  1. Didn't he just say on Saturday in the pregame that an extension was probably coming up??? I don't like Rosenthal...but I hope he's right.
  2. Hey guys!! I was watching 24, and missed the game...did we win?!?!?! :P
  3. I'm guessing that he's just spouting off the same "extension coming" info that the beat writers have been saying, and just putting a "listen to me" spin on it by saying "any day now". I don't think there's anything new here.
  4. That was my point though. Bobby is still in baseball, and would be a viable managerial candidate, when what bsb has been arguing is that there aren't viable candidates available. At least I think that's what he's arguing, since he's asked about 4 times in this thread for managerial candidates. I honestly thought he was genuinely curious as to what Davey Johnson is up to nowadays.. Maybe I'm naive. :? That's exactly what I was wondering. I knew Valentine was in Japan and many former managers are working media in some capacity or a 1st/3rd base coach (Pujols, Pena, etc). I was just wondering where and what Johnson was up to. My bad then...thought you were being sarcastic.

  6. Aren't all managers that don't currently have jobs, and thus are not managing, out of baseball? How about Bobby Valentine then?
  7. The reason I looked at the last 23 games is because it's a larger period of time that actually might have some usage in trending what might happen as we go on. As does our season record. The point that you admit that is lost on you, is that what you're doing isn't realistic. You're looking through rose colored glasses, and I don't see the point. Why delude yourself into thinking this is a good team? I'm sorry, but I consider myself a realistic fan, not a cheerleader. Just because I'm a Cub fan doesn't mean I have to believe that they're good.
  8. states simply. 3-3 is a whole lot better then 0-6. I see improvement. It might be small but I see it. how about 1-3 in their last 4 games? You're picking arbitrary groups of games to make it seem like there's improvement...there's not.
  9. Has there been one post that said it was entirely Dusty's fault? Seems like you're arguing a point that no one else has even made. Yet, a majority of you are arguing he needs to be the guy fired right now? That sounds fair. If I thought there was a realitic possibility of Hendry being fired at the same time, I'd be all for it. Please look at my previous posts on the issue if you'd like. It shouldn't be hard to find. Most people arguing Dusty should be fired believe that Hendry should be too. But Hendry just got an extension last month. The chances of him being fired are next to nill. Dusty is the only realistic option at the moment of a firing that could actually take place, that could have any kind of positive impact on this ballclub. Again, this is not all Dusty fault. But he's a BIG factor, and shouldn't be kept just because other people screwed up too.

  11. Hold on a sec Scott. You were the one that brought up the record... So we can look at the past 6 games as long as it trends out nicely for the future (even if that turned out not to be the case)? But since looking back 23 games doesn't make things look as rosy, we're supposed to ignore it? Sorry buddy. Cubs-land is bleak right now. No need pretending that it's not. I'd be thrilled to be optimistic about this team, but right now there's very, very little to be optimistic about.
  12. srbin84, What makes you doubt that Jon is telling the truth? Your recollection is the only one that matters? That's crap.
  13. Where we don't agree, is that I think they should both be fired, and if Hendry isn't going to be fired, I still think Baker needs to go. Don't you think Baker had input on which players he wanted (ie: Small, speedy players)
  14. You don't think the players deserve any of this blame? Last time I checked, Baker or Hendry didn't hit, pitch, field or hustle. Last time I checked, Hendry was responsible for putting the players on the field, and Baker was brought in for the ability to "get the most out of his players".
  15. Right...but Lee was on the DL, so him coming onto the field at all is a problem.
  16. Dierker got the Astros to the playoffs every year that he was manager. Riggleman got a horrible Cubs team to a wild card berth.
  17. Actually, there were a lot of people that didn't want him to begin with truth be told. I'll admit I was ok with it at the time, but there are certainly many on here that can claim they were against the hiring before, not after the fact. Come on. No one is arguing that. No one. We want them fired because we don't think anyone, including Baker, can get this team to win this year. It's a crappy team built poorly and led poorly. We want them fired so we can win long term, not short term.
  18. Glendon Rusch - 2 yrs - $6 million - $1 million extra in performance bonuses (HA!)
  19. Albert is disinclined to consider this petty matter.
  20. Pretty sure it's been considered/discussed ad nauseum on this board. Some people believe that's the case. Some (like myself) don't. Difference of opinion on a topic that can't be factually proven. Not much more to be said on the topic IMO.
  21. I've never been a fan either, but if they are planning on Rusch taking Hill's spot, I'd rather see Jerome out there.
  22. Maybe you're a wuss too!! :D
  23. Who's accountable for the bench? Hendry? The guy that just got an extension?
  24. I think you assume to much with the Baker situation. All indications are from what we read in the newspapers, that Hendry is just waiting for the right opportunity to give Baker an extension. 4 wins in 19 games is apparently good enough. Who exactly has been held accountable so far? The Cubs are the 6th worst team in the majors. Other than a couple of bullpen guys being sent down, we have the same team that we started with. The players haven't been held responsible. Baker hasn't been held responsible. Hendry hasn't been held responsible. MacPhail hasn't been held responsible. And the Tribune obviously isn't being held responsible. Where exactly is someone being held accountable? Accountablility would be someone losing their job. In every normal workplace, if you are unable to perform your job adequately, someone who CAN do the job will be asked to step in and do it. That doesn't appear to be the case with the Cubs. People that are clearly unable to do the job are being allowed to continue to try and try and try, with no change in results. That's no accountability.
  25. Well since Theriot has hardly played, I bet they could manage to scrape by without him if they sent him down.
