  1. Gotta bring this one back to the top, as we are now about five weeks from the start of the season! I know it's not the Hawks serving up beatings to the Wangs, but this still made me smile: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfp9zk_ZO1w&feature=related
  2. I've been hooked on brats since I decided to get one for the first time in years at the last game in Milwaukee... They are good eats, but I'm still partial to the polish. There is a guy who sells a mean grilled footlong polish off a cart in downtown STL. Amazing.
  3. We hate flatlanders We're more than a summer home Bratwurst is tasty
  4. It's a positive thing for MLB and of course for MIL, so hats off to them.
  5. I've seen all the calculations of what MIL needs to do if we go 15-14, 17-12, etc. What I want is for the Cubs to clinch agains the Cards at home. That means they need to pick up 2 more games on the Brewers over the next three weeks. Go to it, guys.
  6. Where you staying? I'm jealous. I think he meant in 2004 during the Milton almost no-hitter game. Not tonight.
  7. I tried to convince Ms. Jay that we should make this trip, but made no progress. Have fun, folks. Make it sound good on TV for us.
  8. Didn't the Cubs carry a no-hitter into the 9th a few years ago against the Phillies, then lose the no-no and then the game? I'm getting old. Who was that pitching for us? Or am I imagining this whole thing? I just seem to recall it was someone who had no business being a few outs away from a no-hitter. EDIT: I'm both old and stupid. It wasn't a Cub at all, but I was right about it being a crappy pitcher. Eric Milton. Here's the gamer, with a reference to everyone's favorite ex-Cubs bullpenner: http://www.baltimoresun.com/topic/cs-040725cubsgamer,0,5586477.story
  9. It's been a mild shift here to acceptance that the Cubs are out of reach. Now the articles just focus on where the Cards stand in relation to the Brewers.
  10. Patience will be the key. And taking Jimmy and Fuku out of the lineup.
  11. Yeah that's pretty dumb. But otherwise I didn't see too much to pick a fight with. Except that this and Posnanski's column appear to be the start of the national media crunch on the Cubs. I hope the guys can handle it because it's only going to get worse.
  12. What did we ever do to them? I'm still chalking this up to jealousy over the popularity of the team despite it's dismal success on the field. And perhaps to the (mostly) myth of the "social event"-Cub fan.
  13. Last time he pitched was the 18-run, 26-hit effort. Repeat, please.
  14. Considering we had no shot at the division and only held the lead in the wild card, probably not all that high. No, it was absurdly high before the collapse. Something like 88%. That's what I thought and how I try to keep myself from getting too giggly when reading these things. Although it is getting harder and harder considering if we go a lowly 15-14 from here on out, the Brewers have to go 21-9 the rest of the way just to tie us for division lead. Agreed. 25 for division and 21 for playoffs? I'm okay with counting it down now.
  15. Can't blame them..Sandberg is scum..a real loser off the field too. Maybe they are just comparing Ryno to past and present Cardinal heroes and all around great and cheerful guys like Enos KKK Slaughter, Steve Carlton, Bob Gibson, Garry Templeton, Mark McGwire and Albert Pujols. No doubt many Cards fans love Slaughter more for his views on, uh, racial equality.
  16. Seriously, Cards, crush Parra. Last night I thought I was rooting for the Cards. But when Braun hit that homer I just started laughing at the Cards' misfortune, almost reflexively. None of that tonight. I'm rooting for the Birds on the Bat 100%. I think. :?
  17. ^Getting eliminated in August must suck. I agree that 3 of 4 would be a successful series. I'm so excited to go to Wrigley on Saturday I can hardly wait. But of the four pitchers going, why do we have to be seeing Lilly? Better than Z, I guess. Last season during a game at St. Louis the GF noticed and became repulsed by how often Z grabs/adjusts/fiddles with his junk. Every time we see him pitching on tv now she'll make a comment about it. So I'm glad he's not pitching so I don't have to hear it. :-#
  18. I've been to Colorado a lot, and I don't think that's true. That place is loaded with ex-Chicagoans and Cubs fans, and by and large Rockies and Cubs fans get along very well. Cubs fans are not hated in NY. They are sort of grudgingly respected for dealing with the crap they deal with, and I've heard several teams NYers say they'd like to see the Cubs win. Boston is similar. Atlanta and Florida don't count, since they don't have any fans. The game I went to at Shea, the Mets fans were way too busy hating the Mets to pay attention to the Cubs.
  19. That doesn't seem like a very good reason to hate a team. I'd imagine they are just jealous that they can't fill their own park, let alone have a crazy national following.
  20. So he writes an article about how people hate the Cubs, and his examples are: Cardinal fans, Sox fans and Brewer fans. STOP THE PRESSES! I like Posnanski, but that's pretty stupid. People everywhere hate the Yankees and Red Sox, not just in Baltimore and Toronto. I tend to think that if the Cubs make the series, most fans not affiliated with the other team will be rooting for them.
  21. I've been incredibly disappointed at the end of every season for my entire life. So is my dad and so was my grandpa. But I hear what you're saying. They have a fantastic opportunity.
  22. W!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I. Love. This. Team.
  23. It's nothing more than a hunch, but I think the Cards will beat MIL tonight. Big chance to extend out the lead some more.
