  1. Exactly. I think he compares very favorably to Eckstein.
  2. This team is awful. I remember in the mid to late 70's I used to wait for the famous "June swoon" when a Cub team playing slightly over .500 would collapse. After the last couple of years, I would love to get to June with a competitive team. The Cubs are now working on the "April swoon."
  3. The concern is it is not just HRs, but he is not hitting the ball with any authority. Another concern is the strikeouts--ouch.
  4. Now it's Lou's turn to say "i've never seen that in all my years in baseball." Welcome to the Cubs.
  5. At least the pile of garbage wearing Cub uniforms last year could beat the Cards.
  6. Poor Lilly. I never thought I would say that about someone earning $40 million over the next four years. His wasted efforts have just begun.
  7. I'm guessing this question has Jacque Jones in mind, and as others have said, I would not look for anything until relatively late in ST when teams are close to their final roster. In addition, ST injuries are a factor.
  8. I don't want any part of Schmidt. His injury history plus Rothschild = out for the year by June at the latest.
  9. The only bigger joke than stretching the hiring process out to November is needing the second half of the season to evaluate Dusty. Hendry is either clueless or disingenuous.
  10. Exactly. This entire year has been a September call-up.
  11. In that case, Walker may very well be a CF candidate for next year. Walks?!! We don't need no stinking walks!
  12. I agree, especially due to the fact it is going to take a boat load of money to work on the other myriad holes that need attention this offseason.
  13. Amazing. Yes, Izzy is starting. Your second baseman--Cedeno? No, it's Neifi. Either Neifi or Baker (preferably both) have to go.
  14. The problem with the call to "play kids" is we have no kids to play. Pie is not ready, and who else is there? Personally I would love to see the Cubs be able to play kids--we might then see a team with some hustle. Unfortunately, it is not an option with this organization.
  15. Based on his actions the past year or so, I fear Hendry doing something more that nothing.
  16. I hope Dusty stays the rest of the year. If we have to watch this abomination, he should too. The last thing I want to read about is Dusty enjoying relaxing fishing trips, while the Cubs season continues its swirl around the toilet bowl.
  17. If Hill is the Cubs number 3 starter next year, 2007 will be worse than the disaster we are currently witnessing. In addition, if Hill is the #3, Hendry is worse than I think he is, and that is saying something.
  18. badger has nailed it repeatedly in this thread--Hill has one pitch, and that does not a major league pitcher make. The difference between good organizations (Atlanta) and bad ones (Cubs) is the ability to recognize who is a legitimate prospect and who is not. Hill had decent value last year and maybe even this year, if he was left in AAA to accumulate good numbers. Unfortunately, after he succeeds in proving he is a AAAA pitcher with a few more appearances, he will be severely devalued.
  19. The win blowing out + the Reds at Wrigley has been a very bad combination for the Cubs the past few years.
  20. Guzman deserves a shot, but not Hill--at least not now. He was overmatched with a capital O last year and in the spring.
