  1. He's relying too much on the fastball right now. That's hurting his PC.
  2. Is that Hill's slider? That's a nice little pitch.
  3. Nothing but fastballs so far. Good location, sitting 91-92. Oh, and that's a pathetic, pathetic lineup.
  4. Cruz has a low batting average and high IsoP. He's not a Hendry guy.
  5. It's not like he's going to pitch before being sent back down in a couple of days.
  6. What's the status on his knee?
  7. Omar Vizquel is Izturis's #1 comp in PECOTA, with a score of 53, which means at his age, he looks a lot like Vizquel did at the same age. Izturis's #2 comp is Cristian Guzman, though, with the same score of 53. I hope he progresses like Vizquel in the near future, but I think it's more likely we see the second coming of Cristian Guzman. I wonder how that would compare with Ozzie Smith? Izturis has comparable (mostly better) numbers to (than) Ozzie over his first six seasons. Aside from stolen bases, Izturis stacks up well with one of the greats at SS. Cesar's career 69 OPS+ is considerably worse than Ozzie's 87. AHEM... I said FIRST SIX YEARS. You cannot compare a career to a player who hasn't entered their prime yet.... that's not even close to fair. FIRST SIX YEARS... Izturis does compare. Cesar has shown an ability to get near that level only once in his career so far (88). Ozzie at least broke 80 three times in those first six seasons. But the point is that being comparable offensively to Ozzie isn't a good thing, especially in those first six seasons of his.

This caused me to look at Ozzie Smith's career numbers: what in God's name is he doing in the Hall of Fame? He's just about an average player. I didn't realize backflips were so integral to the voting process. First ballot! But it's not just backflips. If you can make great plays and be nice to the media, suckage with the bat will be overlooked by the media.

  10. Sure hope this works out:
  11. That's roughly where he should be, although 96 might be a little high. I seem to recall him topping out around 94 or 95, but sitting mostly in the 92-94 range. Glad he looked good.
  12. 94-96? That's great. It's been a while since there's been a velocity report.
  13. Fitz had like 30 seconds in the booth. I hate this team.
  14. Yes, but at least Izturis is 25-30 points better OBP, more if he can come back to the form he was in before the injury. He was still quite bad in his career year. If Hendry is thinking of keeping Izturis, Cedeno, and Neifi around for the middle infield next year, it might be one of the worst middle infields in club history.
  15. He's having the 14th best season of all RF's in baseball. That's in the top half, but just barely. I'd be happy with his production if he were moved to CF (the position he played in the minors before moving to RF because of Torii Hunter), but the Cubs don't think outside the box. Jacque has outperformed my expectations. The 14th best RF is still an average RF. That does qualify as a major league hitter though. I should have said an above average hitter. He's slugging near a career high and has only been this high once in his entire career. I'd imagine it'll continue to drop.
  16. No OBP and no power sounds a lot like Izturis.
  17. At least Jim has learned that they need to "catch the ball better."
  18. Hahaha. Hendry cracks me up. The move was a "head start on what we're planning on doing next year so this doesn't happen again."
  19. Nearly forgot that Fitz is singing tonight. Bah. I'll have to watch...
  20. The minor leaguers have to step things up if they hope to get traded in the offseason.
  21. OH. EM. GEE. ](*,) Psht, Izturis has already graduated. Prospects are just guys who haven't graduated. It's a shame that Maddux will never be the beneficiary of Izturis' fantastic defense...
  22. I don't think there's anyway he's an "A". He may even be a borderline "B". IIRC, he was a Class "C" FA after the 2004 season. I wonder if that's due to playing time. His rate numbers certainly rank well with 2b-men. And Elias doesn't consider defense when doing the rankings. This is the scenario. Walker is bats well enough to be an "A", but the Neifi love diminished his playing time enough so that he became a borderline "B"/"C". ESPN.com's player rankings seem to think Todd Walker no longer exists for some reason, but I'd imagine that's the case. I think he's listed as a 1b on espn Ah. Well, that doesn't help me, especially since he wasn't listed as a 2B for last season.
  23. Ozzie Smith really needs to come out of retirement. He'd get a 3/27 deal from Hendry easily.
