  1. The pride of Washington, NC. Or, as people around here like to call it, "Little Washington", as if there were a bigger version right down the road that kept confusing everyone. I don't really have anything substantial to add, I just thought it's cool that he was born 10 miles from here. Hope he keeps it up - it's not like National fans have much else to cheer for.
  2. Those videos just made my day. I sent them to like 10 of my friends.
  3. Where the hell are you guys finding all these random pictures? Google image search has provided me with only mundane choices.
  4. Whoever/whatever made you, made your body tough for a reason. Maybe diving into a wall while playing baseball wasn't one of them, but there are certainly many other reasons for it. Really quite amazing what the human body can withstand. I am no MD so I won't diagnose. Just going from what I've experienced in the field... I think we have a couple MDs on this board and they could probably give you a more concrete answer. No, your answer is 100% understandable. I just think that we are programmed to the fact that when we watch someone run into a solid wall full speed head first - we expect the worst.
  5. Me too. I really thought I had just witnessed someone become a quadriplegic. It wouldn't have been that bad... the way he went in, his arms braced him (although minimally) and he went high which would be a lower cervical injury. If he would have tripped earlier and gone low... with the way his head twisted before impact, could have been an Atlas/Axis injury (First/Second Cervical Spines) which is noooo good. I may hate Ankiel with all my guts... but this always makes me sympathetic no matter who it is. Forgive my ignorance, but doesn't this page beg to differ? You may not live the rest of your days as a quadriplegic with a lower cervical injury - but lower cervical injuries are still very much a danger to the recipient. I have a very good friend whose mother was a quadriplegic so I know just how devastating C1 and C2 injuries are. But any spine injury has the potential to be devastating. ANY cervical spine injuries could be devastating... however, at that velocity he would have had to really torque at the right angle to damage the spinal cord (to cause paralysis). Usually, cervical spine injuries that cause paralysis are brought on by high velocity trauma like car accidents or football/hockey hits where two bodies are coming together at full speed. His collision was a body in motion against a body at rest which (if the C-Spine was not critically damaged) would cause more of concussion type symptoms and would elicit a full recovery. Fair enough. As a layman I just look at a guy running almost full speed into a wall head first and imagine that it could probably be devastating. But, it sounds like you've got a lot more knowledge than I do in this field so I will bow to your explanation. Either way, it sounds like he'll be OK and that's all that is important.
  6. It's not much of a different situation from Zambrano hustling over to cover first while pitching. He got on base and started a big rally. Plus, frankly, that was a perfect bunt. You can argue that a big man like him should be swinging away, but with the massively awkward swings he takes, it's a miracle he hasn't torn an obique muscle in his career. In my mind, there's not a whole lot worth arguing about with his bunt. This. It's the NL so he has to bat and run after the ball is batted. Who here doesn't think Z would have run that hard if it was a "swinging bunt" that happened to be in the same place? He's an athlete. He made an intelligent baseball decision and happened to get hurt. It's just bad luck and nothing more. Don't over-analyze the situation.

  8. Maybe we'll get lucky and face the computer-generated Linceum from the MLB 2K9 commercials. He shows up late for practice, listens to horrible 80's music, and needs to "put a towel" on (as far as the "big unit" is concerned). Sounds like we may have a chance against him.
  9. Well that's a relief, I'm glad he's OK.
  10. Yeah, just a really good pitch to Rowand. Borderline strike if he would have taken in my opinion.
  11. Howard slugged one tonight against the Cards \:D/
  12. Dempster pitches 7 strong innings, Bradley goes 2-4 with 2 doubles, and Fontenot hits a walk-off homerun. Cubs win 4-3. Everyone rejoices because baseball is fun again and completely forgets that they were 5 seconds from jumping off a bridge at the end of last week.
  13. mlb.tv just now caught up to the Lilly double lmao at that follow through
  14. Hey, whats this guy mean? I don't know but I like it. ;) Fair enough. Thanks
  15. It looks like Lee's trying to pull everything. He needs to start going the other way /hitting coach
  16. Wait, what? Maybe he literally picked it up and took it to the dugout to keep as a souvenir? :-k
