  1. The yo-yo values of Garza, Olt and Perez is pretty incredible roller coaster over the last 12-15 months. I've never been a huge fan of Perez, but a major league ready 22 year old lefty with that kind of stuff is a pretty good centerpiece for a 3 month rental of an injury prone pitcher.
  2. I'm guessing Perez will be the centerpiece, since the Rangers will have to clear out some spots with Ogondo, Lewis and Yu coming into the rotation in the next few weeks. After that, maybe some of the Hickory arms and Olt as a 3rd piece.
  3. I do like Alfaro, and minor league catchers are such a crapshoot that the Rangers may not blink at including him The nice thing about Alfaro is he projects to stick at catcher. I've never been a huge Perez fan even when he was loved by BA, but I do think he's shown better stuff this year since being called up (his last start not withstanding). He's not going to be a high strikeout pitcher, but when he's on his sinking fastball gets a ton of ground balls. And he's still 22. He reportedly has made a lot of improvement with his changeup. http://www.baseballanalytics.org/baseball-analytics-blog/2013/7/10/martin-perezs-changeup-the-real-deal.html
  4. Ogondo is set to rejoin their rotation after the All Star Break. Colby Lewis is about ready to begin rehab assignments in AA. And reportedly the only reason they put Darvish on the 15 DL because they wanted to keep him out of pitching in the All Star game, and with the break they could get him a lot of rest while only missing a start or two in the rotation. He's way high in avg. pitches per start, so they wanted to give his arm some time off as a precautionary matter.
  5. I will take Alfaro + Perez. I highly doubt the Rangers will have any interest in Soriano. They know first hand he's a gigantic lineup liability when he's not on a hot streak. They would probably prefer Sweeney.
  6. With the suspension of Cruz and Berkman's career going down the cliff, the Rangers also need a power righty bat as bad, if not worse, than starting pitching. This is ideally a time when Olt should be invaluable to their organization. Instead, if they're willing to discard Olt as a throw in while his value is at rock bottom, they must have a really bleak view of his longterm projection. The Rangers have been good as about anyone in talent scouting and development over the last few years.
  7. Javy and Arismendy with matching lines: 2-4, 2 singles, BB, K
  8. Everytime I bring up the Soriano trade possibility with Ranger fans I get instant groans. They saw him play enough first hand to know you're getting 2 weeks of a hot streak combined with months of being a gigantic liability in your lineup. Might be worth a lottery ticket flier if you're giving up almost nothing to see if he gets hot at the right time, but not someone you want to depend on for the next 3 months to solve your bat problems.
  9. Isn't it about time Almora got a Daytona callup? He's got 160 ABs and sleepwalking through A-.
  10. I was expecting at or maybe just slightly more than Appel. Not $400k more than Appel. Basically the value of a 4th round slot that could have been used on Clifton.
  11. If people were excited about a potential Martin Perez package from the Rangers, they should be doing handstands over Bauer.
  12. A Bauer package has to blow away a way the Dodgers likely offer.
  13. You are a very dull human if you think it is fun to watch the process that has been going on here. Holy hell, YES. The Plan, the Process, whatever we want to call it...it's tedious. I don't disagree. I am trying my best to invest the time in following the minors so that at least I get the awesomeness of seeing that type of thing come together and because it's the only way I can glean much fun out of the Cubs right now. I never followed before. It just sucks that it all has to take so [expletive] long (the player development stuff). I think I hit my rock bottom this week with daily checkups on possible 16 year old kid signings on the international market.
  14. Although I'd rather see him start his professional career sooner rather than later, the deadline is 7/12 (next Friday) so there is still time. Great, another week of missed at bats so Boras can attempt to justify his commission check.
  15. Speaking of which! Martin Perez or Leonys Martin would make me irrationally happy. Of course I'd be pretty happy with Roughned Odor as a secondary piece as well. I dunno, I think a lot of luster has worn off Martin Perez.

    Castro

Starlin with back to back multi-hit games after getting a mental health day. Maybe he's pulling out of the death spiral.
  17. Wonder how close Pierce Johnson is to making these midseason lists. You would think a supplemental first rounder who has made it up to AA in a year with his BB and K rates would be knocking on the door.
  18. Underwood: 3.2 IP, 3 ER, 6 hits, 2 BB, HBP, 3 Ks. According to the Hawks announcer, his stuff and velocity looked great but he was having problems with his command.
  19. Nice spot start for Wang. I'm starting to get a little excited about him as a possible bullpen arm.
  20. Maples with 7 BB in 2 innings.
  21. He doesn't sound like a signability issue.. Charcer Burks ‏@charcerburks 28 May This school is a prison. .... CJ Stewart @charcerburks What college have you signed with? Charcer Burks @AtBats it's a JC out in Waco, TX CJ Stewart @charcerburks Cool. You have some choices. Charcer Burks @AtBats yea I have a few and hopefully pretty soon there will be another option I can't pass up
  22. How soon before I can stop seeing the ubiquitous monosyllable names of bad pitchers like Burke, Kirk and Cates in the minor league box scores?
  23. MLB.com's best available is looking quite HS heavy at the moment.
