yes, it is very unlikely that the cardinals have a pitcher in the minor leagues who could be as good as roy oswalt would be this year. if so, that pitcher would be in the major leagues pitching every fifth day. I don't see where you get all this confidence in Oswalt. The man is damaged goods. Damaged goods that had a 3.69 ERA last year pitching half his games in Philly and lead the league in WHIP while placing 6th in the Cy Young vote in 2010. Here's a list of qualifying rookie starting pitchers that had a better ERA than Oswalt last year: Jeremy Hellickson
That's been my read on it since it came out he was having problems. Really pisses me off that they worry about Oswalt's cost (rumored 10 mil) so they only offer 5 mil but then give 2.5 mil to a bad starter/mediocre reliever and 1.5 mil to a zero tool .675 OPS 5th outfielder.
Wow, wouldn't have pegged him to be the lone person affiliated with the Saints to have some integrity. He probably did it more as an "I'll show them" gesture than some sense of moral responsibility. If that helps you out any. Nah, I like to imagine he had a real heart to heart with Kyle Turley and decided it was the right thing to do for the NFL.
Schefter reporting that there's some sort of snag with Tebow's contract that could nullify the trade. I think the portion he's talking about is 5 million.
