    I can't imagine Kosuke's value will be any higher than 2 players in the 15-20 range. I bet it will be lower than that, but I would be pretty happy to get 2 decent prospects back. This may be a dumb question on my part and I offer my apologies in advance...but it bothers me that instead of getting one top 10 guy in a trade like this we seem to settle for two guys in the 15-20 range. Maybe I'm a fool but I would much rather get one guy with a good chance at reaching his projections than two guys with a lesser chance.

    I have a bad feeling this will be for 2 players in the 15-20 range for the tribe or the dreaded "players to be named".

    The only comparison I have is a dislocated thumb I had maybe ~15 years ago. I was in a splint for two weeks and it was sore for one or two weeks after that. I was in my early 20's at the time.

    The Fielder homer was on a decent pitch, and Z threw it where Geo wanted it. Castro has to make that play on Weeks. Watch Z get in his face in the dugout after this inning.

    If they really want to get quality back in return, they'll need to move Byrd, Marshall, Marmol, or Soto, but if they plan to contend next year, they probably want to hang on to those guys. They should really be shopping Baker and Johnson at this point in addition to the obviouses in Pena and Fukudome. Maybe even James Russell. Teams always want lefty relievers and Russell is solid. Russel's stint in the rotation probably killed his trade value. I agree though, he had been very good since then. I think he's a Cub in 2012.

    I wonder if the teams that don't get Beltran would be interested in Fukudome, Byrd or Soriano......just saying.......

    From the BA prospect/trade chat: Q: What can we expect from the cubs over the next few days? It would apear to be the optimal time to stock the system and trade away Marshall, Baker, Johnson, Fukudome, Pena, and Ramirez, but it doesnt appear Hendry wants to admit his failure.

    He doesnt need to be anywhere near an ace. As weve learned all year long, middle of the rotation and even solid back of the rotation starting pitchers are very valuable. If we aquire someone like CJ Wilson next year, a rotation of Garza,Wilson,Dempster, Z, Cashner/Wells looks very good. I didn't realize that Wilson was pitching so well for TX. He's making $3M this year and he's pretty damn good. I can't see TX letting him go but he is in line for a nice payday if he hits the open market.

    I wouldn't hesitate to trade Zambrano provided the return is very good. Giving him away just to get salary relied is not a good approach.

    You wouldn't trade Soriano even if we ate 60%? That would save over $20 million over the next few years. I would...without thinking twice about it.

    I can't see any team risk having to take on that entire contract just to block some other team from getting Soriano. The WSox picked up Rios and his huge deal. I don't think that was to block anyone but it is possible. Maybe a team looking for a DH or something. I'm not saying anything like this is going to happen but it seems slightly more possible than an outright trade before the deadline. Again, pure speculation on my part.

    Waivers might be a better option for Soriano. This is pure speculation but a fringe team from a large market might be willing to block him from a team higher in the standings.

    For Soriano I wouldn't expect much back even if they eat the majority of the deal. For Zambrano, if they are picking up a significant portion they better get an excellent prospect or two back.

    Below average Richard + $56M is much better than Peavy.

    Rough Raley has disappointed but he's been better lately. Coleman is filler at this point. Harman is a little intriguing.

I love this gem: Sure, Richard is on the DL and his W/L record this year is poor but he plays on a terrible team and his peripherals are better than his record would indicate. His line last year was 14-9, 3.75 ERA, 201IP, 1.4WHIP, 7K per start. Not too shabby and when you include the fact that the Padres saved $56M this trade was a HUGE win for them. PV has done nothing and even if he throws a shutout tonight the trade is terribly lopsided.

    Matt "Juan Pierre" Szczur is doing work. I always think about that quote when Szczur hits a HR. Just idiotic. Who is that quote attributed to?

    I realize that scouts report to Hendry, but isn't this an implication of the scouting department more than it is of Hendry? I suppose it's possible the scouts all told him to sign these guys and he refused, but given his tendency to sign the Doug Davis's, Ramon Ortiz's and Thomas Diamond's of the world that would seem unlikely.

    Nothing wrong with the song or people singing it after a (rare) win. I agree about the guest conductor though. I loved it when Harry was here and sang along at many ballgames but that was a Harry-ism and should have been retired when he died.
