  1. Z's slider ain't sinkin' so much so far.
  2. Probably his Pirates helmet and he wanted to keep it.. thus he had it re-painted... (Just a guess?) The C on the Cubs helmet isnt painted on, its actually applied on seperately. Yea, I'm pretty sure it's just a sticker... (or something like that) So he probably kept his Pirates helmet, had it painted blue/red, and hasnt gotten the sticker yet? Possibly. It's a felt-like sticker.
  3. CSN had 0-1 when it was 1-1. Len hesitated a bit and started to say the wrong count, but he caught himself.
  4. Do new players not get to wear the "C" on their batting helmet?
  5. I'm pretty sure I read that Haines' best pitch is a "plus-plus" change.
  6. Not that Brownlie should be starting, but it's about time they get a look at Valdes out of the 'pen. Speaking of which, when did they change the spelling from "Valdez" to "Valdes?"
  7. But there's no telling what he tested positive for. If all MLB is saying is that he violated their drug policy, we don't know if he actually took hard steroids (which is exactly what the league wants).
  8. If enough people complain, I can recapture it later. I taped the whole two hours b/c my original recording of Ryno's speech got cut off.
  9. Already did. It's not a high quality capture, though. About 13 mb and I'm pretty sure I didn't use any non-standard video codec for compression, so it should be good. http://www.jonmdavis.net/vanceespn.avi EDIT: Well, apparently I did use divx, so you'll need that codec.
  10. If true, it's hard not to assume that a lot of this was just for him to clear his head and not mostly to rework his swing.
  11. A two-out, three-run HR to break it open, too. Nice game by Weber.
  12. Coach- What was it like for you personally when you told Murton and Greenberg that they were being called up? Since you can only reward your players so much, was it a big moment for the rest of the team to see two well-deserving guys get the ultimate reward? Did you get a similar sense when Nomar was with the team? Also, how much fun did you have in Detroit last month with some of the top prospects in the country and living greats of the game? Lastly, much has been made of the post-season success of players like Felix Pie. What, if any, importance does winning league championships in the minors have for top prospects?
  13. Well, that's an angle I never looked at before. Yeah. His weight/work ethic has been discussed a lot since that AP article was published, but I don't recall anyone coming up with that as part of the reason. Interesting. As always, keep up the great work, Bruce!
  14. The money the Cubs get from putting the games on CSNC (which goes towards the payroll) makes it well worth it.
  15. And then he later turned down a trade to the Braves.
  16. Welcome to the board. There's a thread in the minor league forum about his injury (should still be on the front page). As of a few days ago, he's still at least a week away.
  17. Mr. O'Malley- What did you get out of your return to AAA earlier this year? Were you able to learn a little more by facing some more advanced hitters or was it mostly a personal test for you? What is it like to work with a new pitching coach in the middle of the season? Were there any noticeable differences between what coach Dunn suggested with you and coach Kranitz or was it a smooth transition? Thanks!
  18. Mr. McGehee- I read in the Sun that you talked with Nomar for about 5 minutes about hitting because you think he does many of the things that you do at the plate. What exactly were you referring to? And what did you learn from Nomar? As a young guy, what is it like to be able to watch big leaguers in person or on WGN? Is it more just motivation and entertainment or can doing that really make an impact on your game? Thanks and keep up the great work!
  19. Haha. I'd love to see a pic of it if you could get one.
  20. On Tuesdays fans can get two tickets for the price of one. Ron said on the broadcast that there will be no "Two for Tuesday" on ticket sales, just on food and drinks. Hmmm..I got nothing to do this week. How far is Jackson, TN from Chicago? Already looked into it. 8 hours is a tad much for me.
  21. Yep, I think that will be the outfield. Some people really undervalue defense. Cub pitching is not that good. Murton & Hairston may be the odd men out. If that's the case, then it means Murton goes down for Patterson, which I don't like. Of course, they could always get rid of the redundant reliever, and keep Hairston as a utility guy. But I doubt we see them do that this late in the season. I don't see the Cubs bringing Patterson back up before September. They know it'll take him some time and don't seem to be in much of a rush.
  22. I was very pleased when I heard this trade (well, once "future considerations" became Gerut). It would have been unwise for Hendry to give up some very good prospects for a team that's only a game over .500 and yet he traded a guy with little value to the team for someone who does fill a hole. If Nomar, Wood, and Williamson are going to have the kind of impact that we're hoping for, replacing Hollandsworth with Lawton can be a significant move. If they don't, the team probably wasn't going to be doing much anyways and you lose just a few million dollars.
  23. That was painful and yet not surprising.
  24. Will reverse psychology work? I'm glad Dusty isn't giving Lee a day off.
