  1. ie. highly paid latin player who smiles a lot.
  2. Kinda funny that he'll only waive his 10/5 to play in NYC, LA or stay in Chicago. He badly wants a Top 3 market to sell that "good guy" image to. I guess he can pull off a lot of wacky shaving cream pies in the face for those YES Network cameras.
  3. I think he could provide utility to Texas in a package with Dempster or Garza. Soriano loved playing in Texas, so he would probably waive his NTC for them. He could platoon with David Murphy in left, or just provide a right hand bat as a DH or off the bench with Michael Young appearing washed up, Napoli regressing and Nellie Cruz always an injury in waiting.
  4. They also already have Leonys Martin in waiting to replace Hamilton.
  5. Dempster made sure the Dodgers had the Cubs over the barrel. There was hope something might change 3 or 4 days ago. As the deadline approaches the Cubs have to decide whether what little the Dodgers are offering is better than nothing.
  6. Ugh, even as a reliever Jay Jackson gives up way too many homers.
  7. Dempster didn't use his 10/5 rights because of Twitter or rumors, it was just his weaksauce excuse for his ultimate goal of going to the Dodgers. If a Dodger trade had broke on Twitter, Dempster wouldn't have cared in the least.
  8. Insisting that he absolutely had to be sold at a time when he clearly had very little value, for starters. It's hard to argue with that. I doubt that his value could have possibly gone any lower than it was when we traded him. Zambrano had no value then, and he has no value now. I haven't heard any rumors on Zambrano. Have you? Why would the Marlins trade him? They're getting 200 innings of an average starting pitcher for pennies.
  9. I think the Cubs will keep him around for another year and attempt to trade him again in 2013. I don't know why everyone assumes he's just going to use his 10/5 next year again in any potential trades. Dempster used his 10/5 under a unique circumstance in which he thought a team with his BFF were one of the front runners for his services. That unique circumstance probably won't duplicate itself next year. If Dempster ends up stuck on the Cubs, he'll badly regret that things worked out this way and he won't want to repeat this situation again.
  10. Insisting that he absolutely had to be sold at a time when he clearly had very little value, for starters.
  11. "He's President of Baseball Operations, but he plays no part in terrible decisions and has no responsibility for poor outcomes that befell the organization he runs. That Zambrano trade did royally suck the big one though." This is a fun game.
  12. "[expletive], WHY AM I STUCK WITH THIS TALENTED PITCHER?!?! OH, WOE IS ME." You're kidding yourself if you think he's not pissed about this turn of events. They were shopping him around because they wanted to, and now those efforts have been severely hindered. Exactly. I was mostly implying the whole Dempster ordeal which reported he was " furious" and " livid", but you know they were shopping Garza around looking for a huge haul with the extra year of control he had and now that's taken a huge hit. Not being able to trade Garza is more of an icing on the cake thing when it comes to the frustration. Dempster's move was the big blow. My frustration goes back even to the Zambrano for Chris Volsted trade after we ate almost all of the remaining contract. Thank God for the Rizzo trade.
  13. I'm not afraid to admit, I'm pretty disappointed in Theo. One of the biggest responsibilities of a front office of a bad team is to acquire potential talent in exchange for current assets not in the long term plans. As of now, the bottomline is that this front office has botched that pivotal job duty. Is it "bad luck" that Garza suffered an injury before the trade deadline? Maybe, but it also should be an always understood and acknowledged risk and possibility that should be considered and weighed as to the timing of pulling off a trade. I'm not sure how much pin I can blame on Theo for the Dempster fiasco, I just know in the bottomline world of results, the desired result probably isn't going to happen.
  14. According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution the Braves are now persuing Jon Lester and Shields, and of course Grienke.
  15. It's not like they were getting Dempster at some bargain basement steal that's too good to pass up. It's not going to take 2-3X Delgado to get Shields. And Dempster isn't that far above the Liriano tier, especially for 8 starts. Dempster says he doesn't want to play for them. and won't waive his 10/5. They have nothing else to do than take him at his word and look elsewhere.
  16. Braves are going to get Grienke or Shields. Dempster has already burned his bridges there, and he's at the very least already missed one start that he would have provided them when they were offering Delgado.
  17. I hope the Cubs retain him on the 1 year arby just to watch Theo give the most acerbic, sarcastic FU press conference while steam comes out of Dempster's ears. "You know, it's not often a veteran is so loyal to a franchise that he's willing to give up the final productive years of his career to a rebuilding team, but that's what Ryan has done for us here." and "It's so rare that any team has an opportunity to get a sub 3.00 ERA, 200 innings pitcher for just a one year commitment, so obviously for us this opportunity was just too good to pass up." Maybe throw in a couple of jabs about how he was "blindsided" that no one was willing to give Dempster a longterm payday.
  18. With just a few days away from the deadline, no one has time to waste. No MLB front office is going to look at the Braves being stood up at the alter and say "Yeah, I want some of that." If Texas wants pitching, they have more than enough ammo to land Grienke or Shields and stay well enough away from this fiasco.
  19. Yeah, I didn't say that. I said you and your angsty ilk were all were prematurely ejaculating doom, and I stand by it. I know, and thanks for inadvertently bringing the lulz then and now.
  20. He still will have his 10/5 rights....... Which he's only used because he thinks the Dodgers will pull the trigger for him this year and he'll get to join his BFF. The Dodgers obviously don't even want him much this year, much less after they address pitching in the offseason. Next year when the choice is going to Baltimore or staying persona non grata in Chicago, I'm betting he packs his bags and gets out of town.
  21. At this point keep Dempster and let karma play out. Dodgers get bounced in the first round of the playoffs thanks to bad pitching. Dempster's carefully crafted "good guy" image gets shredded for another year in Chicago after he has to take the 1 year of arb without the one final payday, and the Cubs ship him off to Kansas City or Baltimore at the trading deadline next year when no one else wants the primadonna.
  22. So the best the Cubs can get from the Dodgers is their AA reliever with the shredded shoulder, or some other equivalent of damaged goods? This is impossible. Castro's Spray Chart assured me that we were going to get a package the equal of, if not better, than Delgado, and then he was going to come and laugh at us for doubting his genius insight.
  23. Depends if you want Demp back for 12M/1yr. Personally, I do not. The risk of dangling an offer to quailify for draft-pick compensation to too risky in my mind...Demp could accept and then we'd have a 36YO SP and we'll be back here again next July. Like was mentioned, write a nice check to the Demp Fondation as a mind-changer. The Cubs are neither hindered by rotation space or money to spend, having the ability to keep Dempster around to deal him next year, or to use that threat to encourage a trade now, is definitely a good thing. Why would the Cubs want to go through this whole trade deadline thing with Dempster again next year? Why would it be any different than this year? A lot can change in a year. Dodgers might fill pitching needs in the offseason (or trading deadline), and won't be an option for Dempster next year.
  24. Jayson Stark was on Jonah Kerri's podcast yesterday, and Kerri asked him why there isn't more chatter about a Garza trade. Stark said that teams who are inquiring about Garza can't get assurances from the Cubs that Garza is going to pitch again before the deadline. Obviously, this is a hurdle in enticing a team to surrender a 4 piece package with a Top 20 prospect centerpiece.
