  1. I don't know that you can really blame the Trib for the money they've spent, you can only blame them for letting MacPhail keep Hendry and the clown Baker. 95 million isn't chicken feed, and puts them above the Cards and Astros does it not? You can spend a lot of money for an Edsel...but you still have an Edsel. It's the ding dongs spending the money that's the problem, not the Tribsters. How much was spent on glendon, neifi, jones, six finger, and how much was NOT spent on keeping Moises. I think the Tribsters expect the team to get run the right way, and when it doesn't, they are just as impotent to do anything about it because they know nothing about baseball, however they do know something about losing, as we all do.
  2. I'm afraid I have to agree. I like Matt, great guy, but he's got no punch in his bat like the rest of these guys. He's just part of an anemic Cubs attack that can't do what it needs to do to score runs. I will say, however, that he does have a decent obp, and if someone were there behind him to drive him in, then he'd look better. But he needs to provide better RBI and power numbers to justify staying in the lineup, though he may as well stay in the lineup, we don't have anyone to replace him with.
  3. If I hear Ron Santo (and I love him to death, like all of us likely do) say one more time, "I have a good feeling about today's game", or Jim Hendry say "This team (the Cubs) has talent", or Dusty "We're just not getting any breaks"...I think I'm going to barf all over my authentic Ryne Sandberg jersey. Why is this tolerated? I call for a boycott of the Cubs: the games, the merchandise, everything. Until the fans show their disgust, the team will keep all these horrible players that will never produce. Pathetic doesn't cover it...I don't know what word does, but this team is horrid.
  4. I frankly don't care if Ozzie is a jerk. Ozzie wins and is given players that he can win with. All the players he has (save the few that weren't traded for) were players the Cubs could have had at one time or another. I couldn't care less if Bobby Valentine or Lou Piniella managed the Cubs, as long as they win. I hope Ozzie keeps talking, maybe he'll stir up a firestorm so that we get rid of all the players we need to: neifi, pierre, jones, the catcher with the sub .100 OBP, glendon, ohman, bynum...keep talking Ozzie, you are right! We don't have the horses
  5. Personally, I think we are fighting over which pig is more cute, the one with the blue dress or the one with the red one. Pierre, Jones, and Patterson are all a joke in their own special way, and average at best. Hendry can't pick talent, can't manage a roster, and lives on hopes and dreams more than he does skills. All three of these players are average, so should any of us be surprised at the result we get on the field against a really fine team like the White Sox? I should say not. The Cubs will always be average, too, as long as they live with this kinda philosophy. Everyone sees it but the team...amazing.
  6. I think anyone in the Cubs minor league system that has an OBP over .300 and absolutely any pitcher with a greater than 2 to 1 k/walk ratio must be gotten rid of, traded, placed on waivers. After all, Baker and Hendry must want to purge themselves of all this "bad" science and logic. Geez. I about threw up when I heard Hendry's interview on the pre game yesterday. Where the hell is Uncle Lou and Billy Beane when you need him?
  7. Too bad an owner can't own more than one team. Would George sell the Yankees and buy the Cubs? I just don't understand it, can anyone enlighten anyone else on these boards why they continue to tolerate ineptness? The best fans in the world that buy up all the tickets and all they do is the same crap over and over. If the Cubs were Home Depot, they'd be out of business...years ago. Gawd I hope someone from the Cubs team reads these boards. Shameful.
  8. How on Earth would we ever know if the injuries are caused by Rothschild? It doesn't matter one way or another. They should all be fired, all of them, including the trainers, concession people, ticket takers, all of them...MacPhail too...this team is worse than I've ever seen it...in the 35 years I've been a fan. I've never seen them so inept, so lackadaisical, so seemingly out of focus. I'd rather have the Marlins with Joe G. at least they are doing it with enthusiasm. Pathetic, what the hell are they waiting for? I give Kerry a month, before he comes up with another injury.
