  1. FYI, they credited me back for six of the twelve tickets to the 4/21 Cards game. Well, at least that's better than them canceling both orders I guess.
  2. Another good decision by Lou. i'm suspicious of the reason why they will be sharing, though. murton needs to play everyday, lou! hendry, please, give jones away if you have to. If Hendry trades Jones and gets little to no value in return, the team is worse, no? Why would you want that? It's about wins and losses, no?
  3. 8 years with the same outfield. That probably never happened before free agency, let alone after. But, I suppose it could happen. At best I'm thinkin, 3-4 years. Murton is the type of guy you want to keep. Affordable and gives you good #'s. However I just see the Cubs org as the type that would trade him away, before a "jones" type FA which they'd have to pay $5-$10 mil. Hopefully that changes with Mcdunnough. Except you can't name the last time that the Cubs traded a young up and comer that played the first few years of his contract with the team after coming up with them. So, really, you don't have much a basis for the comment.
  4. Why is Izturis unlikely to improve?
  5. I think pretty much everyone here would agree that, unless someone is traded, it's best of all parties for Pie to start the season in AAA.
  6. He gave up a homer with the bases juiced Izzy with another hit so if the inning would have continued and more runs scored, would they be considered earned, as well? After the HR, because the HR is on Woody. He can give up 6 HRs in a row after their are two outs and an error and none of them will be earned runs.
  7. He gave up a homer with the bases juiced Izzy with another hit Woodchip is right. Any runs scored after there are two outs and there has been an error (where the guy didn't later get out) should be unearned.
  8. Except they offer no speed or defense and combine to block two of our best prospects. How exactly is Ward blocking anyone? Care to respond to my statements about what they actually CAN do? You know, something that has been definitively proven rather than merely hoped for? Well, Ward is blocking Cliff Floyd's spot on the bench for one...and looking at these guys' recent history I don't see them as any more proven than top AAA talent. They wouldn't be hanging on if it weren't for experience. Please stop. You have no point.
  9. I'm surprised he's not blaming the Cubs defense for that. Nice one! I've been sour on him since he took that shot at the Cubs. I forget. What did he say?

  11. I was really hoping either he or Cliff Floyd would do for us what Grissom did last year. Why? Why do some people act like these two are weighing down the team or something? Have you forgotten that Floyd hit 34 bombs just two years ago? Or that Ward had an OPS of over 1.000 against righties last year? How does letting them go make the team any better? Because it would make the Cubs younger?
  12. Mini-update on how they are handling purchases over the alloted limits: My buddy bought 12 bleacher tickets to the first Saturday game against the Reds and they just credited his checking account for 6 of them. So, it looks like they aren't canceling the entire orders at least.
  13. I agree and that seems to be the stumbling block. Of course a trade for a good SS involving Jones and Izturis would be perfect. Who's even out there that would be an upgrade at SS other than ARod? How about Jorge Cantu for the Devil Rays? We could move DeRosa over to SS. The last thing that the D-rays need is another OF.
  14. so basically, other than being easy to hit he was pretty good? also, he sucked hard in 2002 and 2003. It's not about how many hits you give up. It's about how many runs you give up. ...and runs come from hits and walks (aka whip). Runs are tracked by ERA, not by WHIP. WHIP is a nice little ancillary stat, but ERA is much more important. It's not that different than football. What do you care more about? How many points you gave up or how many yards? and typically a guy who gives up a bunch of hits gives up a bunch of runs. and teams that give up a bunch of yards give up a bunch of points. pitchers and football teams can both get lucky. And is there any other possible explanation for a team that gives up a lot of yards but not a lot of points? Or a pitcher who gives up a lot of hits but not a lot of runs? Any other possible explanation? Like maybe the defense that a football team employs is a "bend but don't break" type that becomes increasingly more difficult as the offense nears the red zone? Or a pitcher who induces a high number of double play balls to partially offset the high number of hits he gives up? Possibly? Or is it all just luck?

While his pitching style will give up more hits than I'm sure we would all like, it will also induce more double plays. I agree that his WHIP and BAA are higher than I would like to see, but his propensity to induce double plays partially offsets those negatives.
  17. Don't some posters realize the hypocrisy in their statements where they tell others to not get excited about and judge a player based on his best year, and yet turn around and rip Marquis apart mostly because of his horrible year last year? Aside from a rather high WHIP, he pitched pretty well in 2004 and 2005.
  18. Is there sarcasm here that I am missing?
  19. When he's right, he'll make the Cubs infield very busy. Let's hope he's "right" more often than he was last year. If he gets to his 2004 and 2005 level, his deal will be about right. If.
  20. Is Marmol going to be worked exclusively at closer at Iowa or will he be in the rotation? Because if it's the latter, I think he is more likely to get the call than Mateo. Honestly, I don't see much in Mateo. And yes, I've thought this prior to Sunday's game against the Sox.
  21. Does anyone know how fast the announcers said Prior was throwing?
  22. I doubt this has anything to do with Girardi.
