  1. As a Brewerfan I'd say our #1 rival is the Cubs so you probably have Brewer fans voting for Brewers on that poll. Since the team has sucked since moving leagues, last year was the first real 'rivalry' year we had in the NL and the Cubs were the team that stole the division from us. Before last year I'd probably say the Pirates were the Brewers #1 rival since we always play terribly in their park and we were fighting with them for 5th place a lot of years!
  2. He also gave up a BB to Kendall but the ump apparently had plans so he called it a strike out~. He looked really good on the first two batters though, nice movement, perfect location on the pitches.
  3. The last regular season game didn't really count... If I were a Tigers fan I'd be freaking out though, much more than a Cubs fan should be. Their bullpen really is a disaster and losing the game the way they did just validates a weakness on the team. Even if Wood flat out fails as closer the Cubs have a decent bullpen. I don't consider the Tigers the favorites in their division either, so every game they fall behind the Indians early is a big deal.
  4. Last year he said the Pirates would win the division...
  5. agree, bury riot in the 7-9 spots and im cool with him...but leadoff? not so much, but seriously, i'd love to hear a viable plan to get a better hitting SS...i just dont see it happening w/o giving up the farm felipe lopez could be had without giving up the farm. Lopez is a very bad defensive SS though, he is ok at 2B. Can DeRosa play an effective SS? If not I'd think Lopez is a sidegrade and not an upgrade.
  6. I'd offer the same advice to Cubs fans as I offered to Brewer fans today, ignore what RP do in May/Early April. Unless they pitch in some sort of winter league they just don't get enough work in spring training and it is a crapshoot. Every year a bunch of solid RP struggle early and are just fine by late April, this year will be no different. As long as Wood was throwing with good velocity I wouldn't worry one bit about today. Gagne was throwing 91-94 which is about what I would have expected out of him, maybe just a tad lower than i would hope for. Wood was throwing 94-96 which I would assume is pretty acceptable for him.
  7. I'm kind of confused by complaints about the lineup and then suggestions that Pie should be #1 or #2. What exactly has he proven that suggests he should be in a premium spot in the lineup. Sure he has potential but let him show it lower in the order before pressing him into the top of it. His approach at the plate today was pretty ugly. Fukudome should probably be in the top 3 somewhere, Soriano should probably be #5 as a low OBP high SLG guy.
  8. Yeah you can't just look at two players and say it proves anything. If it really is just random with a sample of all of major league baseball you are going to find some that score high and some that are low. It is completely expected that it happens. You have to look at the entire league when trying to prove it does or doesn't exist. I don't believe in clutch unless you want to define it by playing just the same in big situations and say that the majority of players in baseball are clutch. I do believe in anti-clutch, guys who struggle in big situations and try to do too much.
  9. SB are such an unimportant part of the game that I wouldn't be worried about it. The real question is will he ever take a walk like he did with the nationals. Soriano is a very overrated player from a real baseball standpoint. He puts up good numbers but nowhere near super star level.
  10. Ouch! i think that was a compliment, actually. you're not going to put him in the first tier (ie Victor Martinez, Jorge Posada, etc.) at this point in his career, so I think the writer was saying that outside of drafting a superstar catcher, you could do worse than Soto on your fantasy team Yeah 1st tier guys would be Vmart, Martin, McCann, Mauer, Posada. So they are saying he has as much upside as the #6 C in baseball.
  11. I haven't seen two teams more evenly matched on paper before. It will come down to a breakout player, injury or Yost. Parra is the 3rd best pitcher on the Brewers but he has injury concerns and can't really go over 160 IP or so.
  12. It is extremely hard to win ROY as a catcher so the odds are probably against him.
  13. I can see Weeks and Hall, but you really think Hart s that good? I thought he had a heck of a year last year and might struggle to do that again. He did have a .913 and .951 OPS his last two years in AAA, .929 OPS in A+, .937 OPS in rookie ball. Not like last year came out of nowhere. I don't know if I'd put him down for an improvement but i don't think it was a fluke either.
  14. Braun is a pure hitter, power to all fields. I doubt he repeats last year but he'll still be a great hitter. His plate discipline was better in the minors too so you can expect it to improve this year so he'll lose AVG but probably keep the OBP about the same. He won't cost 5 wins on defense either, not even Manny does that in LF.
  15. The entire concept of a sac fly is silly. If I hit a ground ball to 2B and a runner scores from 3rd it isn't a sac groundout.
  16. The majority of teams do this.
  17. One of them is a normal TV guy, I don't recognize the other guys voice so not sure what he is from.
  18. I think Prince wanted a bigger raise, something like what Howard got last year. Yeah but it is an automated system and the Brewers are competitive with league average. Howard got a little extra from being rookie of the year and from winning an MVP. I mean if the team actually breaks its own system for him then they are just going to piss off every other young player on the team who they don't break the system for.
  19. There is no way the yankees wait until Fielder goes free agent to sign a big name 1B. I'm guessing Teix or Howard ends up there. Bit confused by what Fielder is angry about, it is an automated system and Boras is his agent so I'm sure he shot down any talk of a deal buying out years.
  20. http://disabledlist.blogspot.com/2008/03/alfonso-soriano-fractures-middle-finger.html I really have no idea how legit this guy is, but I read his site and he sounds like he knows what he is talking about in general
  21. Vazquez > Lilly just to get that straight~ I'm confused how he thinks that Konerko=Lee when Kenorko has been significantly worse than Lee offensively in 3 of the last 4 years and is much worse defensively and is older and trending the wrong way. As bad as I think the Cubs #4/#5 starters will be this year it is hard to say Danks/Floyd are better than anyone. I'm also very confused by him thinking the Sox bullpen is suddenly good after some questionable contracts to players on the downside of their careers. I say all of this as a Brewer fan so I'm not even biased. The Sox will be lucky to win 81 games, the Cubs might win their division.
  22. http://blogs.jsonline.com/brewers/archive/2008/02/17/gallardo-to-miss-4-weeks-after-knee-surgery.aspx
  23. Well it does just so happen it is important the first week of the season. The Cubs open up against the Brewers which is one of the most right handed lineups in baseball so having Hill as the #4 is probably a smart move.
  24. To be fair I think everyone excpected the Cubs pitching to be worse than it was last year and the hitting to be better than it was. I think at least part of that was caused by the weird cold weather we had to start the year.
  25. I'd take even money on a bet that they aren't the best offense in baseball in 2008, much less ever. I of course would be taking the field not picking a specific team. Yeah they have a lot of good hitters but Pudge is regressing fast, Ordonez won't come anywhere near repeating last year and I'm not a believer in Granderson or Polanco repeating last year either. Guillen is on the wrong side of 29, it wouldn't surprise me if Sheffield played less than half a season and I'm not sure Renteria is much of an upgrade over what they got at 1B last year.
