The problem really isn't shootouts at this point. The fact that the Hawks haven't scored a goal in 20 straight overtime sessions is beyond pathetic with the talent they have. Hmm, let's look at that 20 straight overtime streak a bit more closely. 14 of those overtimes ended with nobody scoring. Since overtimes are only 5 minutes long, even if it's 4 on 4 hockey, I would guess that the chances of overtimes ending with nobody scoring would be much greater than 50%. For those other 6 overtimes, the opponent scored before them. Since overtime is sudden death, the Blackhawks are not given a chance to respond with a goal of their own. Perhaps they could have scored a goal if overtime in hockey is like added time in knockout soccer. Who knows.... So yes, I guess losing 6 straight overtimes is sort of concerning, but not overly so. Maybe it means something, maybe nothing. It's a moot point as soon as playoffs roll around anyways.
