  1. they won't be able to. this line gets confused blocking a 4-man front. Why are some fans so obsessed with the blitz? I would actually welcome some over aggressive blitzing this week. Cutler can exploit that on occassion. The Bears lack the line to block straight up and look deep. It drove me nuts that we didn't do more dump off passes to Forte or Davis on the blitzes that the Saints were doing late. It seems like it should've been so easy to have some short routes rather than trying to max protect all the time.
  2. In my opinion there are 3 majors factors the Bears cannot rely on; the offensive line, the receivers, and the secondary. All three of them are anywhere from subpar to horrible. It has gotten to the point where the WR coach is acting like a high school coach telling fans to love them or leave them. Those receivers are really bad. They provide no safety valve for Cutler, and of course with this offensive line you need that safety valve. The game will have to be won by Cutler, Forte, the dline and linebackers. But they might need another special teams break to make it happen. Last week I wasn't too upset about Roy Williams being out, but now I'm really hoping he's back this week. Even if he drops the ball far too often, he's the biggest target the Bears have, and the defense has got to cover him. Maybe(?) this will let some other WR's get open, or keep them from being able to bring safeties on the blitz as often. Could be wishful thinking.
  3. does not compute "We are proud members of the Big 12." = "Rex is our quarterback." = "We're sticking with the status quo, because change is scary."
  4. After the Pac-12 shot them down. It's loyalty by process of elimination.
  5. Matt Bowen writes some of my favorite football articles.
  6. Florio picks the Bears by 3. Rosenthal picks the Pack by 3. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/09/22/pfts-week-three-picks-2/
  7. So you're saying next year we should be injury free? Sweet.
  8. That same article about Carimi being out a few weeks says they hope to have him back before the off week, so its closer to the originally speculated 4 weeks. Earl Bennett will be out this week. Lance Louis was limited in practice Wednesday, and may be tried at RT next week depending on what Omiyale does. Moving around the young guy, Louis rather than the "experienced" guy in Spencer... Chris Harris and Roy Williams were both limited on Wednesday. Harris will be a game time decision. Williams won't speculate on his status. Wright didn't practice.
  9. Googling "college football rankings" gets me to them on ESPN faster than going to ESPN and clicking through the site.
  10. college football rankings college football stats college football champions college football reference (I never remember the different url's for the "reference" sites)
  11. I googled "nate silver college football" about an hour ago.
  12. Nate Silver is a god and his word is gospel. maybe there is a better way/approach, but I sure don't see anyone providing one. I don't need numbers to prove it. I can just see it with my eyes!
  13. It's because they're a borderline JUCO that has no fanbase or media markets of note. Their stadium seats 5000 less than the lowest BCS conference team(Cincy). They're currently increasing the seating capacity of the stadium, which will seat 53,000 when complete in time for the 2013 season. According to Nate Silver, they have a bigger fan base than TCU. Boise State is the #41 highest seller in collegiate apparel (for the first quarter of 2010-2011 fiscal year) as well. Academics is the excuse I hear the most, but frankly I think it's far more likely about geography. If they were located closer further south, I think they'd have a better chance. According to Nate Silver, Clemson has the 10th biggest fanbase in the coutnry. 24th in merchandise sales.
  14. Vasher's 108-yd missed FG return was in the orange jersey. Bears won 17-9. http://www.sportsrecords.us/files/images/nathan-vasher-returns-108-yards.jpg

  16. In my crazy dream world, Boise State is in that discussion.... http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/kk14/sudie70/drunk.gif
  17. Yeah, that's the same article that was posted early this morn. Always love Silver's stuff though.
  18. Not sure how this didn't get more publicity, but the "headlines" that Fox said were real during the Bears-Falcons game....weren't. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/smack/chi-110917-smack-graphic,0,4921109.graphic Sorry the article is in graphic form, so it's a bit difficult to read. I thought at the time those looked fishy...I didn't think he was attacked like that in any Chicago newspapers.
  19. http://missouri.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1267857 Officially getting my hopes up. I don't know much about Missouri, and I'm pretty clueless about this whole realignment stuff, but I think I'd try not to get too excited until someone other than a Missouri fan-site reports it.
  20. They're temporary, usually resolved by a reload, but I've gotten "out of memory" errors while on the site both yesterday and today, Tim. Just a heads up.
  21. Hopefully Cutler not having a footprint on his throat will help with picking up blitzes. How has GB been against the screen? That was something that the Saints did a pretty good job of taking away from the Bears.
  22. Nick Collins out for the season.
  23. Has Kaplan always been this [expletive] crazy? I honestly don't remember him being this nuts back when it was him and Waddle on 720 SportsCentral, and that was the only time we heard from him... But that could just be convenient memory.
  24. Might as well keep him out through the bye then. That'd mean he'd be out for GB, Car, @Det, Min, and @TB in London. Back in time for Philly on 11/7.
