  1. But what if Koronka threw 400 innings? If they are the most important stat, and he had that many, that would mean he's the best pitcher right? Do you suggest handing out Cy Youngs based on innings pitched?
  2. I'm not sure what you mean by "came through" but he was a sub .500 pitcher with 4.24 ERA and slightly above average peripherals. This fantastic start to 2006 doesn't erase his unimpressive first 2 seasons back with the Cubs. Although if he maintains this pace and helps this team to some postseason success, I'll be more than happy to pretend.
  3. I think at this stage you have to bring up guys like Glavine, Smoltz and even Wells or Mussina.
  4. I am tanking this season on purpose to keep attendance down so I can move my team next season.
  5. Let's hope Greggy is going with the Moises Alou approach to signing a 3 year contract with the Cubs past your prime. He did the "I guess I should work out this offseason" thing, so maybe he'll have a great season.
  6. Link Dusty went to Alf for advice?!? Where was Larry? I wonder if Alf was drunk...... He was probably in the weight room working out vigorously.
  7. Rocket best overall. Maddux has been most consistently good, Pedro was best over shorter time.
  8. Before anybody tries to suggest Maddux thinks its fine to walk a lot of guys, as long as you do it at the right time, he's only got 911 career BB in over 20 years of pitching. He's never had more than 100 in a season and is typically between 20-45. He's got a k/bb in excess of 3:1. There are very few guys who have given up fewer walks/9 IP in their career (Lieber might be one). Giving up walks is bad. Giving up any one individual walk in a certain situation might not hurt you, but over time you need to keep your walk rates down to have great success.
  9. Alf for next pitching coach, or at least, minor league pitching coordinator or whoever has a lot of say on which minor league pitchers stay and which go. Were they out fishing at the time?
  10. It became a problem last year. It has never ceased to be a problem.
  11. Yes he is. A good game does not erase a terrible career.
  12. Hooray for winning. The two utes can split the game ball.
  13. Hopefully Dusty is wise enough to not use the results of this game to justify more use later.
  14. Oh man, the annoyance of the 6th inning interview.
  15. He's comparing him to every person that has ever played baseball at any level. Well, he is better than me, I think.
  16. Que paso? Without having any knowledge of what happened, I'd bet it was no big deal and Maddux would have known if there was a problem or not.
  17. Ron Santo, you suck as an announcer. "Encarnacion is a good ballplayer." No he is not Ron. He is terrible. Why is it that so many baseball people insist on being overly complementary to everybody. There is no such thing as a below average pitching coach, a bad manager, an undeserving regular. Everybody is at least good.
  18. It's so much cooler than a single that keeps the rally going.
  19. You just knew Dusty couldn't wait to try that against Larussa.
  20. I'm listening to the game on XM, and despite all the seemingly exciting plays, I haven't really heard any crowd noice. I hear the organ playing in the background, and can hear the occasional increase in crowd volume, but nothing like you'd expect on openind day. Is it just not translating through the radio?
  21. Like I said Wednesday, a lot of you may think he's overpaid and past his prime, but when the chips are down (or, we are missing chips, in the case of the rotation) Maddux will deliver the results. I'd like more consistent delivery service.
