  1. That might be ok with the Cubs, maybe the Walker at 1st thing is a trial period. What can be said for acquiring a 2B instead of 1B?
  2. Not much to say about Mabry being in. Hasn't Murton played every game? And I've seen plenty of Freddie Bynum already.
  3. I have $40 on the Cubbies today at +102
  4. I never said he's a bad influence, I said I'm tired of his mouth. It seems every time there's a quote in the papers, it's from ol' Todd. Your opinion is worth more when you don't offer it every day. And while he shouldn't flat lie if the team is performing badly, saying we flat out suck can rub some players the wrong way who feel they are putting in 100% effort.
  5. What attitude? What attitude? He has a big, fat mouth, and has been traded numerous times.
  6. For one thing, a game is won on grass not paper. Secondly, neither Walker or Wilson are exceptional and earning walks.
  7. While I don't support a trade for Matos or other marginal players, I don't want Walker starting either. Half the time you're on the field, you're playing defense. All of our pitching except Maddux throws a lot of groundballs, as well. I'm tired of Walker's attitude, lax defense, and my candidate for starting and for the #2 hole is Hairston Jr., who is hitting the cover off the ball in ST. Pierre-Hairston is a lot of contact and speed at the top of the order.
  8. I respect some of the other opinions, but to me, it comes down to Will Carroll and Steve Stone being right, like always, and the Cubs being wrong, like always. The past repeats itself.
  9. Pretty hot too. My girlfriend thinks he is the ugliest Cub on the team. "He looks so angry".
  10. Simple, ain't it? I guess so. I wouldn't mind if the Cubs tried out some spring training BB hats. Or even RISP hats. I also enjoy the "matte" Japanese helmets. Bonus points for the 3-D "Japan" logo.
  11. Simple, ain't it?
  12. Yes, yes he is. :D
  13. I love this. This is the crux of the stats vs. convential wisdom arguement. CW: Hey you showed me some data that proves your point but I don't like it. So it proves nothing. ST: But the numbers don't lie. CW: So what? I don't like them so you can stop using them. I'll keep my uninformed opinion thank you. That is a ridiculous statement and somewhat offensive. Not only are you wrong, but you're personally attacking him by saying he's uninformed because he doesn't agree with you.
  14. Anybody can take stats to prove their point. You are taking Jones last years stats expecting him to NOT improve over last year. I like Walker too, but let's not "spin" stats please. . I don't see how those stats are "spun" at all. Well, 2005 was an above average year for Walker and a below average year for Jones. I would still agree that Walker should be the 2B next year, but I don't see what Jacque has to with this. I agree with you on both points. Assuming Todd is a starting Cub (400+ AB's at least) - I would guess a line of around 280/320/420 with maybe 12 dongs and 60 RBI. I don't think his defense is that great, either. Graffanino, although limited in starting full-time experience, could put up a 280/350/400 line and put down some bunts or use better situational hitting. As far as Jones goes, he is coming from a team where he was counted on offensively, in a terrible ballpark - and coming to Wrigley, energized, and ready to go. I expect around 270/310/450 with 20-25 HR and 80-90 RBI with stellar defense.
  15. How can you say that, if the players respect the coach? (hypothetically) Isn't the players opinion of his manager more important than ours?
  16. You're jumping to the conclusion the Cubs are still telling you the truth.
  17. He hit over 300 as a PH and can play numerous positions. However, this leaves the Sox with a curious seven infielders.
  18. Like I said before, he just doesn't fit their plans. I still look for him to be moved, and Hairston or Graffanino starting the opener at 2nd for us.
  19. I was unaware he took a paycut, that does kind of put a hole in this possibility. But it wasn't just the Cubs scouting him, it was a few teams, so there has to be some truth to it.
  20. Why would we need another pitcher? He's a decent pitcher but I don't see him being any better than Miller and marginally better than J Will. But with Prior and Wood... Anyway, I have read a few places this is definitely happening, as well as us looking at Graffanino. Here is a blurb from the Boston Globe on it: Boston Globe: "Arroyo drew a crowd of scouts yesterday in Boston's 7-6 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates at City of Palms Park, including some from the Rangers, Braves, Reds, Cubs, and Brewers."
  21. [/i] Everyone has a right to an opinion, and this is the internet afterall. And since myself and the person in this world I know most both did have this procedure, and it wasnt minor. Sorry, its just from personal experience, where my opinion is formed.
  22. Something has to be said for the Cubs wanting a true #2 hitter that can bunt and play smart baseball out of the two hole. Yea, Walker is a better-by-numbers offensive talent, but he can't do the fundamentals (including defense) that the Cubs are looking for. Stats aren't EVERYTHING.
  23. I honestly couldn't disagree with you more on what you typed. Both myself and recently, my girlfriend's brother both had this procedure. Yea, its outpatient, but isn't EVERYTHING outpatient anymore sadly? This injury does not take anywhere close to the amount of time you said it does to heal. Added on top of this, Kerry will obviously not be throwing a baseball during this time, leading to even more necessary strengthening of his arm, etc. etc.
