    How soon can draftees start playing? I think I remember seeing HS draftees play in Mesa the year they were drafted. Any chance we see Baez and VogelBOMB (I said it) in Mesa before the year is done?

    Maybe some news on rebuilding Wrigley that doesn't require public funds. I'm sure he is going to highlight the amount spent on the draft. He needs to do something or he's staring a decreased attendance next year as well. Wasn't it said somewhere that the scouting department is loyal to Hendry and if he goes so do they? If that is true then maybe the best option from Ricketts' standpoint is to move him out of the GM role and into something else....assuming he would take it. Maybe move him to the President role and bring in a new GM or something. I am guessing though. Just my two cents.

    SNTS? I don't want to be too hard on the kid, but showing up to ST out of shape is pretty bad. When you become a pro, baseball becomes what you do. By showing up out of shape he's basically saying he doesn't care. He can certainly change, maybe he has already I don't know. I hope he pans out but I need to see more.

    Pretty compelling evidence even without considering the stats. The guy raising his hands on every fastball, and his position in his seat (above the pitcher from the perspective of the hitter).

    I see your point about the commitment to the draft and it makes perfect sense. I am more of a casual follower of the minors and you guys certainly know much more than I do. I guess my feeling is the same as the Raley signing last year. He seemed like a decent enough player and those guys can turn into tradeable pieces down the road, but the likelihood that they contribute directly to the turnaround of the franchise is unlikely.

    I don't get the excitement over Shoulders. He was a 20th round pick last year and a 25th round pick this year. That doesn't scream 10th round talent to me. Assume he is 10th round talent, those guys don't turn into quality major league players very often. I hope he pans out but all indications are....he's roster fill.

    Considering the run environment at Iowa, Struck is actually performing well above my expectations given the aggressive promotions. Likewise for Rusin. He isn't 24 yet and is pitching very well in the PCL. Honestly, I didn't realize that he was so young and I had in my mind that he was another JR Mathes type (not sure why). He and Struck (love that name) have more than held their own.

    This season has sucked on many levels, but sweeping Dusty out of town would be great. I'm worried that this winning streak might save Quade's job though. "Now that we're healthy we're finally winning some games....blah blah" kind of crap. Has anyone heard anything about Cashner? Has he thrown off the mound at all yet? I'd like to see the guy pitch this season if his shoulder is up to it but he hasn't done any rehab starts or anything yet.

    I HATE the minor league baseball web site. Annoying ads, extremely slow, terrible server response time, popups. Just terrible.

    hmmm....interesting I was a vocal critic of Ricketts earlier in the season on this site. With what looks like a more dedicated approach to player development I'm beginning to change my opinion. We'll see if/when the 2011 draftees sign to know for certain but all indications are that the Cubs are spending a lot this year.

    With the signing deadline of 8/15, is it reasonable to expect the announcement comes that day (assuming they sign)? Side note: Ridiculous system that forces kids who want to play, and organizations that want to pay delay the start of the kids professional career to *potentially* save other teams a little money.
