  1. Haha...good one It'll be intersting to see if DLEE is out for a period of time if the Cubs try to get Choi from Boston? If I remember right didn't Choi have a good glove? No, not really. He projected to be a pretty good defender in the minors, but never really developed that part of his game. BP has him slightly above average for his career, so does PMR(2005 season). Hey, TT, The Farns was lights out ystdy vs. the Blue Jays in the NYFY 3-1 win. He worked 2/3 of the 8th and was hitting 97 on the scoreboard Juggs. He didn't look quite as Superman-like in pinstripes though.....
  2. This rumor causes me to shudder in disbelief
  3. Go Cubs.......Mulder scares me...I sense a big year for him...ugh...regardless we will win...Go Cubs !
  4. We've done that a few times, and I think ALbert has gone yard on us almost every one of them. Chin music doesn't seem to faze him much. Agreed...Chin Music seems to unleash an even bigger beast within Pujols...no need to wake him up even more
  5. Looking past tonight's game the Cubs have a weekend series in St.Louis coming up. After last night Pujols has walked 14 times in 14 games. Obviously, the Cubs handled him in their series sweep and he walked only twice. Unfortunately, Mr. Pujols is kinda hot right now with dingers in 4 straight games. Any thoughts on what the Cubs should do this weekend....pitch around, use the dreaded IBB ( ie. give him the Bonds treatment) etc. IMHO, I would take the bat out of his hands but I'm not sure Dusty will. Thoughts ?
  6. Geez, I was at the Blue Jays vs. Yankees tilt last night night watching the Jays pound Randy Johnson....I was hustling home to watch the Cubs game but stopped at a bar so as not to miss too much.... Couldn't hear the play-by-play....so he gave a shout-out.....phenomenal... And when I got home the site was down....so his shout-out crashed the site ?......thats a double wow...
  7. Being a history/stats geek this maybe something that only interests me but today is the 25th anniversary of the longest game in professional baseball history. The Washington Post has an article on it today. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/04/17/AR2006041701586.html It was between the Rochester Red Wings and the Pawtucket Red Sox. Here is the final scoreboard : http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/graphic/2006/04/18/GR2006041800104.html A couple of notables : Cal Ripken Jr. was the 20 yr old 3rd baseman for Rochester and went 2 for 13. Wade Boggs played 3rd for Pawtucket....didn't see his stat line. Bobby Ojeda was the winner. One funny/odd note I saw, Rochester catcher Dave Huppert ( don't know him) caught 31 straight innings before being pinch-hit for in the 32nd inning. In total 25 players in this game played in the majors...obviously with varying degrees of success
  8. I've heard simulated beer is quite stale. I would stay away, even if it costs zero simulated dollars. I hear ya.....plus I don't really need a simulated hangover....
  9. I don't know.... but I think it was scheduled for the afternoon when the schedules first came out. I hear ya....I thought the idea was to have afternoon games early in the season when the temp is a little more favourable...particularly in the Northeast...oh well BTW----great stats Fred....they are freaking awesome.
  10. How much are simulated tickets ? I would probably pay 50 simulated dollars but zero simulated dollars for simulated beer.
  11. Why is this game not an afternoon start ?
  12. I don't buy the '98 thing anymore than I buy anything else. Why should any of us believe ANYTHING, at this point? McGwire has been severely scrutinized. During the Andro thing, he was the ONLY one being scrutinized, and it hadn't even been shown that he had done anything wrong. Had he stayed in the game, I'm guessing that he'd be catching ALOT of heat right now. It wasn't worth it to him. Apparently it IS worth it to Bonds, because he chooses to keep himself in the spotlight. That is a valid point you make. Bonds' ego can't allow him to just walk away. I give McGwire credit for that. You are right that if McGwire were still playing he would be "catching ALOT of heat". Agreed
  13. McGwire left the game, and was STILL scurinized by a Congressional lynch mob and the general public. Leave the guy alone. He's retired. So if Bonds retires they should just leave him alone? McGwire didn't perjure himself, that I'm aware of. He (McGwire) has, however, been scrutinized plenty. I have to respectfully disagree w/ you on McGwire. IMHO, he was giving a huge free pass by the media until just recently...ie. since the Congressional hearings. I believe McGwire is an even bigger fraud than Bonds. He was a one-dimensional ballplayer. As much as one can hate Bonds he did win 3 MVP's prior to '98 when he allegedly started juicing. "Allegedly"? What the heck does that mean? Nobody knows when he started using, anymore than they know when (if) McGwire started using. It's all your imagination. As for McGwire not being scrutinized until after the Congressional hearings, I don't recall ANYBODY being scrutinized, do you? Slow down a minute and read your own post. You wrote that McGwire has been "scrutinized plenty". And I'm not imagining anything but "allegedly" is what it is. Bonds has allegedly used steriods. I know what I posted. McGwire HAS been scrutinized. Heck....... he was scrutinized for things that didn't even BREAK the rules (Andro). You've completely forgotten that? Then he was scrutinized ruthlessly (and still is) about the Congressional hearings. Who is "Alleging" that Bonds just starting using steroids in '98, and why would you buy into anything that's "alleged" at this point? In no way shape or form am I defending Bonds. The court of public opinion has already come to a verdict on him. So be it. But McGwire never had a witch-hunt going on around him when the "andro" situation arose. He just packed up his little bag and left the game. Unfortunately Bonds hasn't done that. The recent book by the SanFran Chronicle reporters stated that Bonds starting using the juice '98 for a variety of reasons one of which was jealousy about the attention McGwire got. Again, I am not defending Bonds but this is a witch-hunt about ONE man, Bonds. It smacks of McCarthy-ism in the '50's re:communists. There was no such public uproar surrounding McGwire....and he is a fraud....or maybe he is an "alleged" fraud...

  17. Coffee just spewed all over my computer screen......
  18. seconded Thirded. Agreed...or is that Foured or Fourthed.....plus I would require each team to have one day/night doubleheader per year.......please make a doubleheader mandatory.........
  19. Damn, that is a classic Wish I had come with that one.
  20. My apologies if this topic has already been discussed but has NSBB come up with a consensus nickname for our new leadoff man. I kinda like Slappy as a nickname for him but I believe more than a few BRS fans call A-Rod that amongst other things. Just thot I would ask for some feedback.....thanks.
  21. I like your call....although IMO, Pierre gets 2 stolen bags as he will walk twice....i think Cedeno might get bagels though....hope i'm wrong. Cubs win 5-2 Has Pierre ever walked twice in one game?[/quote Just 4 times last year but the first time was the 3rd game of the year vs. Atlanta....then 3 other times vs. Rockies, SF and Cincy...

  23. I lived in Conneticut for 6 yrs so I went to Fenway, Yankee St. and Shea St. numerous times. Fenway is great. Great fans and hecklers. The subway ride is hilarious after wins. Yankee St. is very over-rated IMO. People dont really watch the game. The only good time I've had there is in the right field bleachers when they go thru the opening line-up in the 1st inning. Shea St. I actually like but then again I always drank too much when I was there. I still like Wrigley above all. This summer I plan on seeing the Cubs play in Cleveland at the Jake and in Cincy but after reading other posters it sounds like Pitt might be a better place than Cincy to got to. The PNC does look good on TV and obviously tickets are pretty easy to come by. Are there restaurants/bars right next to the park ?
