  1. This argument in particular doesn't make any sense to me. As a fan, why wouldn't you want a manager who would bring in fan support and revenue streams that would allow your team's owner to field a huge payroll and aquire more premium talent? Oh, because of some deluded and largely self imagined sense of superiority over other fans? It's amazing to me how seemingly grown and rational adults still cling to "jocks vs. geeks vs. nerds vs. stoners" pre-teen junior high school tribalism. the manager's job, first and foremost, is to execute the organization's philosophy for winning baseball games by managing in-game tactics as well as the 25 guys in the clubhouse. whether he puts people in the seats or not is too flimsy and immeasurable of a criterium for selecting the appropriate person.
  2. rogers is such a joke. "rick hahn is the right man for the job" umm, based on what, exactly?
  3. how much crack do you smoke? chills is meth not crack i think
  4. "i don't want ryno to be the manager, because all i hear on sports radio is people who want ryno to be manager" and "ryno isn't qualified as a manager, because if he was, he would be a manager" =/= sense i guess i'm pretty agnostic on the whole ryne Sandberg as mgr thing, but it seems to me that the fact that this dude quit his job in a hissy fit because he didn't get hired to his stated dream job probably doesn't inspire confidence in other teams as to their ability to draw long-term commitment from him.
  5. haha this is awesome. rickets just bought himself a bunch of cool friends he could never get anywhere near him in real life, with that awkward manner, pasty skin, and doofy haircut.
  6. what's with the purse woo?

  12. as awesome as kaplan's coverage of this situation has been, it will never balance the scales for saying he'd rather have a team of 9 ryan theriots than 9 aramis ramirez'zs this is pretty awesome stuff though. does abuck still exist? I heard kaplan say on the radio that epstein went on tour with pearl jam. i mean, can that friedman guy say that? pff
  13. Did you find Chocolate Milk? no, but i look for him every time i drive past that red brick condo building on the river and lake shore dr cause i feel like i remember someone saying he shacked up there i even made a giant sign that said chocolate milk and wore it to the taste of chicago cause that's right by there, but all i got was dirty looks but anyway, i think we're a little off topic here people ideas worse than hiring sandberg as cubs mgr: 1) hiring sandberg as a player/manager (t) 2) punching self in the pills watching twilight
  14. thanx for posting...I couldnt remember who the nickel bet was with you'll want to forget at the end of the season too
  15. This season is going to make me a nickel richer! I'm really excited to see the new Hawks, as well as see how well the core responds to shedding so many teammates and friends and of course, winning it all last season. It's going to be real interesting.
  16. but yeah wedge is underwhelming for a fanbase hungry to chew up and spit out the next big name, but if the word on the street is true about the next manager needing to be versed in player development aided by quantitative evaluation, well, wedge would fit that bill. we could do a lot worse.
  17. those expectations were probably unrealistic. they had the white sox by the balls in '05 but they blew it. the failure to put any substantial offense around their core of sizemore, vmart, and pronk is what did them in, in addition to the latter's rather rapid decline. i mean, yeah, pronk had old man skills, but so does south side paulie. throw in some bullpen woes and the need to trade off players coming into their contract years and you have an issue staying competitive.
  18. so dramatic. I'd rather Girardi hang out in NY for a few more years while we get our situation sorted out with a young-ish manager who can play percentages but still teach professional baseball effectively. I still go by the Bill James rule that a manager is at best +5 wins a year, so i'd rather just wait till we get a team where 5-10 games doesn't decide the season, then bring in Girardi to be the one that is at the helm when we win it all.
  19. A couple of national/Canadian writers have pretty much been saying the same things that these Wings bloggers did. Ok, so whats your honest opinion then? I'm not a mod but personally I'll give you immunity from being called a troll. Are we in denial, or are the 'experts' overlooking what remains on the Hawks? The Hawks are a hard team to measure. I think they could come in anywhere between 90-115 points. I think the Wings are probably a more safe pick to win the division because they have made a couple of small additions that will help and havent not lost anyone of note. I think the Wings will win the division because I am a homer and have a nickel riding on it. I'm consoled by my impression that the wings need to stay healthy in order to top the hawks for the division. I'm worried about a sense of complacency or a lack of chemistry if not depth. It's going to be an interesting year coming off of the euphoria of last season.
  20. haha buff. i wouldn't expect anything else.
  21. lol no one was gung ho about it, we just weren't crapping out of our mouths over it. there's a difference.
  22. i'm a fan of the soriano-to-first idea.
