  1. I dont like baseball anymore! Ahhhhh nevermind
  2. Actually, right now has to be one of the worst moments I can remember: a) The cards are about the win the world series b) The sox won it last year c) We won 60-something games So basically the two biggest rivals have each won the world series in the past two years and my team is going the other way. Yeah, it sucks to be a Cubs fan right now.
  3. You are ignoring the very bad games from before he was hurt. He actually got some wins in bad games, which probably caused people to overlook his performance. Marshall was not good. He had good games, but the Cubs don't need pitchers who have occasional good games. The results were not good before or after the injury. And the injury was no fluke, it's a recurring theme in his career. I'd put him ahead of those guys as well, probably, but none of them should be considered anything close to a lock for the 2007 rotation. Is Hill a lock in your book? He started the year with some awful outings. He and Marshall seem to be opposites. Hill started out poorly but made some adjustments and ended the year strong. Marshall started out better than Hill and finished poorly. If you're looking at the body of work, both had some good and bad outings. I suppose it's possible that I'm putting too much emphasis on the good and too little on the bad. Maybe "lock" was too strong, but Marshall should get a good chance to see if he can build on his limited success at this level. Assume 1 FA's this offseason goony, who fills the other slot?
  4. I see Marshall as step ahead of Guzman, Marmol and Mateo if only for his limited success at the major league level. He threw some very good games early in the year, and some very bad games later in the year. He has his rookie year past him and if he's healthy he gets a shot in my book. It all depends on who is signed in the offseason though. Marshall was pressed into the rotation after ST 2006 because of Wood, Prior and Miller. I doubt anyone in Marchsaw him in the rotation for the entire year. If two quality free agents are added, Marshall/Guzman/Miller/Prior battle it out. If three FA's are signed then Marshall goes to Iowa if he's not traded.
  5. My apologies for taking this thread so far off topic.
  6. I sure hope not. 6-9 era 5.59 whip 1.52 ip 125 h 132 bb 59 k 77 He was a rookie who had had 4 bad outings before he was injured in July that accounted for 25 of the runs he gave up. After the injury he really struggled but I've wondered if he wasn't rushed back due to the state of the rest of the staff and the struggles of Guzman and Mateo. Zambrano FA FA Hill Marshall I'd give Marshall 1/2 of the season to prove the flashes he showed in early 2006 weren't a fluke. If he struggles, Miller/Prior/other get the call.
  7. This seems kinda odd to me. If he just lost some arm strength from the time off you would think he could get that back by simply pitching again for a while. If its a mechanicle issue maybe he's been working with the wrong people. I sure hope he can get it back, but Ive never heard of someone losing thier stuff simply from not pitching for a while. Even sitting out a year, Tommy John surgery patients do this all the time and usually regain thier velocity. Then its not a good thing he signed with a team that recently had in its stable probably the largest and best pool of minor league pitching talent the league will see and is currently looking for 3 starters to fill out their ML rotation. Is Marshall not a lock for the 2007 rotation?
  8. What a wasted draft pick. That must have been a pretty weak draft though First round http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/baseball/mlb/2000/draft/news/2000/06/05/round_1/ All rounds http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/baseball/mlb/2000/draft/index.html In that draft the Cubs drafted a SS in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 6th round. they also drafted Dontrell Willis in the 8th round. Funny though that the Cubs have two others from that draft in the system. Harrington just signed and Negron played for W. Tenn in 2006.
  9. IMO this sets a bad precedent for the upcoming FA period but it's been as bad or worse in past years. Someone is going to break to the bank to get Schmidt/Zito.
  10. Let Pierre walk and keep Theriot as your leadoff hitter.
  11. I agree. To deal that much talent to get Pierre w/o some sort of guarantee that he'll resign is risky at best. Middle of 2006 and I was wishing that Nolasco was still wearing Cubbie blue with all the injuries and poor performance of the starting staff.
  12. Moyer just signed a 2yr deal with the Phills for $10.5M.

  14. Some of the comments here are disappointing.
  15. Congrats to both Mark and Heather.
  16. I think so many of us grew listening to Stoney and Harry broadcasting games that its hard to dislike the guy. On the other hand, the way he left the organization was very "Mark Grace-like" and irritated me enough for me to overlook the previous point. Stoney is gone and good riddance. I'd rather have Brenly in the booth. If he gets a managerial job somewhere, then bring in the Red Baron. If not him than anyone not named Stone or Grace will do just fine. Notable exception being Joe Carter
  17. How do you know the positions of Pie and Hill?
  18. In all seriousness.........can we stop the fat jokes?
  19. Seconded. MacPhail leaving has shaken his foundation.
  20. Now might be a good time to announce that you're leaving too Jim.
  21. When did the Chicago Cubs become such whiny idiots? We pay money to see you play and represent the City of Chicago and it's fans. We have a right to ask for change when you're underperforming. If I stink at my job there will be plenty of people calling for me to be fired. It's their right as my employer. Note: no one has ever carried a sign saying "Fire BeerHere!" but the day is young.
  22. Vance may have convinced me on Dierker. I managed to get a couple insights from his book and, while not perfect, he's world better than Dusty. Although that doesn't say much. My bet.......Girardi as Hendry is going to try and appease a restless fanbase. He's probably already nervous thinking about the convention.
