That I 100% agree with. My only beef with the reporter is maybe (maybe) he could have reached out to them for comment. But as I typed that I'm not sure that even makes sense because several people got fired and he couldn't be expected to contact all of them. ETA: But ultimately, Feder probably couldn't have known that the bosses at that station would be so unprofessional. So instead of reporting the story, he's supposed to contact the employees directly to inform them directly they're fired? No, of course not. To put a bow on my opinion here, it's far for the reporter to assume they had been told by then, so he's off the hook.
