  1. Just another color jersey/hat that the Cubs can sell to fans and enhance their own revenue. It's smart from a business stance. You might not buy a green Cubs jersey(which exist) because the Cubs don't ever wear green. But, some people would be willing to purchase the navy blue jersey because the team actually wears them in batting practice and spring training.
  2. This is an honest question. What player of any real value would really want to play for the Cubs right now?
  3. Brian Sabean replaces Dusty with Felipe Alou. He must have a fondness for pitcher abusers.
  4. Livan "150 Pitches" Hernandez was #1 last year, right? Livan has lead the league from 2004-2006. I'm not sure where he stands in terms of lists, but Jason Schmidt is up there too.
  5. Dusty doesn't want to be here, and won't unless JH throws money at him. So basically Dusty doesn't care if Zambrano throws 160 pitches to get the win, as long as it helps his W/L record to make him more appealing to other teams. Think about it...that is Dusty's PO He would do that if his job was secure and he loved being the Cubs' manager, imo. He just doesn't recognize pitch counts and abuses pitchers arms no matter what the situation.
  6. It was odd to see Dusty wipe Z's face for him. It was like a mom who licks her finger and cleans of a bit of dirt off her child's face.
  7. Z hurt on the play. Luke Scott looks to have stepped on Z's heel.
  8. The Cubs need to worry about putting together a team that can get W's.
  9. Are you saying they look "weird" without the last names on the back? Yes. That whole "clubhouse chemistry"/"no I in team" mentality went way too far when they took the names off. Personally, I'm used to the Cubs with no last names on the back of their home uniforms. Having last names on the back just wasn't what I was used to seeing. That being said, it really doesn't bother me either way.
  10. Are you saying they look "weird" without the last names on the back?
  11. They need to talk to the Milwaukee announcers. Wasn't it them that said that Barrett is great defensively? There has to be a happy medium between the two announcing teams.
  12. I'd trade 3 pitchers for Taveras if I were Hendry. Just picture a lineup consisting of Pierre, Tavarez and Izturis. Will have to move Pierre or Tavarez to a corner of spot.
  13. That settles it. Jim Hendry will acquire Willy Tavarez at some point.
  14. Oh one other thing I forgot to mention in my previous post is that Schuerholz makes it a point to mention Jim Hendry when he talks about making trades. He mentioned Hendry, Beane and one other GM (whom I can't remember) as the GMs that he likes to make deals with because he trusts them and believes they are GMs on the up and up.
  15. Vance made a thread about it awhile back, and he seemed to enjoy Dierker's book quite a bit. he was talking about "This Ain't Brain Surgery" I think. I added "My Team" to that other thread and provided a link, but just because I happened to stumble upon it while browsing the books at Barnes and Noble. Anyways I did read the Schuerholz book. It is overall rather boring and unrevealing. But, that being said there were a couple of interesting things such as his view of Billy Beane and Moneyball. Also, he talks about how Barry Bonds was an Atlanta Brave for a few hours(verbal agreement), the Furcal DUI ordeal, his view on agents and refusal to give NTCs.
  16. Agreed. See Kevin Youkilis.
  17. He has now retired 22 straight hitters after 8 innings.
  18. Maddux pitching another great game. He has given up two hits to the Giants' hitters after seven innings. Both hits were given up in the first inning. Currently, the score is 0-0. Edit to add: He has only thrown 60 pitches through 7 innings.
  19. That almost worries me. If the Cubs like him, there must be something wrong with him. Vance can correct me if I'm wrong since he's been on the Freddie bandwgn for a long time, but I think they interviewed him before they hired Dusty. That is correct. And Hendry was extremely impressed with Gonzalez's interview. The only stumbling block was the availability of Dusty.
  20. Whoops. Bad timing. Cedeno caught picking his nose on camera.
  21. Pirates have just completed the sweep of the Cardinals winning 7-0.
  22. My only guess is Dusty looks at numbers and doesn't recognize sample size. Barrett 1-7 against Kim coming into taday's game. Mabry 1-1 against Kim coming into today's game. Dusty said he moved Barrett down in the order because it was a day game after a night game. So he didn't think Barrett would be effective offensively today?
