  1. oh its not a rumor right now. its just my plan. its something that *could* progress towards if we trade prior to the padres. so maybe we should pray for that....
  2. Greeene = Tejada w/ better defense. would you trade pie for tejada straight up? of course....why not khalil.
  3. no that wasnt it. it was before the ws. it may have been the other way around, but i know that towers has a lot of interest in pie. something could be worked out if we made it a priority. if pie doesnt work pie + prior probably would. regardless its a very realistic option, although jh wont go down that path.
  4. im pretty sure hes had four great seasons. dumbass writer go to hell.
  5. no but i like jeremy affeldt. i dont really consider him just another guy who throws with his left hand
  6. The Cubs nixed a Khalil Greene deal at the trade deadline, unfortunately. I believe it was Greene for Pie straight up, would have been a great move. Well first things first, I wouldn't have traded Will Ohman. Lefties hit .236 against him last year. The smart GMs in the league traded for him, unfortunately. Jim Hendry's moves already cripple my plan to a certain extent. I don't think Veal or Cotts do much. I'd probably try to look at the options. Jeremy Affeldt is probably the number one guy on my list there. I like Affy a lot. I'd probably try to start him though...Marshalls big duece murders lefties. Why not?
  7. I would be ecstatic if Pie became as good as Brett Butler.
  8. All that excitement last night turns out to be for nothing. We need some Cubs' news already. We're all going crazy. Its cautiously optimistic news. I didn't really expect a deal to get done today, but its good to see that there is something to this rumor and its no where near dead. Maybe Hendry made a decent offer for Tejada and Roberts and the O's are going to look around and see if they can get a better one. I doubt it. The Orioles had a lot interest from smart(er) GMs for Tejada and Bedard, so they were interested in that more than the Cubs pathetic trade idea for Brian Roberts. I think I should kidnap JH and impersonate him for the offseason. With Bradley out I'll grab Greene, Fukudome and Clement or Lieber, hoping one of them with Prior would stick, call that idea the Walt Jocketty plan. The Cubs would look a little something like this: vs tough righties 1. Kenny Lofton, CF 2. Kosuke Fukudome, RF 3. Derrek Lee, 1B 4. Aramis Ramirez. 3B 5. Alfonso Soriano, LF 6. Khalil Greene, SS 7. Mark DeRosa, 2B 8. Geovany Soto, C vs lefties and crappy righties 1. Alfonso Soriano, LF 2. Kosuke Fukudome, CF 3. Derrek Lee, 1B 4. Aramis Ramirez, 3B 5. Khalil Greene, SS 6. Matt Murton, RF 7. Mark DeRosa, 2B 8. Geovany Soto, C Rotation: 1. Carlos Zambrano 2. Rich Hill 3. Ted Lilly 4. Jason Marquis 5. Mark Prior/Jon Lieber/Matt Clement/Sean Marshall Bullpen RHP - Ryan Dempster RHP - Carlos Marmol RHP - Michael Wuertz RHP - Kerry Wood LHP - Scott Eyre LHP - Neal Cotts/Donald Veal I'd go to war with that any time of the year. The offense would score roughly 850 runs and the pitching staff would allow roughly 700. That's a 95 win team. Note: I estimated runs scored, it could be more.
  9. Technically it's a week less than four months, but who's counting?
  10. i didnt say anything about him being as good as matsui i just said in japan he was matsui minus x, so in the us he should be matsui minus x.
  11. The Padres have been enamored with Pie for awhile now. I don't think they would ask for more than Pie. In fact wasn't it the Cubs who turned down the Pie for Greene trade in July? I've always thought if we were going to trade Prior to the Padres, we might as well somehow get Khalil for him + someone if need be. Regardless, he's a great opportunity. No, I just don't like sweets.
