  1. I remember in Milwaukee last year there was a ball in foul territory in right field that Jacque picked up and threw a perfect strike to the plate to nail the runner. It was an amazing throw-the next day, he had 2 throws home in the first inning-one was a 5 bouncer and the other one went over the catcher's head.
  2. They already did that part hours ago. Petrick is probably already in Chicago ready to pitch. If the Jones trade hadn't gone through, they would have sent somebody down instead. It sounded earlier like Dempster was going on the DL to make room for Petrick. I don't think the organization has decided if they should DL Dempster or not. Otherwise, they would have done it, and the story would be up already.

  4. Because they got two players AND money and we got an A ball player. In all honesty, we probably did get the worst end of the deal, but Its really worth it in the end. but Rotoworld's details are sketchy. They don't say 2 for 1 or how much money is moving. Still, it amounts to getting nothing for nothing. It's not like playing in the vast Dolphin Stadium will help Jock's power outage The Marlins are short on outfielders unlike the Cubs. They really have nothing to lose by playing him and plenty to gain. It's like if a SS who had recent success but had fallen off the table this year got traded to the Cubs-at worst it's an even trade for them. This is a great example of a win-win deal for both squads.
  5. 1 million this year, or total? If it's total, this is a good deal.
  6. Yeah-the Marlins board says it's not him. Apparently he only throws about 87 anyway. They claim it's a pitcher on that roster other than him and one other guy (who's name escapes me right now).
  7. The Marlins site posted this a few minutes ago-it at least comes from a newspaper, although it doesn't have any more info: http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/sfl-0626marlins,0,5116352.story?coll=sfla-sports-front
  8. If it were just on this board, maybe. However there seems to be at least 1 person (on the Marlins board) who knows exactly who the prospect the Marlins have traded, and at least 1 more player who heard news of the trade. So I will continue to believe this right now-there's just too many posters involved for it to likely be an elaborate hoax.
  9. My guess is the Cubs picked up this year's salary and half of next years, and this single A pitcher will be a decent prospect-not somebody who has no chance at the majors, but not anyone who is a top prospect or anything. Those are all just guesses however.
  10. Not that I've heard. They have a little over 4 hours now to keep working the trade lines and get that done, or go to their backup plan and send somebody down.
  11. Haha...he's 23 man...but the poster on ITI said it's "per two sources in the farm system" so take it for what it's worth. I will go with it for now, because this is a fairly reliable poster over there. You keep your facts away from my joke, you hear? If true, it shows what the Cubs think of Pignatiello. I agree that it shows something about Pignatiello (although I think the Gallagher move showed more about that) but part of the reason that Pignatiello might have been passed up was that he pitched last night. The Cubs need somebody who can possibly pitch multiple innings tonight, and Petrick hasn't pitched since Saturday night.
  12. Petrick huh? A pitcher who's done really well in relief, has been a starter so he's shown he can handle high pitch counts, and has gone more than an inning in 7 out of his last 10 outings. This seems like a very good choice for a long reliever to me (and maybe short reliever until Dempster gets back).
  13. That's funny. I do the same stuff. I have conversations in my head to prepare myself for people I know I'm going to see. I think I'm half nuts. If this thread points out that a lot of people do this, it will take a huuuuge load off my mind. guilty Same here-I always thought I was crazy as well.
  14. I'll go ahead and guess that tonight is the night for Fontenot to get his first ML start at SS, and the lineup will be: Soriano Fontenot Lee Ramirez Floyd DeRosa Bowen Pie Lilly That's just a guess though, and I think most people have found that it's really hard to guess Lou's exact lineup.
  15. One thing this year's Cubs team has done-it has kept all of us interested. From the surprise Dempster to the rotation/not to the rotation debacle to the surprise Gallagher callup to the Barrett trade and now this 2 day long Jones saga. I guess we just have to keep riding the roller coaster, because I don't see the craziness ending anytime soon (this one might end, but I'm sure it will be quickly replaced).
  16. Seeing Lugo's name on the list made me think-for all the criticism Hendry takes over the roster (and most of it he deserves, don't get me wrong) he at least picked most of the right players this offseason. I can't even imagine how bad this Cubs team would be if they had picked up 3 or 4 of the Lugo/J.D. Drew/Schmidt/Padilla combination like many people wanted him to.
  17. Something is going to happen soon because Hendry also said that Theriot will not be sent down. Jones' time may be really limited. Yup-with Lou's insistence that Pie will not be sent down, that only leaves Pagan and Jones, and with his versatility I'm sure management doesn't want to see Pagan down for 10 days at least.
  18. Hendry is running this team. I'll believe he lands a pitcher when I see it. Pretty sure the Cubs are supposedly switching to 12 pitchers sometime this week, as early as today. Plus, elsewhere on the board it was just reported that Hendry was just on the radio saying that they were going to bring in another pitcher before tonight's game.
  19. It seems like the 2007 White Sox have jumped into the 2006 Cubs team level. I wouldn't call the 05 Cubs an embarrassment, they were just decidedly mediocre.
  20. Howry and Eyre are probably both pretty close to unavailable for this one-only in emergencies. So that will leave Marmol, Wuertz, Ohman, and whoever the new pitcher is for the bullpen tonight.
  21. Well, the news that Fontenot is practicing at SS is a little bit of a welcome surprise.
  22. LOL, I was beat badly so I'll just edit and comment here. No worries about Pie-Lou just said that he was given a couple days off when he was young to clear his head and relax and it really helped him out, and he wanted to do the same for Pie. Otherwise, the lineup is as good as it can be against a left-hander right now.
  23. Yea, it was reported on THe Score that Jock is in uniform tonight. Also, we're guessing that maybe Lou is going to start Fontenot at Short tonight and let DeRosa play second, thus the "surprise" Well, Paul Sullivan reported that DeRosa would start in RF tonight, so no surprise tonight. However, he did say that Fontenot might play at SS in some future games with DeRosa playing 2nd.
  24. At this point, that makes sense. If they can't get the other player in to town before the game, then they at least have Jones available tonight. Hopefully a deal gets done in the morning.
  25. Technically, he has been batting 8th the last few games, but I understand your point. He will probably bat 7th now that the team is back in an NL park unless someone other than Theriot or Izturis is starting at SS.