  9. If only it could be so.
  10. I think we should all realize that Dusty got his reputation from Barry's taking of the Flintstones Vitamins, and not from his managerial talent. There's absolutely no question that Leyland calling his team on the carpet was embarrassing to them and they responded. It's a method that's tried and true and it works, just read about Earl Weaver or Dick Williams. these men are professionals paid to do a job, not coddled while we say "Oh, they are just as frustrated as we are." If I performed in my job the way they do, I'd be fired and living on the streets drinking Mad Dog and eating cabbage from a dumpster. It's about time this team had a revolution around here. Frankly, I'm friggin sick of people saying Dusty is a "Player's manager", I want a manager that calls a spade a spade and a crappy performance a crappy performance. Remember when Harry would say, "Man, this guy makes 5 million a year and he can't even bunt the guy to second base." We need someone like that!!! Go Cubs, forever...
  11. For all the knocks on Brenly, he did lead a team to victory in the WS. Yeah, he mentions his past in the booth, but I would too, i think that gives the guy credibility. He couldnt' do any worse.
  12. Has anyone started firedustybaker.com yet? It wouldn't day any good to fire Dusty, we'd still have Freddy Bynum and Neifi on the roster...when we could have Buck Coats, Pie, or some other combination striking out all the time. It's futile to to talk about it, but kinda cathartic to do so, at least I'll sleep knowing i got it off my chest...lol.
  13. I so agree with all this. All of this is true and none of it is surprising. What's the definition of stupidity? Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. This team is average. The longer it takes any of us to realize this, the longer you will all be on psychiatric treatment and antidepressants. We have/had one superstar (Lee) and one excellent player (Aramis...potential superstar)...the rest of these cats are average and some of them are a joke for a team that nearly spends 100 mil a year. For this team to be better, it needs to be sold...and the management up to and including MacPhail purged away. I'm not surprised that they've crashed like this...I am surprised that they continue to do it faster and faster every year. Pretty pathetic, but not surprising. Sad isn't it? Can someone see ANY bright future here? Something realistic?
  14. The handwriting was on the wall a long time ago. As long as we have Neifi, Jacque, and a marginally better CF in Pierre, and as long as we rely on getting starters back that have never performed over the long term, the Cubs are doomed. And always will be. I will always be a Cubs fan, always, but the futility here is self-imposed, pure and simple. Ronny, Todd, Derrek, Aramis, Greg, and Matt cannot compensate for Juan, Jacque, Glendon, Neifi, and the rest of the sub .300 OBP guys. Baseball doesn't work that way, and nobody should be surprised by the outcome. We gave away three promising pitchers to get Juan Pierre, is anyone surprised by the results? Clearly Juan was better than Corey, but he's not worth three good (but not great) pitchers. Baker needs to go...along with the rest of the management...period.
  15. By the way, you guys are smarter cub fans than I, but with Neifi and Jacque a major part of this lineup, our goose is cooked. Look at the bright side, at least it took less than five years to lose Jose Macias.
  16. That is so right. When I watch these guys, I see a pathetic lack of heart and decision making. Jacque screwing up on the bases TWICE and Juan Pierre getting picked off second. I thought this was the year that Baker was going to "concentrate on the fundamentals". Why why why? Baker needs to go. Has anyone noticed Jim Leyland and how well that Tigers team is playing? That guy can manage...I don't care what you say, that guy can manage.
  17. I wasn't trying to offend you. I just think that the Cubs are a case by themselves, not only because of their luck, but they didn't have Roger Clemens. And the Astros didn't have the goat. It's a long season. And I can cling to my hopes, as we all can. Sorry if I offended.
  18. George Will, I believe, once wrote that the "law of averages" doesn't apply to baseball. As proof he cited the Chicago Cubs, and then said, "Need I say more?" The season is a long one, we all know the Reds aren't as good as they are and we all know that Atlanta won't be under 500 because they have Bobby Cox. The Cubs? It's not over yet, there is always hope. (Did I just say that?)
  19. All I know is that we should all qualify for SSI disability for our continued support of this team. I will never quit on these Cubs, but to compare them to the Astros is not fair. Bad luck, bad managing, and great fan support. It's too bad really.
