    Robbie needs to figure himself out. Fix Rex, then we spring another leak. On another note, my Field Pass feed for Joniak died and I'm stuck listening to the TB guys. Makes me appreciate Jeff. They were convinced the refs wouldn't dare overturn Smith's fumble cuz this game was at home, and are generally just awful. Let's wrap this up!

    Technically, they're 12-17, and have 5 games to go to .500. A true .500 record probably makes the playoffs, though. With those extra five points, they would be in, as of today. Just the same, they are in the hunt and need to keep it up. I also wouldn't mind seeing Tallon pick up another good two-way offensive player or two. There are still a few guys that are getting a lot of ice time (*cough* Karl Stewart *cough*, to name one) who could be upgraded by the deadline.

    Last night was one of those games that good teams win. I'm not saying the Hawks are there yet, but they played a listless, uninspired hockey game for about 55 minutes. But they managed to fight through it, put together a quick burst of scoring and beat a bad team that was playing with slightly more effort due to the firing of their coach. It showed something, but they have to keep it going to get some buzz going and get people out to the UC.

    No, they make those changes a couple weeks in advance. The only week left undecided for the late games is week 17. Damn. Glad this one stayed a noon game. With the Rams playing later, and local FOX showing a noon game, they better choose to air the Bears game.

    So the Bears have tie-breakers over New Orleans? I didn't think that was the case. Isn't the first tiebreaker conference record? The Bears are 1+ on NO in that right now, but if they lost tonight, obviously they would be even there and move to the next TB. Have no idea what that is? Common opponents? Here's hoping they make it a non-issue and take care of business against a team they should pound on.

    I agree. If bad Rex looks bad in the first half, that will be it for him for awhile. Walking around downtown at lunch here, looks like the Bears fans will be there in big numbers. And judging by how many were at bars tipping cold Buddies, I'd say they'll be noisy too! :shock: Can't wait to get over there tonight! Go Bears!

    I don't think so now. Thanks Bruce. Sounds like: Z Lilly Hill Marquis Prior/Miller/Marshall Does. Not. Compute. Unless there is another impact acquisition made on offense, seems like a whole lot of money spent without much improvement.

    It does seem odd that Strauss is reporting this as a done deal, though it isn't showing up anywhere else. I think he's anxious to break this story, as Cards fans are treating this with absolute glee. If I were them, I would too! I know this offseason is causing everyone to reassess what players are worth, especially mediocre ones, but 3/28 is outrageous by any stretch.

    Or as they said on 590 this morning, maybe he wants Big Barry to pose for the 2007 Animal Rights Foundation calendar. Seriously, being exiled to St. Louis, I think it would be interesting to see how the creeeeeepy Cardinal fans would react to Barry.

    Being as Schmidt wants to stay out west and has a deal that would give him $16M per over the next 3 years, he's going to need to be blown away. 4/$70M would probably do that - but I don't want the Cubs to invest that sort of money in him, really. I know, and I see that my reaction is a kneejerk one, but I think it's worth a few extra million to keep him away from St. Louis.

    Like I said before, Hendry cannot let this happen. If there's nothing he can do about it, and Schmidt is drinking the red kool-aid, I guess that's fine. But if it's all about the benjis, Hendry better show him enough to get it done.

    Not to beat this horse dead, but the following is from Bernie Miklasz: Talked to one of the Cardinals' higher-ups just now... DeWitt and Jocketty have been told that there's no deal yet -- and that they (Schmidt and his agents) would like to still have discussions.... so as far as the Cardinals are concerned, there's still reason to have discussion with Schmidt's agents... and I am told the Cardinals are making a "strong" offer. ---B Interesting.

    I posted this over there too. There is no freaking way Hendry can let Schmidt come to St. Louis. Whatever it takes, do it.

    This is 100% secondhand, but someone at the St. Louis Dispatch's Cardinal forum is saying a Phoenix radio station is saying the Schmidt deal is not final and that there is a higher bidder out there. Like I said, FWIW.

    Not much about the Royals makes sense these days, but I'm willing to give Dayton Moore the "he's-not-Allard-Baird" benefit of the doubt. They should have a window in a few years where they can be competitive. Hopefully they make something of it.

    I don't think this is going to make the difference in whether or not Hendry nabs Soriano or any decent SPs. This was a good pickup. Possibly a bit too much money, but it ain't mine.

    I've lived in STL for about two years now, and the hatred of LaRussa is a very polarizing thing. You either love him or you hate him. For my part, I just hate watching his team's games when he starts grinding it out with his 'pen. Watching everyone at work celebrate this week, and knowing how they'll be on Monday, it's so depressing. As if these fans needed any other reason to be condescending and self-righteous. *heave*
