  1. Link If this kid pitches 1 pitch in MLB, that's a good trade for Hendry. God, the Orioles love taking our trash. Just imagine if they would have taken Prior for Tejada and/or Bedard.
  2. Does that count as breaking the Cubs HR drought?
  3. Every team needs an All Star representative. Stupid rule? Yes Stupid pick? Not necessarily. He really saved LaRussa's a** from having to play Pujols at 3rd due to Cabrera's injury. Although I think Nady was more "deserving" as the only Pirate. Him or Gorzellany
  4. 2003 called... it wants its drama back. Hopefully a surprise Zambrano contract extension wipes this story off of the Cubs headlines for tomorrow.
  5. See, if this was , that would be correct. But, as someone has already pointed out, the marketing and attendance dollars that Ichiro brings in probably make this contract about even for the Mariners, if not a good deal. They have probably made more money off of him over his first 6? years than he will make in salary for his entire career. That being said, I don't know which contract is worse in a strictly baseball sense, Ichiro or Soriano (due to length only)?
  6. If he doesn't sign with the Cubs I hope he signs with the Red Sox for the league minimum just to pissoff every single Yankee fan. Fixed[/b]
  7. Please everyone, don't vote for Carlos Zambrano in the 26th man vote. Although he has all-star talent, he simply doesn't deserve a spot on that team over the rest of the people on that list. The fact that LaRussa even put him on the list is pretty much a joke and plays up the "Joe Morgan wins are everything despite a brutal ERA bandwagon" and frankly, that's terrible. I know we all hate Chris Young right now, but he has had twice the season that Carlos has. If you are a real baseball fan and want to see the best players in the game, vote for him. If Z gets voted in, it would be just another reason why Cubs fans look like morons. Hopefully Z can be inspired to win the World Series MVP or something like that instead.
  8. DFA Izturis Call up Cedeno. Say the Cubs play 6 games/week. In those 6 games, there are a total of 24 games between 2B, SS, 3B, and RF. Here's what you do: Play Fontenot 5 out of 6 games at 2B Play DeRosa 4 out of 6 games at RF, or 3B (1 3B, 3 RF) Play Cedeno 4 out of 6 games at SS Play Ramirez 5 out of 6 games at 3B (other one is DeRosa) Play Floyd 3 out of 6 games in RF Play Theriot 3 out of 6 games at 2B and SS (2 at SS, 1 at 2B) Done and done. Floyd might bitch a little bit, but he'll probably pinch hit in every game. Pagan might lose some playing time here, but if Pie continues to bat .200, he could pick up a few more at bats in CF. You could give DeRosa some 2B time to stay sharp also.
  9. I think his ceiling is a lights out-dominant closer. With a more likely outcome being a very consistent closer who is slightly above the league average in all closer metrics (Whip, k/9, BAA, etc...)
  10. Because he has been playing 1B a lot this season due to a shoulder "issue". The organization is downplaying it, but he would be the starting catcher right now if he was really healthy. He's raking, his arby clock is already started, and he is pretty decent on defense. By the way, how sweet of a name is Geovany Soto. Like he should be a sommelier or some sort of politician. Good times.
  11. I really don't know how people are hard core about Soccer. It's a great sport to play, but watching it is really brutal unless you are hammered and chanting about god knows what during games. That being said, how is the new Fire stadium in Bridgeview?
  12. 1. Game 1 NLCS 9th inning HR 2. 60-62 off hapless Brewers pitching. They could have tried to intentionally walk him every time up in 98, but he would have somehow still homered off of them. 3. And, for some reason, in 2001, he hit an inside the park HR vs. the Pirates on a late September Saturday after the Cubs were eliminated. The team had nothing to play for, but he was still out there carrying them. He had 164 RBI that year and he earned every one of them. For everyone who got on him about leaving the last day in 2004, realize that was a once in a career type thing. The only time I can honestly remember when Sammy wasn't giving 100%.
