  1. Zito is not worth the money he's going to command in the offseason. I would stay away from him at all costs. Zito never misses a start. I'd trade Wood, Prior and Miller too for him right now and never think twice about it.
  2. This season is just a test. Only the TRUE Cub fans who stick with the team through this little rough patch will be allowed to enjoy the GREATEST COMEBACK IN HISTORY!!!!! Or not.
  3. Reds fan, right? I agree; this would help both teams. Denorfia could platoon with either Pierre or Jones. Or both, on alternating days. I'd love to see him finally get a shot. Maybe they'd throw in Cody Ross.
  4. In 18 AB's with the Reds, Womack had one more RBI than Pierre has currently. Plus he's been taking walks this year. I predict he sparks the offense. Seriously.
  5. I'd prefer Jenkins over Lee -- his day splits are really good -- but he's signed through 07 with an option for 08. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if Hendry likes his current outfield just fine; they just haven't "got going yet".
  6. Back at what? Mediocrity? With the larger pieces in place, this team fully healthy is a good team. World Series good? I don't know. I'm sorry, but how long are we going to fall for that? I'll believe Mark Prior still exists when I see him. I'll believe he'll be a dominant starter when I see it. Same with Wood. And I love Derrek Lee too, but once he's "back", who knows how long before he's 100%? And will the retards boo him if he's not? I seriously have no idea. These fans are insane.
  7. Back at what? Mediocrity?
  8. Thank you; I used to write lots of song parodies at AmiRight.com. This is just my way of venting.
  9. I apologize if this is the wrong forum for this; I don't see any song parodies around here. Still, it's hard to believe that any Cub fans, especially ones familiar with the original song "It's Not Unusual" by Tom Jones, wouldn't appreciate it. It's not impossible that the Cubs are playoff bound It's also possible the world's not really round And black is white and day is night and up is down It's not impossible the curse could die And goats could fly It's not impossible to get Wood and Prior back Right after Elvis and his Martian friends attack Cause Dusty's brilliant and the Pope is still on crack It's not impossible that this could be the year The Cubbies' time is near Miracles happen all the ti-iiime The Cubs are overdue They play like girls it's true Once Neifi saves us, we'll be fiiiiii-iiiii-iiiiine It's not impossible for the Cubs to be the champs It's also possible that chicks dig menstrual cramps And when you wake up and turn on the bedroom lamp It's not impossible you'll find the Cubs just SUCK again whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh.......
  10. True, but players will regress towards their established levels of performance. Brandon Phillips and Bronson Arroyo wont help keep the Reds on top all year long to the degree that they're doing now. Yeah, just like Eric Milton and Danny Graves couldn't possibly stay as bad as they were at the beginning of last year. I hate to say this, but I live near Cincinnati and the new owner is doing and saying everything I wish Cubs ownership would do -- instilling an attitude of excellence that permeates the entire organization. It's depressing. Plus their hitting coach drew more than 30 freaking walks in his best year as a player. Don't count the Reds out; not this time. Mark my words.
  11. Who do you guys think would be a suitable platoon partner for Jones? vs. Left-handed Pitcher .500 .600 .400 vs Right-handed Pitcher .313 .362 .241 Murton. Suck it up and get Abreu.
  12. Thank you. I'm not a big Rusch fan either but people act like he's been completely worthless the last two years and he hasn't. It's not time to throw him away yet. Jeez.
  13. I'd do it in a heartbeat. I don't think there's much chance the Reds would. It's much more likely they'll move an OF and put him there. He's their only real leadoff hitter. Plus they had Walker before, and they have Aurilia now that they can play there. Also, Wellemeyer won't excite them. I'd offer Hairston and Novoa and see what they say, but I'd doubt it. He's cheap and good and the fans love him. Unless the new owner HATES the DUI thing, I think we'd have to blow them away to get him.
  14. All right, here it is: Reds get: Jerome Williams Rich Hill Roberto Novoa OR Scott Williamson Felix Pie Jerry Hairston Jr. Cubs get: Adam Dunn Ryan Freel Eric Milton Reds move Griffey to 1B; Hairston and Womack compete/ share leadoff in CF til Pie is ready. Aurilia plays second. They improve their pitching immediately and for the future while cutting payroll to sign FA in the offseason. Cubs get exactly what their lineup needs. Yes, Milton had a horrible year and a big contract. But before last year he was about the same as Jeff Weaver-- a reliable innings eater, and he could bounce back. If not, it's not the end of the world as he'd be at the back of the rotation. And did I mention the lineup? Pierre Freel Lee Dunn Ramirez Who Cares Who Cares Who Cares I thank you in advance for bonking me over the head with a reality stick.
  15. Hi everybody; my first post ever. Just wanted to say that there are actually reasons to prefer Jones over Huff. Huff's lifetime OPS against RHP is .845; Jones' is .830. Huff hits lefties better, but the team doesn't really have a big problem against lefties; it's the righties they need help with. Add in Jones' far superior speed and defense, and the fact that they didn't have to give up an arm and a leg for him, and Jones looks better than Huff. Man, it's weird posting here; I'm worried I'll be reprimanded if I say a single syllable off-topic.
