lee is 2 for 7 with 1 2B Izturis is 0 for 6 DeRosa is 0 for 3 Nobody on the White Sox has more than 3 at-bats against Marshall.
  13. Koyie Hill had to come in the ballgame in the 9th anyway. If Jones had pinch-run, then Hill would have had to come in for him and the bench would have been completely emptied. If Hill didn't need to come in the game, Jones would have probably been the pinch-runner chosen.
  14. I had visions of Terry Mulholland in Houston at the Astrodome in extra innings going through my head.
  15. 2nd transaction: Drop Miguel Tejada, Add Jimmy Rollins
  16. I'm here, just not much to post about right now. I think it will get more exciting once both teams have to go to the bullpen.
  17. Fontenot needs to be careful about that tag-the ball was there when the runner was about 10 feet away, but he almost slid under Fontenot's tag anyway.
  18. Nothing anybody could do on that steal-Podsednik stole that one off of Hill.
  19. Well, at least the good news is that what was seemed as very uncertain just a couple weeks ago is becoming increasingly likely-Jacque Jones will very likely not be a Cub after the deadline. If they get out without paying any of his contract (unlikely) his total numbers probably exceeded what the Cubs paid him over the last year and a half (his numbers last year were a bargain to his salary-he should have earned about 8 or 9 million last year compared to other right fielders. This year he should have earned 0. The Cubs have paid him I think something like 7 or 8 million so far on his contract).
  20. I have absolutely no idea how Maroth had the ERA he did last year. Look at the peripherals of Maroth and Marquis last year: Maroth-1.491 WHIP, 4.02 K/9, 2.68 BB/9, 1.84 HR/9, .295/.346/.521 Marquis-1.523 WHIP, 4.46 K/9, 3.47 BB/9, 1.62 HR/9, .289/.359/.509 So Marquis's peripherals may have been slightly worse-yet Maroth ended up with a 4.19 and Marquis had the 6.02, which is a lot more difference then should have been. Now compare it to Maroth this year: 1.66 WHIP, 3.21 K/9, 3.79 BB/9, 1.72 HR/9, .319/.384/.563 So Maroth has a 5.06 ERA this year, but every peripheral is worse than last year for Marquis. I don't think Maroth is any better than Marquis whatsoever, and is probably a little worse at this point.
  21. Close-he still has the first pitch swinging with the bases loaded thing going for him, but it's a single and an RBI for him in the first.
  22. Daisuke is such a roller coaster-he has walked the bases loaded to start the game in the SD-Boston game. Also, Boston is 1/1 in SB so far tonight. Cameron is up, then Barrett.
  23. First, love the Major League reference. Second, I wish Ramirez could play third tomorrow, although I understand completely why they have him at DH. Here's why: The good: Ward is 9 for 24 with 1 2B, 3 HR, and 1 BB Lee is 15 for 41 with 5 2B, 3 HR, and 2 BB Ramirez is 7 for 21 with 2 2B, 1 3B, 1 HR, and 1 BB DeRosa is 6 for 19 with 1 2B, 1 HR, and 3 BB Izturis is 5 for 16 with 2 2B and 1 BB The Bad: Floyd is 9 of 34 with 2 2B and 2 BB Jacque is 3 for 15 with 1 HR Soriano is 1 for 6 The only other guy who could be in the lineup who has an at bat against Vasquez-Theriot is 1 for 3 On the other side, nobody has more than 3 AB's. The only significant person is: Iguchi-3/3 with 2 HR
  24. Umm because he sucks? Maybe Lou is playing Theriot because hes younger and feels that maybe Theriot could get better, where as we/he knows what he has in Izturis. Is Theriot younger? I thought both were 27. Izturis does undeniably suck at this point. If they could ship him out for a minor league scrub, I'd probably do it just to get rid of his salary and open up roster space. Does he have another year on his contract, and is it a team option? There's a team option for 2008.
