Just out of curiosity, I wonder if Krivsky could have worked a deal (before the trade with the Nationals) with the Padres for Linebrink. The Padres dangled Linebrink because of their desperation for a third baseman. A Felipe Lopez package to Padres since he has played some third base. Granted he has not played a lot of third base, but then again the Padres did settle for Todd Walker who is a good offensive pick up, but a definite gamble since he never played third. Or even Ryan Freel could have been a posible part of a package for Linebrink rather than Lopez. It would just depend on who Towers preferred in the package Lopez or Freel.
