Yeah, what makes me pause are my, admittedly, unfair expectations for Schwarber and Heyward going in to 2016, plus the assumption that godmode Jake was going to still be a thing all season.
Awww, I thought it was going to be the crazy "Cedeno is the next Jeter" talk that I don't think was actually a thing. And I'm pretty sure the only reason I didn't post anything dumb in that thread was that I was very confused as to why everyone was getting so heated over Mike Carp.
I don't specifically recall the Harper comparison, but I believe it happened. Folks here were (understandably) really high on Castro and made a lot of optimistic predictions that he did not fulfill. One I recall is that Castro was "guaranteed" to be the next Jeter. Something along those lines. We said the same thing about Ronny Cedeno.
I'm hopeful but not optimistic. I guess that was literally ten years ago tho. Hopefully there are fewer idiots. Kyuji Fujikawa Tsuyoshi Wada Munenori Kawasaki Koji Uehara The Cubs have had quite a few Japanese players since Fukudome and fans have behaved. Come on, clearly we're talking about different circumstances in regards to all of the hype around Fukudome and a guy like Darvish vs. a bunch of dudes. Nobody was ever going to be selling t-shirts for Uehara outside of Wrigley.
When will these articles stop? His swing is broken. He tries to fix it. Video comes out of new swing. Modest improvement and people start claiming he's "fixed". Starts to decline again. Starts to slump. Hits tons of grounders. Somehow hits a HR and then returns to slumping again. Has a bad year with momentary flashes of success at the plate. Tries to clear mind and make improvements to swing during offseason. Wash, rinse and repeat... Yes, when will filler articles about spring training ever stop. What a debacle.
I guess it's pretty easy to just be declared an "Asian analyst" for a major network: https://deadspin.com/nbc-apologizes-for-calling-japan-an-example-to-korean-1822906236
yeah, agreed. would it make sense to do a 6-man rotation every other time around the rotation? Pitchers like to be on a set routine, though If wishes and buts were candy and nuts. CHECKMATE.
