  1. I gotta be honest...most of the time on big wins, I enjoy going back for the highlights on it. I'm not really sure I'm gonna enjoy the highlights of this game for long. Or even the series. Super happy that we won of course, but it was ugly enough that I don't feel a great need to rewatch.
  2. The number of times people run *hard* through home plate without sliding compared to how many times people run hard through first base pales in comparison though. It's probably literally 100x more common at 1st base, maybe twice that. Absolutely. Just saying that you'd think if that was much of a danger, you'd have seen it happen at home plate at some point. And maybe it has and I'm just not aware of it.
  3. On the running hard through first thing...I don't know that I've ever seen a player slip on home plate as they run home. Most of the time, they're cruising in, but there's plenty of cases where players have run hard through the plate and not slid.
  4. There's a lot of whining this morning about the replay on the pickoff call last night...that review is nitpicking this "coming off the bag for a split second" thing, and that that's bad...somehow. I think it's a bad argument, but I did see the suggestion that perhaps bases should be flat...in the ground, rather than raised. This would potentially help with sliding injuries, and would reduce the chance that you "bounce" off the bag sliding in. It might increase sliding "past" the bag, but is that a fair tradeoff for the reduction of injury? Might it make sliding into first base more acceptable? What's the downsides of this idea? Harder to find the bag if you're not looking at it as a fielder? Catchers manage it... Any other thoughts on this?
  5. I couldn't believe Joe put CJ in that game. The man needs about 3 days to get his mind right It was worth seeing if he could throw strikes. It wasn't like Joe put him in for long. Clearly Joe is frustrated with CJ too.
  6. Prior to game 5:
  7. Rondon is most likely coming back regardless. Last year we added an extra pitcher and dropped an offensive player going from the NLDS to the NLCS. I'd guess we saw Martin's last game in a Cubs uniform. Or they can drop Justin Wilson since Joe is only gonna use him in a total blowout.
  8. Bruce Arena resigned.
  9. Eh, it's probably the right move there, as Heyward has had success there, and what happened after was basicaaly none of Scherzers fault. Well...the HBP was...
  10. I think that is a mischaracterization of Lester's short rest outing. 55 pitches over parts of 4 innings in playoff atmosphere is not just an extended bullpen session. Short rest work is risky, back to back short rest outings is fraught with danger. Yeah, Lester's outing has to be treated like a full, short rest outing. Quintana's outing was much more of a "bullpen session".
  11. Why do so many people thunk the Cubs will starr Lackey? Quintana threw what amounted to a bullpen session, he'll be fine for Saturday. I just came to ask this. It's hilarious how many people say "the Cubs burned Quintana" when he only threw 12 pitches. He should be able to start either Saturday or Sunday.
  12. ROFL https://twitter.com/JATayler/status/918686090088910848
  13. The Cubs are gonna hit Kershaw. They aren't afraid of the Dodgers. They hit this team last year and they know they can do it again. I think they'll hit much better than they did vs the Nats.
  14. Lots of discussion about the passed ball/Baez bat hitting Weiters. The Nats and most baseball people think that this rule means that the ball should have been dead... But, that is clearly, to me, talking about a caught third strike. I don't think that rule is applicable to a passed ball/wild pitch situation. That was my thought reading the article this morning and then I saw Jerry Layne's comments which pretty much align with that... https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/nationals-journal/wp/2017/10/12/nationals-hurt-by-crucial-missed-call-in-do-or-die-nlds-game-5/?utm_term=.f9db9a51f822
  15. All of the GIPHY links you're using have a .webp suffix and they're not working. Weird...they work fine for me....but they don't if I just put the giphy link like usual....does this work?
  16. Way to call her a "bitch" in your excuse, champ. Ok ok ok ok...lets entertain this excuse for just one second. Why the hell did rando college football watching girl have this dude's phone? Why did she have the opportunity to have a conversation like this? Is that a thing people do? Let other people use their phone for extended periods of time? Is this not as weird to other people as it is to me?
  17. I don't think anyone was implying that Gio was garbage or anything. But he's also not Strasburg or Scherzer, so I think it's pretty reasonable to be optimistic in comparison.
  18. The Cubs won the World Series. People forget that.
  19. It's an old, inside joke referring to Kent Mercker. Explaining at this point would make little to no sense. But it's not referring to you in any way.
