  1. I remember one year in the 1990s that I was very excited because every player or 7/8 in the Cubs' regular lineup had been an all-star at some point in their careers. I believe last year's lineup about fit the bill: Pena, Castro, Ramirez, Soto, Soriano, Byrd and Fukudome had all been All-Stars at some point, only Barney had not. And that sure didn't work out...
  2. Why aren't they bringing in Sean Marshall? Oh, wait...
  3. And now Stewart and DeJesus come in to play the field. Why didn't they hit vs. the RHP? Oh well, good luck to Wood.
  4. My question exactly. I also would have thought DeJesus for Johnson. I'm fine with Johnson/Mather vs the LHP's, but then don't have them in for important AB's late in the game against RHP.
  5. I agree. I've actually been learning things. Valentine especially has interesting insights.
  6. Probably since the pitcher spot is due up 1st next inning and the Cardinals are at the bottom of the lineup (and did they say Cashner was unavailable tonight?) Risking Schlitter for another inning is probably necessary here instead of using another pitcher for just 1 inning. ugh. or not.
  7. Stealing with three super hot hitters coming up. Next manager please.
  8. I've got Dish in Chicago. It's on Channel 445. I know. I tried that and It said it was blacked out for me. Have you been able to get it the whole game or just recently? The whole game. Really enjoyed watching Fontenot cost us a run just now too.
  9. do you work for direct tv? or do they just pay you for every time you mention them on the board?
  10. I can't possibly think of two teams I loathe more than the Yankees and the White Sox. If I were at that game I would be booing constantly. uh, the cardinals? I have a different approach to this than most, as I believe the Cardinals are a pretty respectable franchise and, aside from the 20-something males with Napoleon complexes towards the city of Chicago, have really polite and knowledgeable fans. http://jerks.puxley.ca/archives/boners.jpg
  11. It's not like the Cubs were winning and he lost it on his own. And it's not like they had a good chance to win in extras if he got through it. The Cubs scored 4 runs, which is not good, and they were lucky to score those with some poor defense by the Mets letting them cross. The Cubs team lost that game, just like the Cubs team has lost 18 other games this year. It's a poorly constructed team, so that's going to happen. I think it's a cop-out to blame the bullpen. The Cubs finished with 7 scoreless innings last night, that's much more of a problem than Wuertz giving up 1 run. The bullpen is going to give up runs here and there. It's the rotation and lineup's jobs to make sure those occasional runs don't hurt you. well said. you should replace sullivan and wittenmyer
  12. The bullpen officially gave up only one run, but Cherry also let both inherited runs score in the 6th. While I agree the offense should have scored more than 4 last night, scoring at least 4 runs has been found as a good indicator of winning. The bullpen hasn't been the biggest reason why the Cubs have the record they have, but it was the biggest reason why they lost last night. They lost last night because Hank was unable to throw out Reyes on a pitchout and they failed to score anything after loading the bases. Whatever pitcher gives up the last of the five runs isn't actually to blame for the loss, contrary to MLB statistics. Every run is equal.
  13. This is crazy. It's not the bullpens fault. Both papers all over that today. The pen gave up one run last night in three innings of work. They've got a 3.77 ERA on the season. Four runs is not enough. We are struggling because we aren't scoring enough runs.
  14. I love this thread. Sammy has more HR and RBI than the entire Cubs outfield (Soriano, Murton, Floyd, Jones, Pie) combined. Long live the Gladiator!