  13. I would be willing to bet that the Orioles win 90 games before the Cubs do now that Girardi is around and they are going to have to make a HUGE free agent splash because they are losing fans to the Nationals and their new stadium opening next year. I hate the Cubs...and Lou Piniella.
  14. Cubs have at least 5 automatic outs in the lineup now that Cesar used up his hit for the week. Pie, Cesar, Hill, Theriot, Jock Sweet trade Hendry...
  15. It's time for a glorious return to the White Sox for Mr. Hernandez...just in time to be smacked around by the Cubs this weekend.
  16. As the Rangers' announcer said, he was Marmolous. I don't put quotes in my signature, but if no one has already claimed it, I would like to be the (or one of the) founder of the Carlos Marmol BandWGN. This guy is ridiculous. I say after Dempster closes out the final out of the 2008 World Series for the Cubs, let him ride off into the Canadian sunset and make Marmol the closer for years to come...
  17. You do realize that every time a middle reliever gives up a tying run that he's given a blown save, right? Linebrink has never been a primary closer for more than a day or two when Hoffman needs rest. Either way, someone please explain to me how much impact Linebrink can have on our team except for taking innings from younger, cheaper options such as Wuertz and Carlos "The Hammer" Marmol...
  18. Ty Griffin Earl Cunningham Lance Dickson Man, when I was a kid, I thought those 3 autographs were going to be something I could tell my grandkids about. Now, they're just small pieces of toilet paper.
  19. Soriano LF Pie CF Lee 1B Ramirez 3B Floyd RF DeRosa 2B Barrett C Theriot SS Bench: Pagan (PR & defense for Floyd late) Ward (PH only) Fontenot (2B sometimes--would bat 7th and Barrett goes to 6th) Blanco (bad contract or Hill would be in this spot) Izturis (because we're stuck with him, this is Cedeno next yr) AAA: Murton--he's useless as a pinch hitter/bench player because he's slower than Pagan and his defense sucks and he "presses" when he pinch hits. Better to let him get at bats and become trade bait in the minors. Working at Taco Bell: Jones
  20. This will be the: Shortest. Thread. Ever. We Suck! :(
  21. I know we are not supposed to pencil these kids in for the future since its such an inexact science, but why would we choose a HS kid who plays 3B (and only hit .371 in HS--which isn't that great) when we have Aramis there for AT LEAST 4 more years after this one and hopefully 10 more after that when he is on his way to the HOF. Why not go after a college catcher in Wieters who is a switch hitter (satisfying Hendry's man-love for LH bat) and would be ready in 2 years or so? Barrett is probably not a long-term Cub, Blanco isn't the answer, and Hill and Soto will be Blanco-like in their careers if they're lucky.
  22. I don't believe their 15-9 record with Pie in the lineup is a coincidence, no question they're a better team with him in the lineup. Do you believe he's going to remain in CF - including vs a LHP - for the rest of the season? I think he will play about 6 out of 7 games. If there's an extremely tough lefty on tap, Lou might give Pagan his token playing time. However, if Pagan is sent down and Murton is kept up, I would imagine the OF vs. tough lefties will be Soriano, Pie, and Murton, with Pie playing every single day.
  23. Agreed. I don't think it will be broken anytime soon especially considering how up and down a lot of relievers can be. If I had to bet on a guy to break the record, I would go with Francisco Rodriguez. Unless the record is "Most Horrific Arm Injury Ever," then I would have to eliminate K-Rod from the running. I mean, seriously, doesn't that guy have to tear something soon? I would nominate Papelbon from the Red Sox, but they seem intent on having him start at some point, so who knows.
  24. ...looks like he could throw it through a brick wall on every pitch. Has he ever had any major surgeries before? If not, his delivery seems tailor made for an elbow injury soon. Also, anyone think that this guy would be made the closer if we are eliminated in the next month or so (why can't we be in a hard division so the management would realize we suck)?
  25. To quote Rob Schneider from "The Waterboy": "Oh No, We Suck Again". Good thing another season is over before Memorial Day. If we were in any other division, we would be about 15 games out. Bob Howry and Will Ohman can rot in hell.
