In general, the Pixar films stick to rather basic conceptual frameworks. In this case, A Bug's Life is a simple tale about a group of oppressed individuals overcoming their oppressors. You could probably shoehorn many historical analogues into this framework, from American Revolutionaries to, as you assert, communists. Hell, you could probably fit Jesus in there somewhere if you were so inclined. That being said, I really need to see this one again. I'm moving it towards the top of my netflix queue.
