  1. See Marquis, Jason (2006).
  2. If the main reason for trading is an intangible, that's likely not going to work out to be a very good trade.
  3. I don't think this as anywhere near as certain as you are claiming it to be. Agreed. The only way I see Murton ending up in a true platoon is if Floyd stays healthy, and the odds of that aren't too great.
  4. Damn. I wish I looked more like CUB without my shirt off instead of actually looking like S. Pun intended.
  5. Well I think it's if he can get alot of ground balls this year, wrigely will REALLY help him because of it's high grass. highest grass in the majors  Just look at Marshall's official photo this year for proof.
  6. Maybe, but there are plenty of overweight power pitchers who manage to stay healthy. Zambrano for one, Clemens is a bit tubby now too. I hope you're right, but I don't know if weight has a correlation with arm injuries. Zambrano's back problems are directly tied into the weight he packs on during a season, and it's the main reason I'm incredibly apprehensive about the Cubs giving him a longterm deal. That weight is only going to be harder to keep off and keep down as he gets older. Clemens, as per usual, is the exception to the rule, and should rarely be compared to other pitchers, IMO.
  7. I'm never going to be able to not call him "Bunny" Colvin.
  8. It will be interesting to see if Pie stays hot as to whether they try Soriano in right. I think I read somewhere that Soriano doesn't want to keep changing positions especially since he seems to have trouble adjusting to different positions (LF last year, CF this year). Also, if he has had problems reading the ball off the bat in CF, how long will it take him to learn the hooks and slices in RF? Then again, putting Pie in a different position (RF) might affect his hitting. I don't think Soirano is a disaster as an OFer...pretty far from it, actually...but I worry about him in RF at Wrigley. That's a notoriously tough spot to play.
  9. I'd agree with that. Me too. If the main issue is with the language, I totally understand. Are you calling something I said in my post into question? If so, you might be reading my post out of context. This has nothing to do with people's passions about spring training games. The reason I posted "Come on, people. These are spring training games" is to point out the fact that the game threads are out of control (personal attacks/cursing) and the regular season hasn't even started yet. If they are this bad in spring training, how bad will it get during the regular season? I really don't care if someone lives and dies by every single pitch in ST. The importance of winning a spring training is subject to debate, which is what this board is for. My response wasn't directed at you at all...it was directed at the posters (and even threads) directed at ALL posters who were getting excited over spring training games, like there's something wrong with us because we like to amp it up a little because we want any kind of pro baseball that badly. Again, I totally agree about any kind of attacks or insults or bad language...never called for. I was just getting with the general attitude of derision that some here seem to have to those of us that do really get into the spring training games.
  10. I'm hoping that the weight loss means he has a new fitness and health routine he'll stick to, which will hopefully help his body better deal with the stress of his pitching.
  11. Laura, IIRC, Sullivan did mention that he thought Prior was holding back. If he's been throwing faster than that in practice then I'm not worried. I thought -- though I'm certainly not sure -- that I had heard Prior was popping the gun for 92-ish in practice. If that is the case, why in the world would he go all out in practice then hold back in a game? Doesn't make much sense. Because it's his first spring start and it's ultimately more useful for him to try and get back into fighting form than to just go out trying to set the town on fire. He might have been focusing on different aspects of his pitching as opposed to his velocity. Seeing what he can and can't do at this point.
  12. I'd agree with that. Me too. If the main issue is with the language, I totally understand.
  13. It's not that people have a problem with people caring about ST games. With me it's more of when people get all doom and gloom and start blasting profanities. It's Spring Training. The pitchers will have limits. The fielders will have limits. There are players that need to see game action for evaluation. It's great to get excited about spring baseball but hardly anything worth affecting the health over. I'm not justifying people using inappropriate language, but I also don't understand why it riles so many people up if someone, very sarcastically, says "oh, that's it, we're doomed. End the season now" or something along those lines. A little hyperbole isn't going to hurt anyone.
  14. Can we also add in people thinking they need to lecture other posters for daring to show emotion over spring training games? My suggestion would be to ignore these posts if they annoy you. Or, on the flip side, if certain people don't care about spring training and think it's so ridiculous that some of us do, why are they posting in spring training threads about how stupid it is to care about spring training games?
  15. Sweet merciful crap, Neifi looks like he REALLY swelled up in the offseason.

  18. Why does ESPN list him as day-to-day? http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=6787 I hate ESPN.
  19. HOW DARE YOU LIKE ANYTHING IN SPRING TRAINING SIR.
  20. Actually, besides last year, he pitched very well when he wasn't injured, definitely a #3 starter-level or better.
  21. Yeah, I've had hopes for him coming over from the AL. Cedeno having a good day, too.
  22. Apparently the MLB is even more brutal than the DMV when it comes to re-taking pictures.
