  1. Peavy, Zambrano, Harden, Lilly, Me would be the best rotation ever. The Cubs have the positions the Padres need to fill. But I question if the talent the Cubs likely have available is good enough. They are looking for a CF, Middle IF, Catcher, and pitching (starting or relief). I would trade Pie, Cedeno, Castillo, Marshall, and Ceda for Peavy (and another player/prospect). But none of those players project to be stars. You'd think for a star like Peavy, SD would at least want a star quality prospect, which the Cubs don't have. Which brings us to the logical conclusion that the Padres won't trade Peavy in the offseason, because they don't have to.
  2. That's my problem, I don't think Hendry has learned to not give out poor contracts to relievers. I think this might just be posturing. What if it's K-rod? Then it would probably be an even poorer contract. No probably about it. He's be rivaling Soriano for worst contract on the team.
  3. Given his willingness to use his NTC and his apparent desire to stay out west, he's not very realistic at all.
  4. What about SS? What about CF when Edmonds goes down or if he doesn't perform as his bat speed keeps decreasing? How are you going to move Soriano? How is Soriano hurting this team?
  5. Ridiculous. Dempster will almost certainly regress from his 2008 numbers, but to declare he'll be another Marquis is a pretty bold and, frankly, absurd statement. It's not like his 2008 was stretched out due to fluke or luck wih him being saved by the defense and such...he kept his walks and home runs way down. His overall numbers over the season are, by and large, excellent. Marquis never had a season like this. The gulf between what you can expect from Marquis and what Dempster did in 2008 is huge.
  6. Why in God's name would Reed Johnson's production be tolerable for a corner OFer?
  7. Has Brenly invented a time machine to bring 2001-era Schilling and Randy Johnson with him? No? Oh, OK. Good luck with that.
  8. Well, it's not like there's anything better to do in Nebraska. Pretty much that or going on a murder spree with your underaged girlfriend.
  9. This is a pretty kickass series. Go Sawx!
  10. Marshall, Hill, Fontenot, and Pie anyone? Take out Fontenot and put in Theriot. San Diego wants to experiment with speed. Maybe even add a bullpen arm of some sort and get Greene added to the deal. As much as we realize that Theriot doesn't provide all that much value, other teams see a guy who hit second most of the year on a team that led the league in runs scored with a decent batting average and OBP. Between the injuries and low BA, San Diego is ready to move on with Greene. If we're going to include Theriot, I'd prefer to try to sign Furcal or Renteria than use Greene. Agreed, but a lot of this is based on it sounding like the Padres are trying to include Greene in whatever deal they do for Peavy.
  11. Yeah, but you once again spouted a line like this: The broad "me vs. the entire board" generalizations that are almost totally made up just set up everything you're gonna say to be ridiculous.
  12. I was worried. badnews' last few posts had been perfectly rational without any insane, rambling hyperbole. Fortunately, all is well once more. Some people just think Peavy is good. Just because one person said he thinks that Peavy is better than Santana doesn't mean that everyone who wants Peavy pitching for the Cubs thinks that he's better than Santana...but why let rational thinking get in the way of of anything?
  13. I'd move Soto as the centerpiece of a package for Peavy and Greene. It'll never happen, but I'd do it.
  14. Yep. Greatest game ever devised by the mind of man. The fact that there is no clock is perhaps the most wonderful aspect of the game. Makes comebacks like these possible. Indeed. Yeah, it's not my team, but damn, this is why I love this sport more than any other. This was an amazing game to watch.
  15. This is like Captain Ron and everything sucks ass and only I am not sucking ass.
  16. Ech. Peavy to the Cardinals makes me nervous.
  17. This is like Junior and I'm Arnold and you're all my freak baby of science and I have to birth you through my wang.
  18. It is my duty to brutalize that booty. Seriously, if the standards are WS or bust, then what's the discussion gonna be?
  19. Ridiculous. Nobody is doing anything of the sort.
  20. So then if it's so B&W, why make such conflicting and broad questions? This poll = fail.
  21. I voted "yes" because taking the season as a whole, yes, I think it was "successful." I haven't enjoyed another season in my 25 years as a fan than I did the 2008 season. Yeah, the ending was a pretty harsh buzzkill, but basically by that logic, no team except the one that wins the WS has a "successful" season. And it makes zero sense to ask one question in the poll and then make your first post ask something completely different.
