  1. Murton would take the walk... Nevermind, stupid idea. Leave him on the bench. Does he even get to dress for games all the time?
  2. /sigh I hope he comes back, but I've left him in the Cubs' past for now.
  3. I'm not going to read all 19 pages, again. But I'm not sure a less true statement has been made in this thread. And that's saying something. I'd say thank God that he's not GM or manager, but he actually is. That is the type of management that leads to 99 years of losing big.
  4. Rampant mismanagement will cost us this whole season, and a few future ones as the front office makes more knee jerk signings in the offseason to overpay aging veterans.
  5. I guess the manager really never mattered when you have a pathetic GM running the show.. I hear that.
  6. Lou Piniella = Colossal failure as manager of the Cubs who duped everyone waxing poetic about midgets who can walk and Murton in the 2 hole.
  7. Theriot is the coach's kid. He plays everyday, but this argument is about Murton. Matt's second half numbers last year, which is coincidentally the numbers that the Cubs are going on for reason to play Jones, were tremendous out of any OBP driven player at .320/.392/.527/.919 after the ASB. Yeah, you're wrong Warren. This guy is the answer to the Cubs biggest problem, in OBP, and we're ruining his career instead. This year he's 0-10 pinch hitting, yet he has been inserted time and time again. Lou is a worse manager than Dusty Baker so far. Playing Izturis and Cedeno is worse than Neifi, as the Neifster hits about .100 points higher than Cedeno and .060 higher than Izturis. He's done less with much much more in a weaker division. Dusty Baker was 12-7 IIRC. Sweet Lou is a cool 7-13 now.
  8. Last night was embarrassing watching everyone fall down swinging for the fences in extras. Turnbow owned them Wuertz style, and it was ugly. We suck, Lou sucks, Lee can't hit bombs anymore, Izturis and Cedeno are automatic outs, Floyd isn't hitting well, etc, etc, etc... Is it Illini football season yet?
  9. Crap, you just made me hate Theriot. Thanks.
  10. God that scares me so much. Lou has turned out to be atrocious at handling Murton just as Dusty was.
  11. OMG I hate Lou. MURTON IS NOT A PINCH HITTER YOU DICKHOLE. GOD D***** IT. YOU ARE THE WORST MANAGER EVER. GIVE ME ANYONE ELSE.
  12. Blanco with the Cardinals Hit*. Cardinals Hit = Dumping the ball just over the IF in front of the OF. Oh, and Izturis is the worst player in baseball.
  13. Are you kidding me. What a piece of crap Blanco is when he's not producing defensively.
  14. Great. At least he's challenging guys. None of this walk 8 dudes monkeying around with strikeouts even though we're up 5.
  15. The Brewers play by play is dumber than holy hell. He has now said Carlos Lee twice instead of Derrek. The second time he actually said, "Derrek-excuse me, Carlos Lee with an RBI double." They've also spent the entire game whining about Zambrano's comments.
  16. And that's why you don't run with Aramis up, Lou. God, you're dumb.
  17. Floyd also smoked about 4-5 line drives that just happened to find defenders instead of going for base hits. Luck affects small sample sizes a lot. It's better to just use your eyes in cases like this. Floyd looked pretty bad in his last couple of games though, taking some real ugly swings. Murton will outplay Floyd given the ABs. I don't doubt that at all. I agree with all of this. Somehow, I don't think Lou or Hendry do.
  18. Do you think they chain Murton to a corner when they refuse to play him against all wisdom?
  19. Murton has tatooed some balls, it just so happens that they were outs. He has spanked some liners right at the LF and RF, and SS as well. His PH yesterday would have been a hit if it wasn't right at Miles. All his lasers are outs so far, and he doesn't lift the ball much, so unless he tags it perfectly, its probably not going out. If you want to whine that his BABIP is too high, and that he has no power, consider that every potential 2B has been poorly placed. Also, the arguement about playing Murton over Floyd if they are both equal makes a lot of sense.
  20. These men are no longer part of the Chicago Cubs. They are a scourge on our once bright future. I say we expect less than nothing, and maybe someday they'll save your dog from a burning building or something.
  21. Not so fast. I would agree with small sample size if we were putting the best players on the field and playing them in a manner that made any sense. For example, letting Ronny hit in the 10th yesterday was atrocious. Playing Floyd continuously is equally as egregious. Putting DeRosa in the OF and hoping for the best is also a problem. Starting Wade Miller ever is another terrible sin, as is using Will Ohman when up or down by less than 5 runs. The truth is that our team isn't very good at all when its mismanaged in this fashion, and the boat is not about to turn around anytime soon as long as piss poor personnel decisions are being made.
  22. where is it being argued that murton is a superstar? we're arguing that he's better than floyd (who has average to below average speed and certainly below average defense now, as well). Some on this board think that he is a superstar but point taken. Those things also do not make a "good" player. It makes an average player, which is what he is. I haven't seen anyone declare him a superstar. He has been an average player to this point, and he might never have the power to be an above average left fielder. But on a team that is as OBP-starved as ours has been, it would be nice to stick Murton in the OF and 2 spot for the rest of the year. Like I said earlier I think he should be getting the majority of the starts and the two hole would be the spot. I'd just like to quit seeing a rotating outfield at this point. Settle on something and be done with it Lou. Nice reversal of opinion after getting called on your statement. In the space of a few posts he's gone from below average to deserving the majority of starts. Hmmm...
  23. Every bad outing is being used to sit him, whilst the better ones seem to earn him one start. Either that, or Murton is just a bench player/pinch hitter on the team this year. The way it appears, Murton will only get to play if he has a multi-hit game on the previous day, or if Floyd can't stand up from the dugout. Even DeRosa is now ahead of Murton on the depth chart. This approach by our manager creates an environment where a young player has one AB a game in bigtime circumstances against a pitcher he's never seen. In that situation, I'd be pressing, which is exactly what Murton is doing. We have all seen what Murton is capable of when given consistent starts, and know also that he will get better. However, with the current strategy in the clubhouse, Murton's career may only be jumpstarted by the inevitable injury to Cliff Floyd. Right now a young player who could be very good is being buried.
