  1. 2007 Ryan Dempster says hello. It was hardly the worst, but it was pretty bad. In a single outing, giving up two bombs and loading the bases in ~8 minutes is about as badly as you can possibly do.
  2. Proabably the worst closer outing I've seen in a decade.
  3. Time of death: 7:56PM Friday, May 8th 2009 See you next year, Cubs.
  4. That's it, the Cubs are finished. This whole season was taken right out of the players' hands.
  5. Kevin Gregg is wearing thin on me quickly, and Theriot just did a real bad job on defense all damn day.
  6. The Cubs suck. They must think its the playoffs already. Disgusting.
  7. Wait a minute, here. I hate Ryan Braun, and its nice to see such brutal acting and everything that involves him. I think he's a douchebag who will tarnish his career with some fool notion that taking walks in big situations is for "non-RBI guys" like him. He looks like a fish, and his interviews are just painful to listen to. Thank you, Aramis Fan, for showing us this little bit of garbage from Mr. Braun. Back to your regularly scheduled witch hunt...
  8. Blech, you aren't any fun.
  9. SD offered Fukudome more money than we did. Then it was just meant to be, I guess.
  10. In the post-game interview, Lou interrupted a question about Fukudome, saying he didn't want to hear any more about Fukudome. Said the kid is struggling and he'll put Reed Johnson or Fontenot out there, and that there was no reason to put him out there anymore. Maybe its time to look to Japan again, Kosuke. Some guys just can't hack it. Edited to add quote: "Yeah, you know what, ugh, from now on I don't want to hear about Fukudome anymore as far as whether he's going to play or not. I'm gonna play Fontenot or Reed Johnson or somebody else and that's the end of that story. The kid's struggling and there's no sense in sending him out there anymore."
  11. Because Selig is an incompetent commissioner. I really wish they could get someone like the NFL had with Tagliabue. The NFL makes timely decisions, and it also isn't dominated by the big market teams like MLB usually is. The NFL also holds their refs accountable, while it takes an act of God before MLB will do the same with their umps. MLB's fan base is also dwindling compared to the NBA or NFL over the last 10 years. I like baseball better, but even as a baseball homer, I can't help but recognize that the NFL is a far superior product and a better run league when compared to MLB. I don't see how anyone could view Selig's tenure as anything short of a complete and total disaster. Yet, the owners love him. I don't understand. I know this one. Money. Ticket sales are through the roof, merchandise is as good as its been, and the owners' cup runneth over. The fans and media get hosed by Selig, but the owners are bathing in profit. He's the Gene Upshaw of the Owners' "Union".
  12. I believe the best way to win the WS is to maximize your appearances in the playoffs. Given that you have a team that even remotely belongs (not the 2006? cardinals), you try to make it 3-5 years in a row with a surge of players. Ridding ourselves of the Brewers, or injuring their financials increases our chances of winning a postseason bid. Sure, I want to win this year, but we really can't expect any one year shot to pan out at a rate that is acceptable. I choose the longer term benefit.
  13. I guess I'm not being clear. I wanted to put a non-regular starter out there. Marshall fit this bill, and he didn't go all that long (5 innings). Then we played Gaudin and Hart, who aren't our top relievers, or even close. If we throw a normal starter, we'd probably get a few more innings and have a decent chance to win. Additionally, I think the Cubs want the Brewers out of the playoffs to hurt their bottom line for the year. I am all for this, and its the topic of the thread.
  14. Yeah, Marshall was being knocked around all night...wait, what? He went 5, left with the game tied, and allows us to use a lot of our weaker bullpen guys. I believe the Cubs have little invested in this game, which I agree with. Or were you simply here to use a little sarcasm?
  15. We went with Marshall against the Mets tonight, and its already costing us. Losing these games is better for us than winning them. Its an investment for the future.
  16. This year is different. We are not the flawed teams of yore. That's not to say we aren't vulernable, and we certainly could lose in the first round if everything goes wrong, but this team inspires more confidence than any we've had, IMO. I don't think we'll be kicked in the crotch this year, especially because we have this team all over again next year.
  17. With the Brewers operating at a loss this season monetarily, we have an interesting opportunity to bury this franchise for years to come if we can dominate them in the next season. My understanding is that the Brewers are about 10m in the hole without playoff revenue. In Sabathia, Sheets, and Gagne, they have about 25 mil coming off the books. However, 10m to pay off this years shortfall plus another 10m off to return to a financially feasible payroll gives you a Brewers roster with ~5m to play with and Yovanni Gallardo instead of Sheets and Sabathia. This ignores the talk about picking up Cameron's option, as well. If we can hammer the Brew Crew from the playoffs this season, we may completely remove them from competitive consideration for several years to come. Its worth it to play 110% against them, isn't it? We will have an easier time making the postseason in the future if we can fight only the cards instead of both teams each year. Would you start all your horses to try and kill them off?
  18. i'd rather the cubs do nothing today than against the brewers. We also got away with not having a Marquis start during that series. Not a coincidence.
