  1. You just want to keep going around in circles? You really think Cuban is the answer to Cubs fans prayers? This fascination with activist ownership is a complete joke. The Yankees of the 90's are the exception to the rule. George ran that team into the ground for 2 decades before his never ending spending finally started to pay off. Activist owners ruin franchises.
  2. Mavricks: 1995-96: 26-56 1996-97: 24-58 1997-98: 20-62 1998-99: 14-36 1999-00: 40-42 Cuban Purchases Team in Jan 2000-01: 53-29 2001-02: 57-25 2002-03: 60-22 2003-04: 52-30 Yeah, what a joke he is as an owner. His initial spending spree made the team better, but they have since stalled, and his continued meddling will not help. The Cubs already are an equivalent of the Mavs, good, but nothing special. They don't need a big personality owner to make the next step, they need smart personel decisions. Simply throwing money around and being vocal (Cuban's only apparant skills as an owner) won't help a thing. Cubs fans who get caught up in the misguided dream of replacing ownership are wasting their time and unfairly giving a free pass to continued mistakes by management.
  3. 1) So does the Tribune 2) So does the Tribune 3) So does the Tribune 4) So does the Tribune Cuban is a joke. He throws his money at all his problems. And he would definitely throw his money at has been veterans, playing the role of George II. Cuban would get involved in the day to day operations of the team and treat the non revenue producing and non headline grabbing minor league system like an underperforming asset. So does the Tribune. That's Hendry. The Trib isn't an activist owner like Cuban would be.

  5. Absolutely. No question. It would have been nice to see them play Raffy in lefty and keep both though. That's what happens when a desperate franchise uses short-term thinking. That '89 season was followed by a decade of incompetence.
  6. They've made the playoffs pretty frequently. That's more than can be said about the Tribune Company. I like Mark Cuban, but I wouldn't want to see him running the show here. He'd turn Wrigley into a circus. It would lose all it's tradition. It is a heck of a lot easier to make the playoffs in the NBA than it is in MLB. Cuban would be a terrible baseball owner. He's all about spending on names, and wouldn't be able to tolerate the slow building process necessary for a successful minor league system to help the organization. The Cubs problem is not with ownership. It's continued misappropriation of funds by management.
  7. I can live with that scenario. However, OF needs to be addressed regardless of what happens with SS. Holly/Dubois, Patterson, Burnitz was blatant negligence going into this season. They have to find an impact bat out there, somewhere, even if they do bring Nomar back.
  8. Probably getting work. But with 18 straight games coming up I think he'll have plenty of chances to get work in.
  9. Wow, what a lousy signing that turned out to be. I still don't get what they were thinking.
  10. Probably booing that a leadoff double didn't score. Some stupid fans don't understand that you can't score every opportunity. That is not a boo-able offense. How annoying must it be to be winning 5-1 in a home game and get booed by a bunch of maroons?
  11. I understand, the three walks are a concern, but he's still not 100% either. I'm just glad to see a starter go this late in the game. After our bullpen was abused for a while, they need the extended rest. Hopefully they can get a nice week or two of consistent 7 inning outings, and they can get rid of the extra bullpen spot. I like the fact that Pittsburgh's first guy out of the pen has to throw 40-50 pitches...gotta figure that he won't be available tomorrow... Given his 10+ ERA I'm guessing his job was mop up duty. And that guy should throw that much in these situations. What I don't like is that the offense hasn't scored off him yet.

  13. That was the first time I realized Bay was in center.
  14. ESPN gamecast? I remember when they'd screw something up, they'd take a while to notice, then they'd start going in reverse before the screwup, and fly back through the action that took place.
  15. 59 pitches for Prior, 84 for Redman. Mark's on pace to be able to finish 7 right around 100.
  16. people (not bob or len) think that it means we are getting an incoming player, probably via trade. there is a list of current players with the #9 on page 15 of this thread. :D Pat and Ron said something about 24 being his winter ball number. I know people are kidding around, but if somebody is going to give up his number to a new acquisition, they are going to wait until that player gets here and offers them some sort of payment for the jersey.
  17. Don't tell Neifi it's not April. That play certainly confused Pat. He sounded disappointed when saying "Wilson cannot make the catch."
  18. This is the major leagues though. Perfect throws are the norm. Not perfect is bad.
  19. It's no guarantee he gets a hit. Its good, aggressive baseball with two outs and the pitcher's spot up. It took a perfect throw to get the out. It's aggressive, I wouldn't call it good. While it may have taken a perfect throw to get the out, on the flipside, it would have taken a bad throw to get the run. And turning over the lineup is pretty much all you can hope for from Blanco. I don't think, you can judge the play good or bad either way. They took a chance and it backfired.
