  1. Nice, especially the first one.
  2. Don't worry about that Jerry, you definitely don't have stars at every position. Or any position for that matter. Seriously, who says that after you have a completely [expletive] offseason? He might as well have said, "We're idiots, we'll go 8-8 and it doesn't matter because you'll buy tickets anyway."
  3. Carcillo going after Vancouver, even dudes who aren't there anymore. http://espn.go.com/chicago/nhl/story/_/id/6845209/new-chicago-blackhawk-daniel-carcillo-tweaks-new-rival-vancouver-canucks Over a long regular season, with hopefully lots of wins, Carcillo will be an entertaining guy to have around if nothing else. If he could light the lamp every so often it will be a bonus.
  4. I don't know if it's worship, it's just a respect for the amazing things he's managed to do along with a desire to watch something special. That's probably the biggest part. If he wins 18 or 20 or whatever number of majors, it's a major accomplishment and folks who have watched the whole way (I was 18 when he won his first major, I think) are, I don't want to say "part of it," but it's like an old timer telling you how Bob Gibson used to pitch or how Bobby Hull and Stan Mikita used to play. You were there, in a way. Otherwise golf is an odd thing. No geographic or other obvious reason to root for a particular golfer (except Gary Woodland, KU guy, for me). It's something for golf fans to attach to.
  5. I'm siding with Tiger, or should I say against Stevie on this one. It was silly for CBS to interview Scott on the green and then immediately interview Williams. I know why they wanted to do it, because it's a juicy story, but the classy thing for Williams to do would have been to decline to be interviewed. It's not about him, and he should have realized that. Instead he did the classless thing, which was to run his mouth about this being the greatest week of his life (doesn't anyone really believe that?) and then later keep disputing how he was fired. Comes off as petty.
  6. As for Sammy, he was always more about himself than the team. That in mind, what does he bring to the front office? Or do you just mean as an "ambassador" like the Hawks do?
  7. I think those things are worth a decent amount if in their original packaging, however, much like with Star Wars, I believe that the more obscure guys who nobody ever bought like B.J. Surhoff and Lobot are the ones that are worth more. I went to the National sports collectors convention this weekend in Rosemont (yeah I'm a nerd), and trust me Starting lineups did not seem to be all that valuable. I mean maybe $20-30 and a couple of rare ones around $50 but nothing more that I saw. Nothings really worth what it once was I guess. Back when I was collecting cards, if you had a rookie card, you were good. Fleer or Donruss tended to be better than Topps or Score, but that was about it. The came Upper Deck, which was top of the line. Next thing you know, there was Topps Finest, Topps Chrome, Fleer Ultra, refractors, chase cards, and all kinds of other stuff. That's about the time I stopped collecting. I don't even know what the baseball card market looks like these days. It seems like gambling for kids to me. You spent $4 on a pack of cards hoping to get a special card worth $50 (or more), but of course you wouldn't be able to sell it for that unless you got it graded and put in glass and all that. I will buy a pack of baseball or hockey cards occasionally, but the whole industry has left me behind.
  8. Berglund won't be playing. He'll prob RS. Webb will be the starter with Cummings/Meachum backing him up. If Berglund had been here in Spring it might have been a different story, but I think he's too far behind. I've always thought Cummings was the better prospect anyway, assuming his knee is better. Nevermind, Andy, remove it from the games of interest list. Pretty much.
  9. Thanks for listing the KU game as one "of interest." I guess I'm interested to see if/how much Berglund plays.
  10. Sharp's price would be diminished this season since he was a free agent to be. In truth, the time to have traded him was right after the Cup. This is a pretty good deal. Sharp can play just about anything the Hawks need him to play, and I think will serve just fine as the 2nd Center until Kruger can take it over (or Mike McNeill if he pans out the way everyone thinks he will). Yeah, he can play a few positions, but none of them at an elite level. He's an acceptable 2nd line center if you can't find a real one. He's a nice player, but a $6m cap hit for the guy as he enters his 30's is a bit much for what he offers. I tend to agree, although the salary inflation this offseason suggests that's probably his FMV. Now, given the Hawks situation it may not be in their best interests to give him the contract (that's where I agree with you), but that number is about right for him. If he performs well this season, he will be tradeable.
  11. Yeah I didn't do that because a) I really was thinking about dropping it, and b) I didn't want to sound like I was trolling for a discount. But I'm sure you're right. And I wouldn't feel bad about it, because as it is they are charging a ton more than what they need to, which is obvious by how much and how easily they are willing to discount it.
  12. I should try it, but they will be able to tell how half heartedly I'd be trying to dump it. Seriously, I didn't try any hard sell at all. Just said I'm wanting to get rid of it. The guy paused and politely asked if I would tell him why. I told him the Bears FA signings sucked, and he said, "yeah I know, I'm a Bears fan too." Then he paused for another minute and asked if price was a consideration, and I told him it could be. And then he just made the lower offer. I could probably even do better than that.
  13. Just an FYI for anyone in a similar situation, I called Directv to cancel Sunday Ticket and they offered it to me for $200 (regularly about $325). I'm still on the fence, though I'll probably keep it now. They win.
  14. Haha. He knows Glendale is not close to Phoenix, right?
  15. Amidst all this cheerful news about the 2011 Chicago Bears, I just saw that Directv charged me the auto-renewal for Sunday Ticket. Seriously thinking about cancelling.
  16. Good, maybe I'll actually watch some golf again. I know I'm far from alone on this, but he's the only player I care to watch.
  17. That's cool. But if Olsen goes now, it will be a huge fail.
  18. We still have Davis, right? So now the TE's are Spaeth, Davis and Olsen? And Manumaleuna. You can probably cross Olsen off the list now. *puke*
  19. Yeah this is basically a wash. Maybe one of the prospects will turn out decent. If not, no big deal.
  20. If? Implies they are being cheap.
  21. No way. See my earlier post. That exchange seems plausible based on giving 10 mill to a punter. Pretty much.
  22. No way.
  23. If he's healthy, this is a great move: http://espn.go.com/chicago/nhl/story/_/id/6809583/ray-emery-attend-chicago-blackhawks-training-camp-tryout-basis Loved that fight he had with a Buffalo guy (Shelley?) a few years ago. Smiling the whole time he was getting his ass kicked. Okay, okay, mouthbreather mode off. He also played great in the net for a stretch last year.
  24. Stevie probably got a little extra to keep a lid on those types of details.
  25. Sort of what I'm thinking. I didn't figure him for being with a girl who has semi-dirty pictures of herself all over the internet. Not that I blame him for a minute.
