  1. I don't see Ricketts interfering with a baseball decision like this. Maybe he'd add enough payroll to make it less of a risk in Hendry's mind, but I'm sure Hendry has a pretty good idea what Ricketts is going to offer up as a budget. The only way Ricketts will help is by firing Hendry as soon as he gets day to day control.
  2. So Dick Stockton has done announcing for NBA, NFL, and MLB games....and knows jack about any of them.
  3. Cutler pic from the Trib this morning...obviously from his Vandy days. http://www.chicagotribune.com/media/photo/2009-10/49728166.jpg
  4. The Vikings one is funny, because I don't think they did much to the face other than take off the yellow hair, put the gray hair and stubble on. The face is the same, and yet looks a lot like Favre, IMO. But yeah, the Rams one is best. No sure I get the Jets one. Just cuz they have improved defense I guess?
  5. Yeah...as good as Hester was...you have to think Toub had a lot to do with the 06 season. Manning led the league in yards per return last year and Knox is doing the same thing so far this season. He's definitely doing something right. The Bears have generally been excellent in all areas of special teams too including punt and kick coverage so I think he has to get a lot of credit. I've been critical of Maynard but the numbers disagree with me. Why critical of Maynard? He's only really had the one bad punt that I can think of (the shank against Seattle).
  6. Yeah...as good as Hester was...you have to think Toub had a lot to do with the 06 season.

  8. Bears in a landslide. They haven't even attempted to establish the run. I guess that's endorsement enough as to how bad our run blocking line is in that the coaching staff won't even try to establish the run. A coaching staff and organization that has always bled smash mouth, in your face, clock gobbling run game. Luckily, Cutler has enough weapons through the air on offense to make up for the lack of ground game. However, hardly ever running the ball does make the running game a bit stronger in that the defense isn't expecting the run. And Forte proved that if you can get through the first wave of defenders, he can match any linebacker and quite a few db's in a foot race. I think it has more to do with Cutler than bad run blocking. I think Turner is pass enamored. If you're gonna be pass happy though, like Brad Biggs was saying on the radio this morning, you really have to start drawing up some big plays for some of these WR's. So far we've had what...one long pass, and that really was a short pass with a nice Hester run for a TD. If you believe Hester is really a number 1, and you believe that Knox is an up and comer, start watching how other teams are getting their receivers open, and get some packages designed specifically to do that.
  9. Time for Crabtree to get the Cedric Benson treatment from the team.
  10. http://cdn.cloudfiles.mosso.com/c54102/app2089271254851342.jpg The week before facing the Pats....ouch.
  11. Minnesota still has a lot to prove before they get "sure thing" status for me. And I'm way not convinced the Broncos are anything more than an illusion. Or the Bengals.
  12. Yeah, I'm starting to think that he isn't really that much better than AVG. He is. Yeah, he's had a bad start. I'm convinced he's still going to be a force at some point this season. Especially as the receivers start to get more respect from defenses.
  13. I wasn't either. We'd be 4-0 if we had an average offensive line. Aaron Rodgers has been sacked 20 times this year. TWENTY. No kidding, its a joke. their o-line sucks but sometimes he really just needs to throw the ball. when he got safetied in the end zone the blocking wasn't too bad; he held the ball far too long. you can't have third and long from your own one yard line and expect to scramble around for 5 seconds. there was another one of those plays tonight too, i think it was on first down somewhere around the minnesota 35, he had good protection but held the ball way too long and got sacked. That said, there's been quite a few times this year where he's scrambled out of sacks and has made some good plays on his feet. I do agree with you though, he needs to learn how to throw the ball away. He probably could've gotten some yardage by running it himself on that play. The blocking in front of him was good...
  14. Nobody ever claimed there to be parity after only 4 games. That's probably impossible. The Broncos aren't going to win all their games, and the Titans (presumeably) won't lose all of theirs. It will even out over the long run of the season. Also, I never really thought parity meant that you wouldn't have good and bad teams in an individual season. But that bad teams wouldn't stay bad and good teams would have a harder time staying good over the long run. We can debate the extent to which that has been the case (Hello Patriots and Lions), but that's what I took the whole "parity" thing to mean.
  15. I'm hoping the line had a revelation in the 2nd half. They managed to start getting pressure on Stafford with a 4 man rush that they weren't doing in the first half. I think getting Hillenmeyer back will help a bit in the middle of the field. He's not a great pass defender, but Roach really wasn't doing much in protecting the middle of the field at all. The blitz has something to do with that, but having Urlacher out really gives teams license to go after us over the middle through the air. He really made that zone defense work in the middle. Offense and ST are really going to bail out the D this year.
  16. I'm still a Bengals skeptic.
  17. My thoughts on the Broncos: If the defense is going to be that good, they don't need much from Orton to win (see: the Bears past 3-4 years). However, there is no scenario in which they are a better team because of the QB change. Well they've had 3 cupcake teams, and then the Cowboys. They have a brutal 4 game schedule coming up. If they win 1 or 2 of the next 4, then they can brag.
  18. Oh boy...Peter King has bought into the Broncos.
  19. All those teams had a chance to sign him in the offseason and wanted nothing to do with the guy. Only the Lions can manage to lose to themselves. St Louis appears capable.
  20. Having actually watched him play for an antire game, I'll agree he's likely the real deal, though still young and mistake prone. The Lions have a good one. That first half he carved us up.
