  1. lol...they've learned that winning doesn't actually do much for attendance in Florida.
  2. So...how many people had Pujols to the Angels? Wilson?
  3. yeah, i was just going to say the same thing. running those numbers is hard, and the people involved here are not smart. they almost certainly just looked at the tax rates in each state and assumed yearly salary times state tax rate equals money lost by not going to florida or texas. Bernie uses a "source" for his mention about the tax implications....doesn't sound like he broke out the adding machine or anything. http://www.stltoday.com/sports/baseball/professional/pujols-to-sign-with-angels/article_9181b070-21ae-11e1-93ef-0019bb30f31a.html
  4. The Cardinals had Stan Musial call Pujols to try to talk him into staying.
  5. I'll probably hate my Directv once the intro rate is gone too, man.
  6. It'll make them a better team in 4-5 years, but it sure as hell doesn't make them better now. It doesn't make them better at any point. It may allow them to more easily try and get better, but nothing about him leaving makes them better. My buddy's argument is that they'll now have the money to take care of Wainwright.
  7. I believe the WGN portion of the deal is what really sucks. And it wasn't clear at the time how successful things like YES Network would be. Yeah, the Comcast deal isn't the horrible part right now; it's the remaining WGN games that aren't making anywhere near what they should. I can't remember the exact dates, but I want to say their current TV deals are done by or after 2016. I just wanna get games off WCIU. Only games I can't watch.
  8. There's a number of people who are kinda silly about honor and legacy and all that, but it's hard for them to get worked up over 10/250 when all the talk had been anchored near 200 million thus far. Yeah, my Card fan friends are all "I can't believe he was all about the money". None of them is upset that the Cards didn't match. I cant believe they are saying that when the Cardinals essentially had him signed to one of the most team friendly deals in baseball history. That contract probably cost Albert $50 million, which is ironically the gap between the Cards offer and LAs. That's what I keep telling them. Albert had played at a discount for years. He's gotten them 2 WS titles. He'd given and given to STL. Now, it's "me time" for him. Hard to blame him. It's gonna be his last contract.

  10. Zero need for a new thread. I'll update the subject of the other one.
  11. Great question. I don't even care anymore about the DH. I just want the same rules for all games, especially with constant interleague play.
  12. The joke is dead, folks.
  13. Admittedly I don't have to do it often, but I have no issues with driving in Chicago typically.
  14. If for some reason we don't end up with Pujols or Fielder, any interest in Lee at 1B? He's always hit really well at Wrigley. He's only under contract through 2012 and is owed $18.5mil. meh, had you suggested this 4-5 years ago i'd say hell yeah! not so much now Definitely getting old, but he was 4.6 WAR last season per B-R. Just another option that's out there. Wasn't much of that WAR from his hilarious defensive ratings? Yes. About half of it. He was 2.5 oWAR.
  15. The contradiction meetings continue:
