  1. Len Kasper is such an improvement over Chip Caray it's not even funny. While I like Brenly, I wish someone would hire him to manage their team into the ground so Stoney could get back in there. Kasper/Stone would be so freaking sweet. My favorite Chip Caray boner was 6/19/04 when Barrett had that game winning RBI against Oakland. I think that was the game. So anyways, Chip is all, "the Cubs come back against the closer, that almost NEVER happens in baseball". Pardon me?
  2. It's definitely a possibility, but you gotta understand New Hampshire. We're talking what is probably the most libertarian state in the union, Tax-Free New Hampshire. Obama pulls in quite a few independents, but McCain (according to the polls) is leading amongst Republicans so if he maintains that lead he won't really need as many independents, though he will get a few, as conventional thinking would assume. Another distinct possibility is that Huckabee pulls in quite a few independents based on his small-government ethics. New Hampshirians (?) eat that stuff up like hot cakes. Ron Paul beating Giuliani again would be hilarious, as well. Not that I'm disagreeing with you, just thinking out loud. Your scenario is just as much in play as mine. This whole republican primary situation is just absolute chaos. I like it.
  3. List your also-rans, if so inclined. McCain Romney Huckabee Paul Thompson Giuliani
  4. If you so desire, also put what you think the results will be for the also-rans. Mine: Obama Clinton Edwards Richardson
  5. Nailed it. I had Clinton ahead of Edwards.
  6. Pretty good definition with the exception of the [a]. The size of the government is implicit in their goals. Reducing its size would be anathema to their agenda. Neo-cons are new conservatives, meaning, they used to be big government liberals, who got old and crabby yet remained ambitious in their world-view. So it's not that they place less emphasis on the size of the government, it's that they place no emphasis on the size of the government. It's remarkably similar to fascism in execution.
  7. Why did you list the most important reason last?
  8. Huckabee seems to have a solid lead, but you never know.
  9. Who's taking the first round? Also, for those who live in Iowa, are any of you planning to be a Good American and caucus?
  10. Well CSNC now but you know why games are on WCIU...to placate the non cable audience. Yes, Virginia, there are people who still do not have cable or satellite. I think you would be surprised just how many. That justification makes no sense seeing as how WGN is broadcast over the air and carries close to half of the games. Quite simple actually. Those WCIU games are kept off the superstation and hence no superstation tax. If they weren't on WCIU, I can guarantee they would be on CSNC and not WGN for that reason alone. Ok, but my point still stands. Putting games on WCIU to "placate the non cable audience" makes no sense, since the non-cable audience already gets close to half of the Cubs games already via WGN. Whether the games currently on WCIU would go to WGN or CSN is of little consequence. Why they are on WCIU in the first place is the issue, and you explanation does nothing to give us any idea as to why they are.
  11. I actually like this game that Mariotti is playing. Mariotti, for better or for worse, is an incredibly popular sports columnist. I have my doubts about how effective his game may be, but there's a decent chance that Canning could be passed over despite being the favorite among Selig and his ilk if Cuban's bid is larger and proves to have the financial wherewithal to support the team after the sale. The stakes are really high for Selig if they select Canning in this case, because if he fails to build success on the North Side, there is going to be significant backlash and people are really going to begin calling into question as to how the MLB is selecting its owners. A slim chance, but I think that possibility is in play. Cuban is an overwhelming favorite amongst Cub fans to buy the team, and being as concerned about PR and profitability as Selig is, he might want to avoid the trouble if Cuban's bid is equal to or greater than Canning's. All speculation on my part, it's quite possible that Canning could be better suited to financially steward our franchise, but if he's not and gets the team anyway, it could get pretty interesting, especially around here. Does anyone know what the remaining steps are to selling the team? I assume that since the three finalists are now able to look at the books that all that is left is a submission of the bids and evidence of the bidder's financial ability to support the team long-term. Anyone know for sure?

  14. Who's Felix Pie?
  15. Uh, grab your seats Cuban lovers, this is getting interesting: Cuban one of three bidders to get to view the books
  16. I definitely agree with you there. Puckett doesn't have THE numbers for the HOF, but the writers gave him the benefit of the doubt because of his career ending prematurely. The same isn't given to Belle. The media absolutely HATED that guy (not saying I blame them), but he was just a beast. I think people have almost forgotten about him. He only played 10 full seasons and his average line was .295/.369/.564, 143 OPS+, 40hr, 130 rbi. I will never forget Albert Belle. He was one of my favorite players in the mid-90's, in part because of his surly attitude.
  17. I don't know if they will or won't make it, but Bonds most certainly belongs in the Hall. He'll get the Big Mac treatment on the first ballot, but from there on out, anyone who doesn't vote him in is a gigantic moran. It's somewhat debatable whether or not McGwire should be in or not (in the sense that people debate it), but I think he and especially Sosa are definite HoF'ers.
  18. Love the forensic picture analysis and all, but yeah, a little light on the 'evidence' stuff. Besides, who cares if Sammy took roids. It's neither here nor there. Except, here, in the steroids thread.
  19. I'd bet CT's life that Kevin Brown was a juicer. I'll see CT's life and raise you MurtonFan's. Edit: Forgot, I can't raise less than you opened with. I'll throw in Raisin too. I'll meet that, and throw in a Little Lord Fontenot and whoever it is that is in my signature.
  20. This just might be the worst idea/news ever.
  21. I give this thread maybe five hours.
  22. I take it you didn't click the link.
