  1. A little revisionist history you got going here?
  2. LOL what was Peppers thinking?
  3. That was only for the NFC Championship game. This is only week 3. No need for it right now.
  4. Air Force to the Big East will be a new level of absurdity.
  5. So Mayweather is angry at HBO because he agreed to a below-market contract? He has nobody to blame but himself.
  6. So the Big East and the Big 12 are talking merger.
  7. I still think it's all being driven by football media revenue. I don't know how the teams could come up with their own tourney and keep all these other schools out. It's not all about revenue. People here laughed at the idea of the Big Ten adding Iowa St or Kansas, but if there are three other 16 team conferences, do you really think that the Big Ten would keep themselves at 14, even if there is no team they could add that increases their per-member revenue? No, they would want to grow to 16 as well and exert just as much influence over the NCAA as the other 3 superconferences. Four superconferences would have tremendous influence over the NCAA and demand larger shares of the NCAA pie.
  8. It is a real possibility. Think about it, you have the 64 biggest and most influential athletic programs in the country spread evenly among 4 superconferences. It is not outside the realm of possibility that they secede from the NCAA and form their own association.
  9. Temple is an NBA mill? Not really, but they produce more basketball players than they do football. See Chuck's post above. Temple currently is in the MAC for football only, while in the A-10 for all other sports. So my idea could be the same: MAC for football, Big East for everything else. Same for Memphis if they were to replace Butler.
  10. Where does Memphis basketball fit into that scenario? Hmm, Memphis has an FBS football program and won't fit into the basketball only Big East. I say they stay in Conference USA. Not sure though. EDIT: Crap, so does Temple. I'm gonna have to rethink that part.
  11. There is no reason for the B1G to take Iowa State or Kansas. They add very little to the revenue pie. ND and Mizzou are the only two options on the table that (1) fit the profile of the conference and (2) add value to the league and increase the BTN's footprint. I'm perfectly content with staying at 12 teams, there is no need to expand to expand. Adding Iowa State will create a natural conference rivalry with Iowa. Adding Kansas will increase the league's basketball profile. You have to add someone if you want to get to 16. That's the assumption I started out with.
  12. With all this talk about four 16 team superconferences, I decided to try to make a preliminary list based on current rumors and geographical considerations. I'm assuming the Big East and the Big 12 are no more. PAC-16 --------- UCLA USC Stanford Cal Oregon Oregon St Washington Washington St Arizona Arizona St Utah Colorado Texas Texas Tech Oklahoma Oklahoma St Big Ten ---------- Minnesota Wisconsin Michigan Michigan St Illinois Northwestern Iowa Indiana Purdue Ohio St Penn St Nebraska Iowa St Notre Dame Missouri Kansas SEC --------- Florida South Carolina Alabama Auburn Mississippi Mississippi St LSU Tennessee Kentucky Vanderbilt Arkansas Georgia Texas A&M TCU West Virginia Louisville ACC --------- Boston College Maryland Virginia Tech Virginia Duke Wake Forest North Carolina NC State Clemson Georgia Tech Miami Florida St Syracuse Pittsburgh Connecticut Rutgers Big East - basketball ---------- Georgetown Villanova St. Johns Seton Hall Marquette Cincinnati South Florida DePaul Providence Xavier Butler Temple Kansas St -> to MWC Baylor -> to MWC Cincinnati -> back to Conference USA South Florida -> back to Conference USA I also think the MWC will become the new Big East in terms of football dominance and will be able to get a BCS automatic bid.
  13. GO PACKERS! I'm actually surprised Packers are only favored by 3.5. I would have thought more after the pounding the Bears took against the Saints. Maybe because they're at home or maybe because the Bears always seem to hold the Packers O in check. No reason not to expect another grind-it-out, hard-nosed affair.
  14. I think the Big East and Big 12 can(and probably will) implode, but we don't end up at 4x16. If the ACC is pillaging the Big East to get to 16 and the Pac-12 takes the public Big 12 South schools to get to 16, I just don't see many attractive options to justify the Big 10 and SEC going to 16. I think you're more likely to see Conference USA and the Mountain West grow their numbers, and the Mountain West may even get to AQ status in the wake of the Big 12 and Big East. That said, I'd think the teams at most risk are ISU, Baylor, TCU, South Florida, and maybe Cincy and Louisville. Well, here's what I think will happen next: - UConn and Rutgers/Louisville to ACC (Rutgers wants in, but I think Louisville would fit better) so ACC is at 16 - A&M and, let's say, West Virginia to SEC to get to 14 in SEC - Texas, Oklahoma, OSU, and BYU/Texas Tech(?) to Pac to get them to 16 - ND/Big Ten makes too much sense not to happen at this point, so the Big Ten adds them and Cincy/Louisville/Rutgers/Missouri to get to 14. That leaves an absence of 4 spots (2 each in SEC/Big Ten) for the 4x16 layout, and leaves Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State, South Florida, TCU, one of BYU/Texas Tech, and two of Cincy/Louisville/Rutgers/Missouri out. Maybe those 8 teams can form another conference from the ashes along with Boise State and a couple other high-profile MWC teams? Rutgers, cause the ACC wants more of that NYC market.
  15. That was a TD. I agree, this entire "process" BS seriously needs to change. Lets not forget that if Calvin Johnson caught that TD, and the season transpired the same way last year, the Packers would have won the division.
  16. Jermichael Finley just got Calvin Johnson'ed.
  17. And there's the Green Bay offense.
  18. I just computed it: the odds are about .179 that 613 TD's in 139 weeks would produce a streak. Not too mind-boggling considering just the sheer number of TD's Miami players have scored in the past 9 seasons.
  19. How the heck did you figure that out? Do you have similar stats for other colleges? This is actually kinda interesting.
  20. I was about to say I knew there was a Ram who played 20 seasons then retired because that was a big deal when I was a kid. But I couldn't remember the name. Afterwards, he became the Last Action Hero.
  21. Ok ok, so Bears looked pretty good. Lions don't look half bad. Vikings looked horrible (except AP).
  22. Watching it on BTN right now ... just, wow ... it doesn't look good.
  23. I'm glad you surprised yourself, Aaron Rodgers, at how awesome you found yourself to be in that moment. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that, though I don't think Rodgers was doing it to be arrogant. He's just saying that he doesn't need off-season workouts with his teammates to be on the same page. All these people have been playing football their entire lives. They know what to look out for in terms of playing their positions.
  24. Don't forget that brutal touchback call. Saints should have started on their own 1 for that last drive. It was the right call -- your momentum can't take you into the EZ. (Per Mike Perreia). Anybody who whined about that call should have their football fan card revoked. It's not a pass reception in college where you just have to get one foot down. He went into the endzone. I was surprised that Al Michaels didn't immediately know that. Collinsworth I can see, but Michaels is a pretty bright guy. I think most football fans wouldn't know that.
