  1. My brother was at the Kerry 20k game. And he's barely a fan. So I've long been jealous of that...and would have to choose that one.
  2. Not sure, but I think it may have something to do with the big time zone difference, so they figure they can get a huge night of hockey out of 2 games back to back. Plus, they are cognizant of competing with other entertainment, and might feel they would do better on Sun/Tue than on Sun/Mon/Tue/Wed I was going to say maybe they had booking issues with the arenas...but it looks like Philly's arena has nothing else going on this week.
  3. I'm starting to get to the point where I start to get worried about the home games. I was reading how the players say they try to get too cute at home, trying to put on a show for the fans. I don't know if I buy that. I think it's more or less just a small sample size. But it is weird so see them outscored so far at home in the playoffs 20-15(17-14 without empty nets) I wonder...do they take more penalties at home? Maybe they're just too jacked up and play less disciplined?
  4. Good stuff, although they clearly didn't get the memo that Luongo shaved to reverse his luck. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/multimedia/photo_gallery/1005/nhl.playoff.beards/content.1.html

  6. That's beautiful.
  7. lol...this is probably King's "make up" pick for picking the Bears as SB champs last year.
  8. http://cdn1.sbnation.com/entry_photo_images/391179/63940_blackhawks_niemi_hockey.jpg Am I crazy for thinking he looks like a scruffy Kerry Wood in this pic?
  9. So we better win this thing this year.
  10. Peter King released his preseason rankings.... Green Bay #1 Chicago #25 http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writers/peter_king/05/16/ranking/index.html
  11. Man there's a lot of guys that used to do some Cubs announcing that are announcing throughout the league. Steve Stone Chip Carey Thom Brennaman Josh Lewin Dewayne Staats And there's at least 4 ex Cubs that are announcing too... Mark Grace Ron Coomer Gary Matthews Jeff Huson Doesn't really mean a lot...just thought it was interesting.
  12. Heh...I thought the same thing reading that article this morning. David Haugh has spent too much time around the likes of Rick Morrisey (before he left) and Steve Rosenbloom. Rosenbloom is simply horrible. He's the king of meaningless banter packaged up to sound like knowledgeable debate. He never says anything of substance, ever. Admittedly I've only really heard him on his Saturday morning show on the Score, but he consistently throws stuff out there that is nothing more than voodoo opinion with nothing behind it. His trib articles are as bad or worse than his radio appearances.
  13. Ok, I know ESPN is bad, but I don't see the problem here. One of the slowest professional athletes, who admits that he's one of the slowest professional athletes, is called slow by the biggest arms in sports media, and he's mad because they hurt his feelings? I think the real problem here is expectations. As in, I think Bengie Molina expects far too much out of ESPN. They aren't what he thought they were. And that's not really their fault.
  14. I've been a Cubs-Bears fan all my life, but the first sports team I was obsessed with was the MJ Bulls. It really prompted an addiction to my sports teams. I can't imagine anything topping that.

  16. Huet was specifically who I was thinking of when I was wondering about that. But then they have to sign another back up goaltender... The Hawks definitely have some big contracts to work around.
  17. They are, for the most part, guaranteed. However, there is some sort of mechanism where teams can negotiate out of a longer term deal, maybe paying something like 50% of the remaining. I'm not sure of the details, but I think it's more like baseball but not as stringent. Thanks. Just wondered since, from what I've read, Chicago has some payroll issues to deal with this summer.
  18. Hockey newb question...are hockey contracts guaranteed like MLB, or can you cut your losses like the NFL?
  19. OMFG Niemi! What a game...SJ was as advertised...those two teams played at a pace we just haven't seen in the first two series. Ugh....9pm game on Tuesday? That's going to kill me. Might have to trade for the late shift on Wednesday.
  20. Yep...and we really haven't made a real push yet...we've just kind of absorbed theirs.
  21. I hate anticipating Sunday sporting events. It's like I'm in a hurry for my weekend to go by to see the game, but then afterwards it's like...ugh...I have to work tomorrow....:P It's a real problem for me during football season.
  22. I'm with you, and I think what is bothering us is a lack of hope. There's no big name superstar like a Jake Peavy, or Brian Roberts, or Nomar, or anyone that's going to come and help turn this team around. There's no big name guy that's going to be coming off the disabled list to help out. This is a full strength team that's sucking. There's no indications that Lou or Hendry are in any kind of great danger of losing their jobs...maybe some hope on the board, but there's no massive outcry that I've noticed...not like there was with Baker and Baylor anyway. And we're stuck with some massive contracts that aren't going away after this season. Lee and Lilly (I think) are the only two that are free agents after this season...and really, Lilly hasn't been a problem since he's been here...and there's no real heir-apparent for Lee. So those don't feel like relief points. The Blackhawks, Bulls and Bears all have something to look forward too...though some moreso than others. I just don't see that with the Cubs right now. And it turns out that I'm a bigger fan of the Cubs than I am of baseball as a whole...which I'm not proud to say around here.
  23. Fair enough...I didn't realize that it was that cut and dry with big basketball deals.