  12. because he hit nearly as well as him in japan? didn't i just go over all of this stuff in the fukudome thread a few weeks ago? (probably, and I believe it was directed at you there too)
  13. im not going to let some pos cfer get in the way of this trade. MILTON BRADLEY IS BETTER THAN ALFONSO SORIANO AND KOSUKE FUKUDOME MUCH LESS FELIX CRAPIE 4th of? lmao son. lmao.
  14. in statistics. Khalil Greene is an extreme flyball hitter. In fact, last season he was in the 91st percentile in batted ball flyball percentage. Khalil Greene plays half of his games in Petco Park. Petco is the worst park for a flyball hitter to play in. Wrigley Field, on the other hand, is one of the better ones. Khalil Greene's splits each season bear the effect of Petco on his production. Petco .152/.176/.182/.358 - 2003 .241/.345/.338/.683 - 2004 .256/.285/.399/.684 - 2005 .210/.282/.346/.628 - 2006 .216/.258/.412/.670 - 2007 Everywhere else .281/.361/.625/.986 - 2003 .301/.353/.543/.896 - 2004 .244/.308/.465/.773 - 2005 .280/.356/.507/.863 - 2006 .288/.322/.519/.840 - 2007 Park effects do NOT affect all hitters the same. Khalil Greene is the WORST player for the Padres. He's a terrible fit for them. Once Khalil is saved from baseball yellowstone hes going to breakout into the player he was destined to become. If he were on the Cubs next season you should expect a line of .275/.330/.500/.830 at the minimum. So yeah, I don't even need to mention he plays shortstop, or the fact that he's a tremendous defensive player at shortstop. Or the fact that we can sign two CFers (Fukudome, Bradley) relatively easily and have another one a year or two away in the minors (Colvin) and that we have no other options internally at SS (Cedeno does not count with our regime) and externally this is are only bet and he's probably a better player on the Cubs than Miguel Tejada. Yes. Khalil Greene would be flat out better than Miguel Tejada, trade parts aside. I don't even have to mention that I am down on Felix Pie. Would you trade Pie for Tejada straight up? Of course. Doing Pie for Greene straight up should be a no-brainer too. It's too bad I'm the only one here who sees this. Khalil Greene is the PERFECT trade for our offseason "Big Acquisition" http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f189/kctigers23/StampofApprovalSmall.png I hope you all have seen the light on Greene.
  15. that isnt true. ichiro is the prototypical japanese hitter.
  16. Khalil Greene was Neifi Perez + HR's last year. EDIT: Oh, and About 80 more K's i don't think there's much wrong with having a shortstop who plays great defense and hits homeruns, even with a low obp. I'm not taking anything away from his SS defense, it's great don't get me wrong, but Greene never hit more than 20HR in any season, MLB or MiLB till this year. I'm sure if he weren't in SD he'd have had a dozen more HR and that's great and all but that OBP really hurts. He had 44 doubles, 3 triples, and 27HR and still managed to have an OPS+ of exactly 100, for a .759OPS. I'll take that at the bottom of the order, and at a cheaper price, in a heartbeat, but my befuddlement comes in why Pie is only worth Greene when Pie can develop into an above average offensive player (and everyone seems to think so, scouts and analysts included), while Khalil Greene is barely making the league average. dont even bring statistics into this discussion.
  17. I was under the impression Soriano spoke some Japanese... he did spend some time over there, after all. That is what I was thinking. Derrek Lee also probably picked some of it up from his dad.
  18. dont talk to me like i dont know anything. i know exactly what greene is, was, and will probably be. and all of those are better than pie. i follow the minors and draft as much as anybody on this board and i can tell how much most posters overrate their prospects way tooo much. the pie and gallagher love here is nearly indentical to nyy love for melky cabrera. only you guys cant see it.
  19. gallagher is also spare parts. you can find guys like gallagher growing on trees.
  20. alternatively you can say we don't need a SS and get a real back of the rotation guy instead. That is trade the Pie, Marshall, Murton and insert whoever they want from our system guy for Mr. Lincecum.
