maybe stamkos See there might be players you could argue are better or have more value (like Giroux, Stamkos, Malkin, Crosby), but even if I were to agree, the difference in talent is not much and not enough to overcome the emotional attachment that Toews has built in Chicago. It's like LeBron is better than Rose, but most Bulls fans wouldnt trade Rose for LeBron. But the gap between Rose and LeBron is even bigger IMO than Toews and someone like Stamkos And this is why fans aren't GMs. There isn't a GM in the world that wouldn't trade Rose for LeBron...

I don't think you can think about suspensions/punishments in those terms. You can't reason "well, nobody got hurt so it wasn't that bad" or "they already got punished enough by giving up a goal in the ensuing penalty". The act is the act, independent of what the outcome was. To take another example, the Saints bounty program didn't really hurt anyone, but that doesn't matter in the context of how seriously it violated NFL policies.
