  1. Do you guys ever cut the Cubs some slack? If you were suddenly uprooted from your office job and asked to do marketing or something...would that not take some time? I don't like Baker any more than the next fan, but come on! Yea, because, I'm sure that's the goal of the team.
  2. So would I. Knowing that....what would it take to get Elijah to the Cubs org? Cubs are a family organization. Absolutely no way this happens. Ever. The Cubs drafted Ben Christiansen and considered bringing in Milton Bradley so I'm not sure they're all that "family" oriented. Not to argue, but I'm fairly sure the #1 reason why we ended up not signing Bradley was due to the off-the-field problems. Sad truth is the Cubs care about ticket sales over anything else. It would have been a trade. The Dodgers made the correct move anyhow considering they got Andre Eithier for him. Sorry, trade. I don't know if anyone knew Ethier would be the player he has been this year though. I know he was a good prospect, but who knows what the Cubs offered?
  3. I'd much rather resign Pierre to patrol CF for next year. I think the second half Pierre we've seen is the real one.

  6. The hell with both of them. Seriously. To have such a god-given talent and piss it away over semantics is inexcuseable. People would kill to be paid thousands of dollars to play a child's game. Disgusting.
  7. The Cubs would prefer to keep Pierre, believing that what they've seen since June is the real Juan Pierre. I'm not aware of any serious talks, of late. Thanks...an offense that has Pierre, Cedeno, and Izturis is going to be scary impotent, don't you think? It's not so bad if you hypothetically have C. and D. Lee in the middle, aRam, and a Murton/Jones platoon.
  8. It's not so bad they let him back early, I mean EA Sports just put JJ Redick on the front of the new NCAA hoops video game. What a role model for kids! Drink your way to stardom! I know that's a little over the line, but I really hate Redick.
  9. Couldn't agree with you more - truly classless.
  10. Um, yes you did. Well, fine, you got me. Everyone is imperfect except myself. I am god. Happy? My point was that if I complain, it's due to the lack of optomism on this board in general. When other people complain, it's over the sky being blue or water being wet, whatever the current topic of the day is.
  11. I love his loyalty and love for the Cubs, but the fact is he's just not a good 2B.
  12. That's my point, other than Von Joshua who do you really trust to instill into these players how to play the game the right way? Besides that, I think Hendry believes, despite this year, that this is a team built to win now, and prospects won't help achieve that goal. It may be slanted logic, but it's just my opinion of what Jim's thought process is and was.
  13. Like it or not we have an investment in Rusch so he's going to get some work. I cast my ballot for just releasing the guy, but if that's not going to happen, maybe he makes more sense as a spot 5th starter to let the AAA guys get some work. Not like we're going anywhere this year anyway.
  14. I'm a fan of Dusty's off the field tactics, but I think he has a large part in the injury problems of Wood and Prior, and I also don't understand why every substitution has to be a double switch...obviously I don't think his on field tactics are the best. With that said, I think his players play hard for him and maybe that's all you can ask from a manager. He's not my favorite, but he beats some of the alternatives. My main complaint with the Cubs organization is my lack of confidence in scouting and development. The fact that the Cubs haven't fielded a home-grown position player since the cold war says a lot to me.
  15. I never said everyone except me. It seems to me you're picking a fight so I'm going to respectfully end the discussion, neither of us are wrong, you have your opinion and I have mine. We're both Cub fans, we both want whats best, lets leave it at that.
  16. Calling it a bad organization isn't saying they aren't trying. That's a false argument. He didn't call it a bad organization, he called it the worst franchise in professional sports.
  17. It's a waste when middle infield defense isn't the team's weakness. It's a waste when the biggest problem with the team is lack of offense, and they start counting on people with insanely bad offensive numbers. Just because the Dodgers felt that he was worth nearly 10M over 3 years does not make it a good contract. Somebody was foolish enough to give Neifi 2.5M. And what the hell does Beltre have to do with it? Izturis is being written off because of his history of inept offense. If I sucked at what I did and people at my new job knew it, they would have every right in the world to not be happy about bringing me on when other, better options may have been available. You're more than welcome to stop visiting this board if the comments are too much to take. Quite frankly, I could do without the whining. I really doubt Hendry is 'counting' on Izturis to carry the offense. Secondly, everyone on this board whines. Just because I have a different view than you doesn't mean I'm whining - come on now.
  18. Without Leo Mazzone, Sosa is Russ Ortiz.
  19. I'd like to see Ryu get another shot. Williams is an AAAA pitcher and is never going to amount to anything more than a .500 pitcher with a 5.00 ERA at best. Yea, Ryu got hammered in his first start, but part of that has to be accounted to nerves. Not only was it his first game, but he's foreign, and probably has never in his life played in front of so many people.
  20. so? why post if you feel that way. I think the Cubs got what they could for Walker, there was NO line waiting to get him for over a year. I like the Maddux deal too. Yeah, we get to waste another $4.5 million next year on Izturis. $4.5 for a GG defensive SS entering his prime is hardly a 'waste'. Don't forget that it's not just the Cubs, the Dodgers are the one that signed this contract and believed he would be worth it. You want a waste? Check out Adrian Beltre. I'm sick of the never ending sarcastic comments on this board. Izturis hasn't donned the blue pinstripes for a single AB and you're writing him off. How would you feel if you got hired for a new office job and the entire building assumed you were a moron before your first day?
  21. Becuase with trading Walker we have no one to play 1B. Even with the season down the drain, playing Mabry every day is pretty sad.
  22. Honestly, I can't see Todd having a fun time trying to play 3B.
  23. Come on. This organization tries to win, even if their battle plan isn't the greatest. Wrigley sells out every game. The even notion that this franchise is bottom of the barrell is ridiculous and insulting. Question their results, but not their effort. This franchise wants to win. I could give you a multiple page list of teams that don't give a s***. The Cubs are not one of them. You're having a knee-jerk reaction to a subpar year.
  24. I think expecting a .290/.335/.400 line with GG defense and a few doubles and triples is very, very possible. Cedeno and Izturis are a *sick* double play combo. I just don't think SS/2B are positions you are looking for offense from. You want your big sticks to be at LF, RF, 1B, and possibly 3B or C. Obviously the Cubs have offensive problems, but not getting huge production from SS/2B is not the issue - our pathetic outfield is. Murton has been a huge dissapointment, 4 taters from your LF is terrible no matter how you slice it. Jones has decent numbers but reminds me of a weaker Sosa in the sense that he K's like it's going out of style and is dead and buried with two strikes. Hendry has the right idea here, assuming offseason FA acquisitions are made in other positions. If not, stupid trade as Walker helps us more if we aren't going to acquire more offense. This trade depends on the actions of Hendry, not Izturis.
