  1. The point is that he has a recent track record of playing very good baseball. Baseball? He had a track record for decent hitting. His general play, in my opinion, has always bordered on mediocre or worse. That is absurd. He has been one of the top hitting catchers in the NL for three straight years, and you call that worse than mediocre? That smacks of bias and subjectivity. Even if you can't stand his lack of performance this year, he has been one of the best at his position since he came to the Cubs. Bias? What bias? My "bias" is that I always thought he was medicore or worse at the catcher position. That's part of "playing baseball"...like I said, he had a decent or better bat, fortunately very often during his time with the Cubs, but many of the flaws people are really burned over now were always there. It's simply not accurate to say he played "very good baseball," because he wasn't very good at half of what he had to do as a baseball player. Since when is fielding half of a player's job? Even at defensive positions, I'll take the great hitting weak fielder over the slick fielding, no bat player any day. Barrett has been bad at fielding, but if you think his fielding outweighed his hitting for the last three years, you are probably magnifying the mistakes he used to make by imagining they were as bad as they have been this year and emphasizing fielding too much. I don't think I am, and I know a lot of people would agree with me, but to each their own. I think he should let this thread get back to the game.
  2. Thanks, o lord of baseball fandom. Wait, aren't you the one who said the game was over when were down 1 run in the 5th inning? Yes, I do it often. Explain to me how that is dictating how other fans should be fans of this team. Yup. Here, I'll do it again...Barrett is medicore or worse and has been as a catcher for his entire career with the Cubs. Explain to me how that is dictating how other fans should be fans of this team. Boy, that sure showed me for being frustrated when I'm lumped in as a "Yankees fan" for thinking that guys like Barrett and Z have very real flaws that maybe should mean they shouldn't be Cubs after this season. Yeah, that was all exactly the same.

  4. I'm appalled by watching him play the game. That's funny. The last three years, he's been one of the very few reasons to watch the Cubs, and two bad months into the next season, everybody says they can't stand him. Barrett haters remind me way too much of Yankee fans... that whole "what have you done for me lately?" crap. It's disgusting... and it's certainly not befitting of a Cubs fan. Cubs fans on this site that have that attitude like cubbiechris make me sick to be a cubs fan. If a guy has been nails for you for 3 years, you don't throw him under the bus. The same thing happened to Z. It IS disgusting. and Pathetic. I don't like being associated with those types of Cubs fans. A lot of people haven't liked him from the get go. It isn't like he is Sosa who everyone turned on. Exactly. Same with Zambrano. With guys like him and Barrett, there have been criticisms with them since they started playing for the team, and many of those criticisms are very serious and valid points that should weigh heavily now that both are in the last year of their contracts. What a load of crap. I'd love to see all the criticism re: Z during 03 04 and 05. He was a GOD around here. There were criticisms of Z even when he was still down in the minors. Obviously, opinion was swayed WAY more positive, and I think it still is, but let's stop pretending like many of the valid points of Zambrano came out of nowhere or mean nothing. The idea of "selling high" for Z has been around even during his best seasons.

  7. Except Barrett only had one reason to tolerate him before...his bat. Now, that seems to have vanished. Not only that, his mediocre defense has seemingly gotten worse, there seems to be more issues with the pitchers he's catching, a problem that isn't new, and now he's added the fun new bonus of being a complete moron on the basepaths on par with Jones and Alou at their worst. I can't speak for everyone, but I never thought Barrett was a "reason to watch," even when he was good. I appreciated the offense, but he really never struck me as anything all that special. Barrett's flaws are nothing new, and instead of him learning or growing beyond them, he seems to be regressing them and making them worse as time goes on. The positives barely outweighed his negatives in the past, and now the negatives are "winning" by a country mile. I really don't see how getting fed up with a guy who was never really anything special and has now seemingly forgotten the only thing that made him tolerable is "disgusting." Barrett wasn't some untouchable that people didn't have issues with before.
  8. I predict that Lilly will continue his downward slide.
  9. I predict Marquis continues his inevitable downward slide.
  10. What? "Proactive" isn't a buzzword. By that logic, do you hate "reactive," too?
  11. They never mentioned the groin shot on the radio. I thought he broke a rib or something they way they talked about it. it was a direct hit, quite impressive actually I thought it was more like he actually landed right on the ball with his, uh, area as opposed to actually getting nailed by the throw.
  12. SORIANO HAS LEFT THE BUILDING!
  13. curses and throws laptop across the room ???? Logic hurts. Look, the bullpen did its job and did it great for 5 full freakin' innings last night while our offense decided it was too far past their bedtime and fell asleep. The 'pen has looked like hot garbage plenty of times this year, Ohman especially, but last night wasn't one of those times. This one is all on our lack of offense with prime scoring chances yet again.
  14. Chokes? He looked pretty good to me, and would have been just fine through 2 full innings if Barrett learns how to hold onto a freakin' baseball.
  15. I'm going to this game and it's the first time I've been able to see Hill live...let's see some raw ownage, Rich!
  16. Thank you, Carlos. Thank you.
  17. Z, please, PLEASE buckle down and realize that you need go at least 7 full innings. PLEASE.
  18. Nope. He had it clean. Looked like Renteria even overslid the bag anyway. He was out, plus he delivered an obvious intentional blow to the FACE of Fontenot -- who had nothing to do with any of this. The umps raped us out of this series, it's very simple. They quite simply stole 1, maybe 2 games from us. I want to know which hotel Wolf and Renteria shacked up at after the damn game. The phots I've seen making it look like he's chopping Fontenot's neck, which, to me, makes it even worse and the chance of injuring a guy WHO HAD NOTHING DO WITH ANYTHING that much worse.
  19. Jeez, Dempster...what the funk was all of THAT?!?
  20. Howry getting back to being himself his last few appearances. Good to see.
  21. Man, Derrek is in some kind of funk. He just seems to watch all of the perfect pitches he usually nails sail by him for a strike.
  22. IF YOU WERE WAITING FOR IT, WHY DIDN'T YOU WARN BOTH TEAMS BEFORE THE GAME?!?
  23. These dirty, dirty 'effs. I say beat the hell out of them.
