I agree. I disagree. I don't think it's a matter of Hendry suddenly realizing he's running out of space. I would not be surprised, however, if the Tribune told him to ease back on the long-term committments to players, with ownership in such a state of flux. I really don't think he has much of an idea of what he's going to be able to spend in 2008, 2009, because he's not guaranteed to have a job then, nor is he guaranteed to have the same bosses. I believe the situation is one where Hendry is just trying to get Zambrano signed to the cheapest deal possible. There isn't the same level of anxiety regarding the timing as there would be with a free agent, because he's not a free agent.
