George Offman is reporting on the Score that Cuban's bid was the highest. That Cuban says he "won't be outbid", and that there's a school of thought that MLB will allow him to buy, because they're afraid that Cuban and the Tribune Co. would sue MLB, and that it could threaten their anti-trust exemption.

Gibbons isn't the manager anymore. True...but they didn't exactly back Lilly up. I dunno...Lilly seems the type to me to hold a grudge. Maybe I'm wrong. In any case...I'd rather trade Marquis for obvious reasons. :P

Part of the reason for including Marquis in the deal is salary. He's owned 7 million next season still, and what...3.5 million still this season? Ted Lilly would be a much more logical choice for a salary-balancer. He's got 2/$24M left after this season, so the margin between that and what Halladay's owed is only around $6M total. Not sure if Lilly left Toronto on good terms or not. Anyway, start with Lilly and Cedeno for Halladay and Eckstein, and then start piling on the young guys. I don't think Toronto will want Lilly after he got into a screaming match with the manager...

If his group wins, feel bad for every unattached single person in the office especially the women who are the same age as his sons. ;) I didn't say I wanted him owning the team...I just like him being there. I'm still pulling for Cuban...and I know you have your connections and such, and not to be dismissive, but I haven't heard anything that makes me think he doesn't have a shot at this point.

Include Marquis to give them a ML arm to fill the rotation spot with...you'd probably need to give up Pie and Hill for sure...how much more do you think we'd need to give?

Does Ricketts have Chicago ties? Also, I think the pink hat guy was going to submit a bid too. Pink hat guy as you call him is Jim Anixter. He wasn't allowed to buy the team last time it was up for sale and he won't be allowed to buy it this time. Let's say if it came down to him and Cuban, baseball would be happy to sell to Cuban. Anixter is a complete lunatic. I always smile when I see him behind home plate though. Dunno why.

According to Mully and Hanley this morning, Wood could only throw breaking stuff yesterday, and is still having issues. They were saying that Hendry may look for a closer, like Fuentes.

He's gonna make a few mil...he's coming out ahead here. And you know, they gave Alex Brown, Robbie Gould, Brian Urlacher more money...why shouldn't Hester be a little ticked that they haven't gotten his done? He's the only "offensive" star that they've had the last couple of years. I think holding out before a final offer is a bit strange, but I can't say I blame him. That said, this better get resolved in a hurry.

I don't think that was a critique of the play on the field. As they said, the Bears were in the SB 2 years ago. The rankings the way I see them, are reflections on how each team is run "as a business" and in that aspect, the Bears fare poorly.

Nice to see the Bears are so family oriented, letting the players bring their kids to camp with them. Who's old enough on the Bears to have a 12-year old though? That Ron Howard is just perpetually young. Man I'm pumped for football...even if the Bears are sketchy at best.
